I was on methadone for a year and now I am on suboxone. I had a lot of terrible side effects from methadone. Weight gain, terrible damage on my teeth, ect... and I have only been on suboxone for about 4 months. My docor tells me that if you wean down slow enough, there should be little to no withdrawals. I haven't experienced it myself yet. But I know for me, suboxone saved my life. There are no miracle cures for addiction, everything has side effects. My opinion is that suboxone is safer.
Is there anything positive about the methadone treatment been on it for 40days now. It seems to help but i fear i will only have to withdrawl from that and i have only heard of suboxone was offered that too at my intake for methadone. I just fear the withdrawls i can not function at all and i have a wife and 2 kids to support can not afford to lose my job over this. Is there a miracle cure for this sickness.
Im not sure how long its been since your dose of suboxone, but it always took me about 1hr before I would feel its effects. I was on methadone before going to sub, tapered down from 140mgs-30mgs, then started at 8mgs/suboxone. Im not really sure how methadone compares to morphine milligram wise, but if it doesnt help then talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose. You cant expect to feel great, but it should hold off the w/d's and cravings.
wih shorter use suboxone is a little milder than methadone, but they honestly are both bad. I feel like methadone was a ebtter choice for me to get off opiates for good, but everyone is different and if suboxone works for you then stick with it. I was on sub for 8 months and it worked for a few but the cravigns started getting worse and worse and I eventually succumbed. I started a MMT program and feel much more prudctive and structured than being on suboxone.
I was told that suboxone would help my pain condition so I went off oxycontin (for other reasons at the time) and started sub. Let me tell you that it did not help an iota of my pain. Not one dag gone bit of it. I was at the highest dose too. I have neuropathic pain and I have heard that this kind of pain , ub is not good for. I have heard it does help some for pain and met a few ppl online that it did help. Why not just take long acting opiate medication if u are not an addict?
I want to be prepared if one of these days my doctor will give up on me! Does anyone on this forum know anything about Methadone Treatment and Suboxone Treatment? I have read a lot about Suboxone Treatment but I haven't found much on Methadone Treatment. I would really appreciate any advice!!! I can't even talk to my husband about this subject. He always tells me that I should just stop taking narcotics because he never would take them!
My daugther is an opiate addict who has used RX pills and herion. She has been taking suboxone as treatment but can not get into the MD for two weeks. She has only 4 days left of suboxone. She was able to get and appointment tomorrow at a methadone clinic. She wants to to take methadone for the two weeks before her addictionologist appointment. She doesnt want the clinic to know. I told her to be honest at the clinic so she doesn't have some type of reacton.
From what I understand the best pain relief that buprenorphine can provide comes from Buprenex which I believe only comes as injections. I can tell you that Ive gone thru both methadone and suboxone withdrawals and to me suboxone is no easier if not harder than methadone to get off. I tapered off of methadone very slowly from 80mgs to 2.5mgs and had some bad w/d's. Years later after getting myself wrapped up in opiates again, I started a suboxone treatment.
This last time I quit methadone I tapered down over about 7months to 30mgs then over to suboxone. I started at 8mgs which was enough to take away all withdrawals and cravings for the most part. I was on sub for 18wks, the last month of which I was under 1mg, last two wks was down to about .25mgs before I quit. The w/d's were fairly bad but looking back not nearly as bad as I had experienced in the past when coming off high dosages of methadone.
ihave bein on suboxone for 5 plus years now and wa originally told ny my doctr that it waafe way saferthan the methadone program for treating my opiate addiction I knoe people tat did the methadone program that are off noe but the suboxone that iwas origin told was not addictive seems much worse than the opiates I as being treated for in the first place??? I am at my whits end here what can ido ?
As far as how long. Wait at least 48 hours after your last dose of Methadone. If you take Suboxone sooner you will only be hurting yourself as you will get REALLY sick. (you may know that already) You have to be in stages of withdrawl from Methadone for Suboxone to work. You can make an appointment with a doctor who prescribes Suboxone now and he will let you know what you need to do. Thats what I did.
I've got spinal stenosis. An I'm in a lot of pain. I was on oxycontin when I was younger. Then switched to methadone. 8 years ago I switched to suboxone. I'm wanting to switch back to methadone because I'm in a lot of pain. An i can't afford to drive to the methadone clinic everyday.
