Avatar f tn Naloxone is opioid receptor blocker (antagonist). They are combined together to prevent inter-venous abuse of this medication. In the US, Suboxone has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of opiate drug addiction. However many individuals who start using it to treat their addiction, become addicted to the Suboxone itself. Suboxone has a high rate of illicit abuse.
733251 tn?1231698321 t help you find a doctor, but I can explain the Suboxone/Subutex question you asked. The naloxone in Suboxone is placed there only to discourage people from using it via the IV route. When you let a Suboxone tablet dissolve in your mouth, you're getting a dose of Bupe and a dose of naloxone. The Bupe is absorbed into your system but the naloxone is not. And, since it doesn't get into the blood stream very well through the stomach, it really has little to no effect unless you inject it.
Avatar m tn If someone take suboxone and they are not opiate dependent, then there is a much higher chance of an overdose. Suboxone is very strong, but is safer against abuse by addicts because of the ceiling effect - which is about at 32mg. You can't really take more and get a high from it - and it also has a lower chance of causing respiratory depression. elvis - you asked about how long one must wait after taking methadone to take suboxone.
Avatar n tn The oral medications come in various concentrations, so depending on the prescription you may or may not have a problem.
Avatar n tn the only difference with suboxone and subutex is that suboxone has a added ingredient that makes for a less potential of abuse, and overdose. suboxone is safer and a better choice i believe.
351846 tn?1273615544 I'm in the same situation as you. I can't remember off hand how long I've been prescribed suboxone but I know it's been at least 3 years. I've never heard anyone else express a fear of having to take this medication for the rest of my life. I've tried to taper down once & it was BAD! It seems the longer you are on it, the harder it is to get off it. Is that correct? I'm sorry to hear you are having similar issues.
Avatar m tn Actually, suboxone does halt both cravings and wd's from full opiate agonists. The reason why suboxone works so well is from several aspects. It has a strong agonistic capability which causes it to partially activate the Mu (Opiate) receptors. It is also suspected to activate Kappa receptors on a partial level as well. Another side is Buprenorphines high binding affinity on the Mu receptors...

Avatar f tn It is admirable that you want to get off of heroin, it is a relatively short acting opiate and you would have probably started feeling your withdrawals already if you did not take Suboxone. Now let me tel you about Suboxone. Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone. Avatar f tn I do want to caution you that Suboxone in also an opiate. Before I address that though, I wanted to also address the damage you are doing to your liver because of the amount of acetaminophen you ingest by taking both percocets and Coricidin. Just Something to think about. Now let me tel you about Suboxone. Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone.
Avatar f tn it would be pointless to use heroine on suboxone because the suboxone blocks the high.. many people Overdose this way as they keep taking more and more trying to achieve the high that the sub is blocking.. However crack is a different animal all together and I imagine suboxone has zero effect on crack. If she is an addict and you suspect she is using, then she probably is.
Avatar m tn As I understand it, Suboxone is recognized by the body in the same way opiates are. I have been told that if you take opiates while you are taking sub., you can die! (fatal respiratory arrest - you stop breathing basically). You should ask him point blank. If you still don't believe him; well, thats another issue all together. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn So, I've going to a methadone clinic for a year and a half now. I was on Suboxone for a year before that, but could no longer afford it. No insurance. Since rehab or private Dr.'s were out of the question for me, and I couldn't go cold turkey with 3 kids, I reluctantly went to a clinic for the 1st time. It has been working for me, I'm doing well. But, it's time to stop.
1429136 tn?1287209602 this is just some of what i get when researching bupe- Because of its ceiling effect and poor bioavailability, buprenorphine is safer in overdose than opioid full agonists. The maximal effects of buprenorphine appear to occur in the 16–32 mg dose range for sublingual tablets. Higher doses are unlikely to produce greater effects. "The ceiling effect is good in some ways. It makes Suboxone less likely abused and far less easy to O.D.
Avatar f tn The product will remain on the market, but new label information will be added about risks of accidental ingestion resulting in overdose and death in children younger than 10. Benzonatate was approved in 1958 for treatment of coughs in patients 10 and older. It is available in 100- and 200-mg dosage forms. Avatar n tn My son was addicted to methadone for about 5 years when he started a suboxone program with a doctor in Berkeley, CA, in September, 2007, when he was 25. Three months later he moved to Oregon, where we (his parents) lived, and started with a doctor in Grants Pass. He was taking 8 mg tablets, 2/day from then until May 08, when he began to taper, going to 1.5 a day, then to 1 and then 1/2 during June. In July he went back to 6 mg daily (3X2 mg) because he had trouble dropping down to 4.

Avatar m tn I am a 33 year old woman who is currently in a Suboxone program. Before that, I was in a Methadone program for 4 years, at a dose of 130 mgs per day. I started the Suboxone in February. In June, I tested positive for Methadone. The doctor sent out the urine to be retested at a lab, and it was still positive. He dismissed this, and did not kick me out of the program. Now, in November, I tested positive again. I have not had any Methadone since February.
Avatar f tn I was taken in by ambulance and had a million tests done and nothing came up as to why I had a seizure. Obviously I know it is from the Tramadol but no one else knows I am addicted. After having every test possible, the doctors wanted me to go on 1000mg Keppra. I chose not to because I knew it was from the Tramadol and am terrified of the Keppra side effects. Fast forward to a year and a half and I just had my 2nd seizure last Thursday night.
