Avatar m tn Bow legs or genu varum can be corrected in adults by surgical remodeling. The exact type of surgical technique would depend on the severity and the exact location of the defect. Temporarily orthotic devices may be used to provide symptomatic relief, though a permanent cure may require a surgery in adults. It would be best to consult an orthopedician for a detailed review and appropriate management.

Avatar m tn I work on a surgical unit at a hospital and trust me, we deal with people who are terrified every single day. You are not alone in your fear of hospitals or surgery. I often have people ask me how I can be so brave to work there! It makes me laugh. We all have things that scare us. ME? I haven't a clue on Gods green earth how anybody can work in the snake house at the zoo!!!! But, back to you.

418466 tn?1207114132 Do NOT attempt to remove this drain by yourself. I can understand another vet wanting the surgical report, but it shouldn't stop them from treating your dog. That doesn't sound right to me at all. If you're having problems finding a competent vet, you could try starting with your local SPCA or Humane Society. Explain the situation to them and I'm sure they'll come up with a vet who will happily get this thing safely out of your dog's ear.

When i ask questions about the operation he seems to get offended and want tell me specifics about the operation. He will not tell the about the placement of the scar or the method he will use. This is at a teaching hospital (UVA medical center in Charlottesville VA) that is very respcetable.
4656347 tn?1357634219 On 21 Nov 2012 he again undergone major operation to remove the tumour and I was told 70% of the tumour being removed mainly the liquid part. After the major operation my son suffer back the symptom before his first operation, that he was very sleepy and confused, high sodium and low potassium. My son then pass away on 20 Dec 2012. Seems that the first operation is good. Doctors did the best of their effort but please consider my opinion.
Avatar m tn If his nerve was nicked or hit during the surgery or the tumor was tightly wrapped, the surgical report may note it - did you get a copy of the pathology report and the surgical report from the hospital? I would do so. I would get him a neuro-optho if he does not have one. I am not optimistic about his chances for his eyesight at this point - the optic nerve is a very sensitive nerve and not a very forgiving one.
Avatar f tn I was also 17 when I had my left ovary and tube removed due to a 14cm cyst, I had this removed via a cut from hip to hip so not sure which the correct name for that operation is, but I was in hospital for 2 nights and was made to get up and walk 8 hr after the operation (yes was very painful) I was on morphine and pain killers during my stay in hospital and then went onto co-codomol painkillers for 4 weeks after my operation, it was very painful and I wpuldnt wish it on anybody but after the ini
Avatar m tn Every surgical operation has its risks depending on your age or if you have other comorbid conditions (hypertension, diabetes, stroke, etc). Complications include difficulty of breathing, heart problems, kidney problems during or after the operation, though these can be minimized with proper pre-operation evaluation (usually by an internist, or cardiologist).

905951 tn?1246866315 With the discrepancies in the FNA and surgical specimens -- would have the surgical specimen sent for second opinion. Johns Hopkins and U Penn both do a nice job with these.
1060769 tn?1254977492 Postponing the operation as long as reasonably possible is a good thing. You avoid unnecessary surgical risks by doing that. A few people actually die during heart surgery. It's not like having your tonsils out. It's a lot more major than that. It's not something to jump into, just to "get it over with." Also, if you can postpone your operation, you may be able to take advantage of advanced surgical technology later on.
Avatar n tn If the percentage is less than 29%, a surgical operation is at a high risk and a surgeon may not recommend an operation as the risk may exceed the benefit. Or the estimated dimensions of the heart may be insignificant, and your mom is relatively good health and the risk is minimal.
Avatar f tn org/posts/show/523166 As far as I can remember, after the operation I was moved to a recovery room for about an hour and then back to my hospital bedroom. Of course if your operation has encountered any problems then your surgeon may decide to place you for a spell in ICU. For the first few days I was incontinent because the epidural pain relief meant that I had no feelings in my bowels and the various fluids just "leaked out".

Two doctors who examend me agreed that the symptoms I had were not related to the Clip. I do suffer from diverticulitys and i am confused. My pain has not settled in the last 3 weeks and I do not have a diverticulitys attack. Can anybody please tell me, what are the symptoms of having a clip in your pelvis?
Avatar f tn I had the first one done in April as part of general health check, although then I was going to have hysterectomy as planned surgical procedure for known large adenomyoma. Because of rising CA 125, I had an urgent CT abdomen and pelvis. It showed same large uterine mass most likely an adenomyoma ( 8-9 cms in diameter) and two small ovarian cysts ( 2 cms in diameter) on the right side, I was on day 4 of my cycle. these cysts were not present on transvaginal scan 2 months earlier.
Avatar f tn my father has congestive heart failure- is in the hospital and they are only treating him with Lasix- stating that it is Lasix or major surgery- those are the only 2 options. This does npot sound right to me. Please help. My father iks 93. Is on lipitor, blood pressure in the normal range- but can be high at times, but not consistently, no other medical conditions. Avatar f tn Therefore, surgical intervention is essential to remove the large cyst and if permanent damage needs to be avoided. Craniotomy, needle aspiration and cerebral shunts are common surgical treatment that may help. But, surgical modalities may have some complications depending upon size of cyst. Before opting for surgical procedures, you should evaluate both the pros and cons with the help of a neurosurgeon. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I understand how to get a good many of the tradition questions about surgery answered (why surgery, what are the alternatives, what are the risks, etc.) and I've read a lot about the surgery and feel well-informed. But here's the kicker: I'm a teacher, so I understand the need for training, but unfortunately I've got a strong NIMBY attitude about my surgery as far as surgical residents go -- and the surgery will be at a big teaching hospital (in Ohio, yep).
Avatar f tn A nerve block is used during the operation which means that immediately after the operation the shoulder and arm may feel numb. This may last a few hours. After this the shoulder may well be sore and you will be given pain killers to help this whilst in hospital. These can be continued after you are discharged home. Ice packs may also help reduce pain. Wrap frozen peas or crushed ice in a damp, cold cloth and place on the shoulder for up to 15 minutes.
