Avatar f tn You are welcome! I think that some people don't respond to Imitrex. There are others that you can ask your doctor about if that doesn't work.
Avatar f tn I would like to know how long after taking Sumatriptan/Imitrex could any drowsiness side effect be considered to have worn off for when I get a migraine away from home and have no reasonable option to get home without driving myself. A few years ago, I got a migraine while some distance from home. I do not drive with a migraine.

341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
518798 tn?1295212279 My neurologist wants me to discontinue Imitrex due to the side effects associated with it at my age as well as the overuse. I don't know what to do anymore. Headaches are completely ruining my life. At least with the Imitrex I can somewhat function. Help!
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.

Avatar f tn Some people have success treating migraine with ibuprofin (such as advil). For me nothing works except sumatriptan (such as imitrex) for you need a prescription.
1103688 tn?1257894552 Can increase up to 600mg daily if no improvement at 400mg and no side-effects seen at 600mg. Side-effects at higher doses may include stomach cramps and diarrhea. Avatar f tn My daughter takes Co-Q10, an all natural supplement that has essentially no side effects. It can take some time to work, up to a couple of months. My daughter has had excellent results with it and now has few migraines. There's a family history here, too.
Avatar f tn Person who schedules procedures for the surgeon's office gave me the list and told me to check it with what I take. I specifically asked about the Imitrex, but she wasn't sure. Pharmacist said sumatriptan wasn't on list so it should be okay, but I'm still not sure. My mistake about naproxen. It is on the list as naprosyn. So I won't take any aleve. Thanks.
Avatar f tn What type of headaches did the doctors say you had? This sounds like you might be suffering from "cluster headaches". Cluster headaches are the worst pain that exists pretty much... so, your description of being shot makes me think of that. Also, they are on one side of the head, and usually around the eye. So... the starting point of your headache sounds like it is in the right place for a cluster headache. Also, them waking you up in the night sounds like cluster headaches too.
1102283 tn?1257817472 But, due to cost constraints, I would suggest getting a prescription for the cheapest generic triptan which is called Sumatriptan tablets. The Sumatriptan tablets work well for many people, so if they work well for you then that would be excellent and you can just stick to them as your only prescription. Although, due to the extremely low bioavailability of Sumatriptan tablets, they do not always work well for everyone (although Sumatriptan is still the most prescribed triptan on the market).
Avatar f tn One of the trial docs I saw told me to eat yogurt, for some reason he thought that would help. It could get better. Side effects come and go and what may be happening one week will not happen the next though you could have a new side effect.
768044 tn?1294223436 So, he prescribed me Imitrex Injection (Sumatriptan Injection). I dropped off the prescription at the pharmacy after the appointment and they told me I could pick it up tomorrow morning. He said he also prescribed Imitrex Injection for his cluster headache patients too. I had a migraine tonight but it was a normal migraine and my zomig+naproxen+analgesic cream took care of it. So all in all today was a pretty good day.
Avatar f tn s typical for me to have migraines on the back of my head rather than my left/right side of my head. Sumatriptan/Imitrex will work, but not how it used to. My migraines are worse than how it used to be, and I'm scared to take sumatriptan because 1) It may or may not work. 2) if it doesn't work, I am now 1 sumatriptan short. My gut feeling says something isn't right, but I don't know how to go about it. Yesterday morning I woke up around 4am with another migraine.
1056589 tn?1273747102 I am concerned about side effects. I have complcated migraines with aura(most of the time). My migraines mimic stroke(rolling one sided numbness, facial droop, speech issues etc).I also get elevated BP and heartrate when it's happening. So when I read that Imetrex can cause these symptom it concerned me. How would I be able to tell the difference? What are your experiences with it? Thanks ,Theresa....
Avatar f tn ( I did get some prescription sumatriptan(imitrex) to try, but i am usually scared of meds which have too many side effects listed. I will probably go the natural route of rest and trying to restrict the headache triggers. Thanks a bunch for your suggestions. Take care.
Avatar f tn I have migraines a few times a month (2-3) and take 50mg generic imitrex with an OTC NSAID. So after having two different doctors tell me that I need to get an "official diagnosis" of migraines from a neurologist, I finally saw a neuro. yesterday. To say that I am confused and angry is an understatement! For $250 he told me that I have mixed migraines/tension headaches and to reduce my stress and that my migraines would improve or lessen.
Avatar f tn I'm back with another question :-). DS is 11.5 yo, recently diagnosed. He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school.
Avatar f tn There are plenty of migraine headaches in the market today and treatment is usually trial and error for some. Imitrex or sumatriptan is used to treat migraine headaches, with or without aura, in adults. This has been effective to some headache sufferers. If it does not help with your symptoms, inform your doctor for a change of medication. Take care and do keep us posted.
