612876 tn?1355514495 The company also seems to be primed to take their patent for this needleless injection delivery system and use it with other medications as well. I wonder what other meds will benefit from being able to be delivered quickly and easily by patients themselves this way ... ??
Avatar f tn When I gave an injection through the port that is needleless, the syringe slipped and rubbed against my finger. It didn't make a scratch or cut and I wasn't bleeding. If it was a scratch I couldn't see, if there was blood on the syringe is that a risk? The syringe had the medicine in it to push through the saline lock. I didn't see any blood. Would a microscopic spot of blood be a risk?
621465 tn?1221537588 She prescribe me Sumatriptan injection ...The injection work very well ..she told me that my body immune system is not strong enough cope with the medicine...
Avatar n tn The more drastic option for people who get really bad migraines that do not respond to other treatments is sumatriptan in an injection form... your doctor will have to teach you how to inject yourself, but, if it works, it's worth it. Sumatriptan really does NOT work as a tablet, so... if you are taking a tablet form of it, you NEED to get onto another triptan. Talk to your doctor. You could also try taking the following supplements too...
1102283 tn?1257817472 But, due to cost constraints, I would suggest getting a prescription for the cheapest generic triptan which is called Sumatriptan tablets. The Sumatriptan tablets work well for many people, so if they work well for you then that would be excellent and you can just stick to them as your only prescription. Although, due to the extremely low bioavailability of Sumatriptan tablets, they do not always work well for everyone (although Sumatriptan is still the most prescribed triptan on the market).
Avatar f tn If you scratch your finger with a needleless syringe that is used to give meds through saline lock, is that a risk? Last question, just trying to get info. The needleless syringe slipped and went across pad of my finger but my finger wasn't bleeding, no cut I could see. I couldn't see any blood in the saline lock.
768044 tn?1294223436 So, he prescribed me Imitrex Injection (Sumatriptan Injection). I dropped off the prescription at the pharmacy after the appointment and they told me I could pick it up tomorrow morning. He said he also prescribed Imitrex Injection for his cluster headache patients too. I had a migraine tonight but it was a normal migraine and my zomig+naproxen+analgesic cream took care of it. So all in all today was a pretty good day.
Avatar f tn What type of headaches did the doctors say you had? This sounds like you might be suffering from "cluster headaches". Cluster headaches are the worst pain that exists pretty much... so, your description of being shot makes me think of that. Also, they are on one side of the head, and usually around the eye. So... the starting point of your headache sounds like it is in the right place for a cluster headache. Also, them waking you up in the night sounds like cluster headaches too.
Avatar f tn I was giving an iv push med through a saline lock. It's a needleless system. I wasn't wearing gloves because it was an urgent situation. Anyways, my hand slipped and the plastic syringe with the medication rubbed against my finger after I tried to attach it to the saline lock. I didn't cut my finger with syringe. There was no bleeding, but I did have some dry skin on my finger.
Avatar f tn I was giving a medication with a needleless syringe that I just opened. As I was trying to connect it to the saline lock(screw it on) the syrInge slipped and rubbed against my finger. It did not cut me. I was not bleeding. I didn't see any blood in the saline lock or on the syringe. If I did scratch myself that I couldn't see, is there a risk for HIV? Would I have to puncture the skin and cause bleeding?
Avatar f tn Cannot tolerate side effects. Sumatriptan injection quickly aborts but only allotted so much per month. Almost out of injections and has no pain relief. Neuro dropped her as patient and advised to find another neuro. He states cant do any thing more fr her. Been to ER. No help. Referred to neuro. Can't get in for 3 weeks. They feel no urgency. Also dr adv her she as penial cyst but not the reason for the pain....he states has had cyst since birth?? Cannot function.
Avatar f tn Hello Im sorry your husband is going through this. First how do you know its cluster headaches? Has your husband been to a headache specialist? Where do u live? Google headache specialist in your area. I had 2 cluster headache cycles in my life and they are no joke almost makes migraines a piece of cake. There is also a support site called ****************.com. There are alot of treatment for cluster's.
Avatar n tn - injection with sumatriptan (assuming you have not already taken the replex) - IV liquids (at least one liter i believe is the standard... but you can trust the hospital with giving you enough) - morphine. this will make you feel sick and disgusting. if they say they are giving you morphine, ask for hydromorphone... it is more expensive (if you live in america, much more expensive for you...
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me trazodone hydrochloride for anxiety, sumatriptan succinate for migraines, zopiclone for sleep, I've been told I can take the trazodone with zopiclone, but I have the new sumatriptan tablets, it says in the medical pamphlet that it is an MAO-A inhibitor and can't be taken with antidepressants/anxiety tablets. Would it be ok to take both the trazodone hydrochloride and the sumatriptin succinate together?
Avatar f tn It seems to help most of the time. I am also on sumatriptan for migraines. This was the first time I experienced this constant pain right behind my left eye. Thought the pain was from migraines so I took sumatriptan . So migraines are a throbbing pain on one side?
Avatar f tn 2 times in a day, only twice in a week). My mom has her own medical problems, which include migraines, so I'm switching to her neuro. I've been waiting about 6 months for my appointment, which is finally coming up in March. This guy is very popular, so getting your first appointment is a long wait. I used to feel like my migraines were controllable; they didn't own me, I owned them kind of thing...
Avatar m tn I wonder if there have been any SVR's on this forum from these new needleless trials? I know there are at least a couple different drug companies besides Gilead having these interferon free trials. Is it too soon for SVR's?
Avatar m tn but, they only prescribe the injection in very severe cases since no one wants to use an injection, but it is called a sumatriptan pen (because the needle sort of looks like a pen). The fastest that Zomig Nasal Spray can work is 10 minutes. The fastest that Zomig-ZMT (quick dissolve tablets, zomig calls them "Orally Disintegrating Tablets") can work is 30 minutes IF you use the 5mg orally disintegrating tablets tablets. the 2.
Avatar f tn I should also note that the very first time i started getting these facial pain attacks, my first doctor thought it was migraines and prescribed me Sumatriptan. And the sumatriptan did take the pain away. And I have learned that sumatriptan helps with cluster headaches. Is there any other trigeminal neuralgia sufferers out there, who suffer the same symptoms as I do? Help me please I am very confused about this condition!!! Sarah.
768044 tn?1294223436 ve tried triptan wise though is sumatriptan by injection? Imitrex makes an injection and there are also a few generic sumatriptan injections on the market now too I think. For some people if all the triptans don't work then sumatriptan by injection will work for them, even if sumatriptan by tablet and nasal spray was useless to them. Let me know if you've tried it before... if not, might be something to ask the neurologist about at your appointment...
Avatar f tn I have a migraine of some degree about 28 days of the month. I get Botox injections, am on Topomax, Sumatriptan, anti nausea meds...the whole works. My life was changed in an instant. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar incident, and recovered??? None of my doctors can say if I will ever be free of these migraines...
Avatar m tn The doctor gave me Imitrex needleless injections whiched worked, but since the migraines have gone away i have been dealing with a tension like headache, where concentration is hard at times its been really annoying. I have been to a ENT and had to do a MRI and nothing came back. I'm sure stress and aniexty from work and life play a part but it doesn't seem to be going away.
Avatar m tn t give you any other triptan at the hospital usually because sumatriptan by injection is pretty much the best triptan out there!! But, the names of some other triptans are maxalt, axert, zomig (like i take) ... etc. There are lots on the market so if imitrex doesn't work for you, there are more you can try that might work better for you. Are triptans safe? Well, for a normal healthy adult who isn't on any other medications YES they are VERY SAFE!!!
