Hi i have a terrible pain in my left leg and it feels and looks like the vein at the back of my knee gets swollen and and it goes all the way up and it hurts a lot,it feels like the blood doesnt move, this is been going on for about 4 weeks but is worse and when im in bed its a very bad,can you please tell me what this is. the PT says its because there is still fluid, but he wants to send me back to my ortho/surgeon due to the fact that the fluid build up should not be there. My whole knee IS NOT swollen, just that lump where the fluid is. I did have a patella release 20yrs ago on that exact same spot my fluid is building up. Again,the fluid build up is not where the surgery holes were done.

Generally the bursa sac are removed if there is infection not getting controlled. In such a case removal of bursa sac may help. In other cases either a reactive or infective accumulation of fluid continues. Cortisone injections help control non infective effusion. On and off swelling of the knee can also be due to prepetallar bursitis. You should go back to your surgeon for further advice. Take care!

then just today we got back and realized my knee is a bit swollen..not alot but to make it uncomfortable and uneasy to walk..i am healthy and had not had any injuries prior to the trip..and iv never experienced this on any other trips..

After knee replacement surgery done in June 2010 and is still swollen and painful. I cannot walk properly with out pain as was promised.

So, try to be patient for a couple of days, HOWEVER, if you continue to notice a decline in your mobility or increase in pain levels, especially if you start running a fever or your knee is red, swollen and warm - IMMEDIATELY get in touch wtih your doctor or head to the ER. Are your knees swollen? Do they feel like they are grinding when you are walking? Do you have a hard time with stairs? I would see your Dr and see what they think. There is a certain condition called Patella Femoral Syndrome. Its where the patella and femoral have no cartilage and they are grinding against each other.

Hi again everyone, my leg is killing me, its really swollen today, and i have radiating pain from my ankles to my hip. My pain has definitely got worse since i had surgery, not in my knee but everywhere else. I just hate playing the waiting game, because thats what my doctor makes me do, and im not able to take pain meds, so i have to deal with it everyday. It's very irratating, and it's hard to stay positive and happy when all im able to do everyday is sit in my bed and watch tv.

Hello. My 28lb toddler was standing over me on the floor. She then jumped and her knee went right onto the side of my head. Could this cause any type of internal injury? It has been 3 days since the occurrence. I do have a slight headache. No other symtoms.

My 2 year old daughter sits like this too. I asked her doctor about it and he said it was fine since they're bodies are so "rubbery" when they're little. I have also tried to get her to sit in different positions but she always ends up back in that same position. After mentioning it to my husband he showed me that he can still sit like that if he wants. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Eventually they'll grow out of it and sit in different positions.

There is nothing much that can be done at home by yourself to relieve the discomfort except avoiding excessive movement around the joint and OTC NSAIDS to relieve the pain. If the knee appears to be inflamed and swollen, ice packs may prove to be helpful as well. Hope this is useful. Take care!

I can hardly bend my knee; the most I can bend is like 90 degrees, after that, I feel a bad pull in my quadriceps muscles. My quadriceps muscles have swollen just above my knee cap. There is no color or pain. Since then, I have had difficulty bearing weight on that (right) knee and cannot fully flex or contract that joint at all. I had pain in the right calve muscle below the knee and the lower calve due to excessive streching about 3 weeks ago. Moreover, yesterday my doctor injected depo-medrol on my infected joint. And today my knee is extremely swollen and stiff, more than ever. I can barely bend my knee to 90 degree. My question, Is this swelling and stiffness normal after being injected with depo-medrol ? Or is this a side-effect ?
