I recently was told by my vet that my 2 month old kitten has mega esphagus and mega colon. He pretty much said it would be really hard for this kitten to survive. She eats soft food, drinks water,tries to eat hard food, and plays. She only weighs 1.3 pounds. Is it possilble for her to live a happy life??????????????

cat grass is fiber and some is good however with mega colon too much fiber will cause the colon to increase in size esp. if not emptying the bowel at least once a day. IMO a moderate amount won't cause more problems.

My 9 yr old boy has been diagnosed with mega colon and mega bowel and has had chronic constipation and been on laxitives since birth. he's not getting any better, suffers with over overflow most days, now gets heartburn most days as well. Every time we go hospital for appointment just change his meds to a higher dose. he is on Sodium Picosulphate 10 ml daily, 4 Movicol daily, 4 benefibre daily. At one stage was on 12 sachets of movicol.
He has a severe iron deficiency else well. He went for a colonoscopy where he has been diagnosed with a mega colon. The pediatric surgen (who only saw the x-rays) and ignored the colonoscopy report indicated that there is nothing wrong with my baby and only need 'pedicol'. I think it depends on the type of enema. Using enemas frequently for constipation can cause your rectum to "forget" how to have a bowel movement naturally. Using enemas for "colon cleansing", I believe is not good, because your colon doesn't need any cleansing, it does this itself.
Before I adopted her, she had surgery to remove her colon due to a serious problem with mega colon. I got her several months after the surgery, but now she seems very happy, has no problem using the litter box, and has a healthy appetite. She does use the litter box often and her stools are runny, which is to be expected if she has no colon. My only real issue is that her stools smell absolutely terrible. Does anybody have any recommendations for food that my cut back on the smell?
I had, just died today, a 13 years old cat that had been diagnosed with mega colon about 7 months ago. Afterbtaking the prescribed meds witch lasted about 3 months i stopped and she seemed qhuite normal. She was going to the bathroom regularly and eating and drinking fine, 2 days ago she strted acting lethargic and not eating, I took her to the vet this mornong and they took x rays and said that she was impacted and needed to be cleaned out.

Hello I am a person who has suffered for at least 3 - 4 years with diverticulitis with on set of problems relating to my being extremely bloating, constipated you name it, and the PAIN unbearable at times. Yet I have tried everything Fiber in my diet, changing my eating habits, eating smaller amounts so I wouldn't feel as bloated or constipated.
What can be done?
