Common Questions and Answers about Surgical operation on hysterectomy

operation

Avatar n tn by definition a hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus with or without the cervix, a seperate operation is called a bilater salphigo Ooperectomy which is the removal of the fallopian tubes and ovaries, they are sometimes removed during a hysterectomy but not technically a part of a hysterectomy. Hyster means uterus in medicial terms.
Avatar n tn I am a 43 year old white female and had a Surgical hysterectomy on Sept 5. I am dying of the night sweats to the point I have 5 fans going at all times the AC/ and thank GOD we have been having a cold spell here in Nashville so I have had the window open. I was wondering if anyone has done any of the hormone replacement that is natural? I am going crazy and need help.
Avatar m tn For one, you were not told the truth about ovarian function after hysterectomy. There is a good chance (about 40%) that the ovaries will fail after hysterectomy due to the loss of blood flow. But even women who appear to have "normal" ovarian function after hysterectomy suffer with they same symptoms as you. It is a myth that the uterus is disposable after childbearing. It has hormonal, anatomical, skeletal, and sexual functions.
Avatar f tn I am more worried about my depression than the actual operation. This is my choice to have the operation rather then just trying another birth control method. i have ovary cysts and endemetriosis. Should i rethink my decision to go ahead with the operation?
914308 tn?1243248921 Hi, I am only 17 years old and I was recently diagnosed with dermoid ovarian cyst. I am really confused. It is about 16 cm above my left ovary and all the 4 doctors that examined my case says it's probably malignant and I have to undergo a surgical operation. They will have to remove my left ovary and fallopian tube but if during the operation it ruptured then both ovaries must be removed. Are there any cases the same with mine?
Avatar f tn I understand your concern regarding this situation, but the best person to ask regarding this would be the person who will be operating on you. Any operation carries its own risk. May it be the risk of aggravating the pain or condition or developing complications such as infection of heart and lung problems. These risks can be present even at the hands of the most experienced surgeons. However, this risk should be balanced with the potential benefits that you could get from the operation.
Avatar f tn But this would be preferable to a hysterectomy that causes a whole new set of problems plus is major surgery with risks for surgical complications (on top of the nasty after effects). This article is helpful in understanding the after effects of hysterectomy. Here's one article about pessaries; there are some other good ones out there - https://familydoctor.org/vaginal-pessary/. Best of luck and please post back as to progress.
Avatar f tn I had the first one done in April as part of general health check, although then I was going to have hysterectomy as planned surgical procedure for known large adenomyoma. Because of rising CA 125, I had an urgent CT abdomen and pelvis. It showed same large uterine mass most likely an adenomyoma ( 8-9 cms in diameter) and two small ovarian cysts ( 2 cms in diameter) on the right side, I was on day 4 of my cycle. these cysts were not present on transvaginal scan 2 months earlier.
1472677 tn?1330175915 It has been a year since my TOTAL hysterectomy. I have seen four OBGYN specialist's since then. Not one has given me any answers about after care. I am on Estrogen (low dose). I am having stoach pain, my skin is wrinkly, vaginal dryness, cracked nails, a lot of back pain, night sweats, I am pale all the time, sex forget it for the pain is unbearable, urin sprays all over, depression, mood swings and a lot more....
Avatar f tn I have been recently diagnosed with having a substantial size fibroid in my uterus and a 10cm mass on my right ovary. It is pretty painful I'm going to see gyny this week what can I expect to happen. Will I need an operation.? Really unsure what to expect!!
Avatar f tn I am scheduled to have my ovarian cyst/tumor removed on 3/22. My gyn/onc who is wonderful. He is the Senior gyn/onc at University Hospital and basically teaches all the other gyns how to be a gyn/oncs. He is 99% sure it is a boarderline or LMP. He has given me all my options. 1st if it is completely benign a laparotomy to remove it and a D&C to take care of endometriosis and polyp that I have in the uterus. If it is borderline like he expects, I have more options.
1464814 tn?1286192538 Hello, i am new and i am so scared. I had a total hysterectomy in 1997 at the age of 26 for Endometriosis, i had both ovaries removed and was only taking HRT for approx 12 months post operation because of problems with the patches causing me a rash. Last year i started to get some odd symptoms. I had a vague feeling of being unwell, hard to explain just would feel really weird.
418466 tn?1207114132 Do NOT attempt to remove this drain by yourself. I can understand another vet wanting the surgical report, but it shouldn't stop them from treating your dog. That doesn't sound right to me at all. If you're having problems finding a competent vet, you could try starting with your local SPCA or Humane Society. Explain the situation to them and I'm sure they'll come up with a vet who will happily get this thing safely out of your dog's ear.
Avatar m tn In May, 2010, my wife was recommended for a hysterectomy/rectocele mesh procedure. She really felt that she didn't need the hysterectomy, but continued under doctor's advice. The morning of the operation, while being administered IV injections, she was informed by a nurse that her doctor was going to switch from the normal (?) mesh to a porcine mesh. Approx. Sep/Oct 2010 timeframe, my wife started having pain and complications.

Avatar m tn She had a complete hysterectomy then with no chemo. Unfortunately, it recurred in 2006 in the peritoneum, putting her in the stage 4 category. She did a surgical debulking with a general oncological surgeon. Since then, she was on chemo treatments once every 2 weeks or sometimes every week. CA125 came down from a couple thousand to 20. Somehow, in 2006, it creeped back up and she did a second surgery, followed by chemo. Once in awhile she would skip one or two chemos.
Avatar f tn Doctor gave three options - (1) to cut off blood supply to fibroid / (2) remove only the fibroid / (3) remove the entire uterus. Doctor recommended to do the operation laparoscopically. My wife wanted to go for option (3) so that she will not have any more worries about fibroids in future. My wife also has one gall bladder stone measuring 15 x 14mm. Doctor suggested that as long as this is not giving any problems - leave it alone.
Avatar f tn Do you have to get a PAP smear after a total hysterectomy to include ovaries? I’ve been on divigel and the doctors office will not refill my prescription with out a PAP smear.

Avatar m tn m now 53, in 2005 I had a TCRE (transcervical resection of the endometrium) because my periods were so heavy TCRE is a procedure in which the lining of the uterus is removed (also called resected or ablated) with a wire loop, roller ball or laser. The choice of instrument depends on the preference of the surgeon. The operation is performed using a hysteroscope, an instrument like a telescope which allows the surgeon to see the inside of the uterus.
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
1086111 tn?1256514891 My doctor has me coming back November 19 and he wants to a hysterectomy Laparscopic hysterectomy but i don't know if he is going to do a complete hysterectomy or not that is why i go back to him on the November the 19 and he will let me know if he is going to do a full hysterectomy or a partial hysterectomy.
