Swollen eye from allergy

Common Questions and Answers about Swollen eye from allergy

swollen

Avatar n tn I wake up in the morning with the area around my left eye very swollen. And my eye is slightly "teary". I've been told by and eye doctor that I have allergy eyes, but I've tried allergy meds. and they do not seem to help. And why is it only my left eye? The swelling goes down a little during the day, but settles in a bag and my eye. It looks awful.
Avatar m tn If you are not feverish and in pain you could try cold compresses and oral antihistamines and maybe some allergy eye drops like Zaditor or Visine allergy eye formula.
Avatar f tn Over the counter in USA you can use Zaditor or Alway allergy eye drops, can also use cold packs or cold compresses. See a dermatologist.
Avatar n tn However, my biggest problem now is having had very puffy eyes for the last week, no redness or itchiness, just swollen eyelids. I have seen 2 doctors, who have given me eye drops and Loratadine and then Fexofenadine, but nothing is helping. I'm getting to the end of my tether, please help!
Avatar f tn I also visited an opthalmologist who indicated that I have 20/20 vision and no issues behind my eye but that my face is assymetrical (which he said may be normal for me as it is for most) but that my swollen eye appears slightly set back from the other eye (I never noticed this nor has anyone else who knows me). My medical doctor says this isn't so. Would this type of issue cause a swollen eyelid?
Avatar f tn I can't make a diagnosis from that description. If it is the eye that is swollen (over the white part) the problem is often "chemosis) and the most common cause is allergy. If its eyelids again the most common cause is allergy. Suggest you go in to your surgeon for an exam and Dx.
Avatar n tn Hi, My 18 month old son when was at home after having the food started itching both eyes. After few minute we saw that both his eye lids are swollen. There is no red-eye, but eye lid is swollen. It is bit itchy, but my son is playful and not crying. The food he had was the banana yogut, which he does have it. We did go out to park yesterday evening, but he got this eye swelling only today evening. Can you please guide me what this could be related to and can we take some eye drops ?
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, swollen eye indicates allergic conjunctivitis or angioedema. You have a positive history of allergy. This can be complicated by bacterial or viral infection. Also swollen eyelids or face, esp. in early morning, are sign of kidney disorder. The renal disease (kidney) like nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, and renal failure can cause such symptoms. You need to undergo urine analysis, renal function tests and radio imaging of the kidneys to rule out the cause.
Avatar f tn In the meantime, get some cooled boiled water and clean each eye using some cotton wool, wipe from the middle to the outside of the face. Do not use the same cotton wool for the other eye. Pat dry gently.
Avatar n tn They also get really itchy, but i use allergy eye drops to help that. However, my eyes still continue to get swollen and dry. I am currently taking Allegra-D and Singulair for my allergies. My doctor had prescribed me to Pata-a-Day Eye Drops as well, but they became too expensive and weren't working very well, so i switch to an over the counter brand. My medicine is obviously not working very great either. Does anyone know of an effective treatment that will help me with this? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had a stubborn eyelid swelling in one eye for this long due to allergy? I do have crusting in my eye in the morning (very slight) but no discharge (only watery glob on my eye that can be blinked away and slight blurriness on that eye). thanks so much for your help.
1008856 tn?1250634650 ve had this problem frequently for the past two-three months since I moved back to southern California from northern California which I lived for three years. Before this I was still living in southern CA and also in Colorado. My left lower eyelid would get swollen as if there was a build up of fluid, so I do the a hot and cold compress to see which one helps, and also take Benadryl. After a day or so it seems to go away. Now it is on my upper eyelids only, one eye at a time.
Avatar f tn I have tried so many eyes products for dry eye, allergy eye, etc….. I’ve been to 3 different opthalmologist for help and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Maybe a biopsy of the swollen area. I still have to take an allergy test. Hopefully its an allergy and I can come to a closer with this problem. If I find out anything else I will post it.
Avatar f tn My left eye is very swollen and it appears to be a blocked tear duck, However I have been to see two Opthamologist, eye doctor, and Allergy doctor, and General Medicine doctor. No one has been able to figure this one out. It is at its worse i the Morning when I wake up. The eye lid is full of fluid, which looks like my tears . It drains slowly throughout the day and fills back up over night. I've taken antibiotics, Steroid drops, ointments . Nothing has worked.
790967 tn?1432764810 about 9 years ago i was running around my house and both my eyes swelled shut it had never done it before but for some reason now every time i run even from my house to my driveway it'll swell it starts with a small lump under my eye them my nose seems to clog up and feel very stuffed and not a minute after i get the small bump both my eyes swell and stay swollen for two days no longer i dont know whats causing it, ive been to the allergist they first told me it was a milk allergy but milk d
Avatar n tn As the day goes by, the swollen and the headache goes away. Yesterday, I had a swollen eye after taken Motrin, and it got me to think if that can really be the cause of my swollen.
Avatar f tn Not knowing what it was, I touched it and it stuck to my finger and came out. A few mornings after that I woke up to find the plug from the left eye on my cheek along with some dried up mucus type stuff. That was the morning of my eye doctor appointment. He confirmed that the plugs were no longer in and prescribed an eye drop to take care of it. I returned to Florida until the Dec of 2005 when the problem had not gone away and he prescribed something else.
Avatar f tn I worn contacts sometimes, but when my vision got bad again I stopped using contacts. Since this summer, I noticed my left eye lid have been swollen. I have been told by my second doctor that that was because of allergies. She prescribed me anti-allergy drops but it didn't help. She also advised me warm presses, and it didn't help. However, now I switched back to the first doctor, she said that the swollen eye was due to the damage on my cornea.
Avatar n tn I have had swollen eye lids, top and bottom for 2 weeks. No discharge or pain, but my eyes are red. Dr. prescribed steroids and zpac for 5 days, but the symptoms are the same. I am not experiencing any allergy problem right now.
Avatar n tn I went to numerous eye doctors they all prescribed me eye drops from allergy, but the swelling never went away. Sometimes I don't feel like it is swollen, although it is, and sometimes I feel pressure on my eye. There is no bumps and my eye is not red. Is there anytihng you can suggest?
Avatar n tn ve gone to an NHS Doctor who suggested it could be allergies as the inside of my eye was not swollen or red nor was I having any puss (However the eyelid doesn't itch at all). He subscribed some allergy medicine which I've been taking; but honestly I think if anything it's just getting worse! I'm not sure it could be an allergy as it is only one eyelid and specifically the upper.
Avatar m tn These are problems that need attended to by a real eye exam.
954983 tn?1246464647 09 my under eye became swollen like a balloon and my eyelids, top and bottom were swollen also. I went back to my Ophthamologist and gave me a good examination and many tests and said it was eye allergies and had nothing to do with the plugs. This continued on and off for about 4 months and he kept reassuring me it was allergies along with my dry eyes.
Avatar f tn I have an eye allergy that started several years ago, after I had pneumonia. My heating/air system at home and in the car irritates my eyes. When the air blows in my face it irritates the veins/blood vessel around my eyes, they get puff and swollen that causes the pressure in my eyes to go up. I'm using four different eye drops provided by my doctor. I only have close-up vision in my left eye and I'm worried that I may soon lose site in my right eye.
Avatar n tn I woke up with my right eye swollen on 12/1 right under my eye. It has stayed swollen ever since. Sunday it was swollen shut but since then it just has stayed swollen just underneath my eye. It has become dry and itchy. No redness of the eye. I have not changed a thing. I have taken allergy meds, Benadryl, and Pepcid. Nothing seems to be touching it. At this point its just a nuisance. Any suggestions? Do i need to get to a doctor?
Avatar f tn Thank you both so much! I have been using the eye wash kit, zyrtec and also allergy eye drops - the combination has finally started to kick in and make a difference today. I didn't even think about the dermatologist - if this doesn't clear up completely within a few more days I will definitely call for an appointment. I appreciate your advice!
