Suboxone opiate addiction

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone opiate addiction

suboxone

Avatar f tn This drug can be taken as a pain reliever as well just like methadone can be taken for pain but is meant for drug addiction. Suboxone might be a better pain reliever than say Percocet, or Vicodin because it is extremely good with pain relief without getting you all high thus preventing addiction. So if you are on it for pain this doesn't at all classify you as a drug addict.
Avatar n tn They can be used to ease it but tapering off or cold turkey is the only way i believe, theres no just moving onto some other drug to help..Its just another opiate.. I would say try suboxone for a few days to get the tolerance down and taper off..no more opiates, even though suboxone is an opiate, it does have the blocker in it too so..Tell her to take it one day at a time and get off all pills in general ASAP!! GOODLUCK!!!
Avatar f tn Suboxne is Subutex with Naloxone added. Naloxone is a drug that precipitates withdrawl. If you are addicted to another opiate and you use Suboxone, you are subject to be in instant withdrawl instead of getting high. Regardless, it is evil stuff.
Avatar m tn i have a question about Suboxone. Forgive me if I sound dumb or stupid, but just looking for some information. Does Sub get a person "High" i've been taking it for my opiate addiction (4days now) of course started to taking this to minimize the W/D and cravings from the Hydro's but I never got a "high" from it.
Avatar f tn The active ingredient in Suboxone is buprenorphine, which is a highly potent synthetic opiate. Unlike typical opiate drugs of abuse, bupe is a partial opiate agonist, which simply means that the drug doesn't fully fit to the opiate receptors in your brain. There's enough of a fit for it to stop cravings and keep you from getting dope sick. Like any other narcotic, bupe will get you high, can be abused, and cause withdrawal symptoms if suddently discontinued.
Avatar n tn Now I successfully detox my patients from opiates (eg. morphine, Oxycontin) using regulated amounts of Suboxone and also detox my patients from Suboxone addiction when that drug has been misused. I have found that the optimal time to have someone on Suboxone is between 20 and 25 days, tapering down on the medication every few days. This makes the physical symptoms of detox very manageable, without causing the patient to become cross-addicted to Suboxone.
Avatar m tn So many young people die from opiate addiction-- it is truly an epidemic. I was in about as good a residential treatment as you will find, and I was there for over three months, followed by 6 years of aftercare-- and despite equally intensive treatment, many of my comrades-in-treatment have relapsed.
Avatar n tn suboxon is used to treat opiate addiction
Avatar m tn Suboxone is an opiate derivative. It won't show up on a drug test as an opiate. A week is very unrealistic. The shortest time I've heard someone take it and be successful is 3 months. There is a mental aspect of addiction as well. The withdrawal while on subs is non existant, the withdrawal from the subs itself is a lot less than the actual drug of choice. I have been taking suboxone (prescribed) for a very long time and I can go up to 5 days without feeling terrible.
Avatar m tn The claim that 'Suboxone is an opiate for an opiate' is heard at amateur discussion boards, but it is entirely inaccurate. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist with a ceiling effect, and is given at ultra-high levels i.e. far about the 'ceiling'-- the result is a direct reduction in craving that is not experienced with opiate agonists.
Avatar n tn are you possibly talking about Suboxone? If so, it is used for Opioid addiction. Used to treat addiction to narcotic medications. If I can be of any further assistance, please let me know.
Avatar n tn s not recommended to be taken during pregnancy. Subutex, which is buprenorphine (the opiate) without the naloxone (the opiate blocker) is given to pregnant women in place of the suboxone. You need to speak with your OB right away, to figure out what the plan will be. Good luck!

Avatar m tn When I first started suboxone really all it did was provide the relief from w/d's and I didnt notice any pleasurable effects. After about 4-6wks I couldnt hardly get out of bed before my sub dose hit me and I would get a rush of energy/slight body high. I can tell you first hand that it can become very addicting and w/d's vary from person to person. Suboxone is still a type of opiate so it should come as no surprise that it can be addictive.
Avatar f tn In the US this Suboxone has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of opiate drug addiction. However many individuals who start using it to treat their addiction, become addicted to Suboxone itself. Coming off of Suboxone can become a nightmare for those people who get hooked on it, because of its very long half life and its very high affinity to the opiate receptor, tapering down to micrograms can be significantly painful.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure if you can answer this or if I should ask a Dr. My daugther is an opiate addict who has used RX pills and herion. She has been taking suboxone as treatment but can not get into the MD for two weeks. She has only 4 days left of suboxone. She was able to get and appointment tomorrow at a methadone clinic. She wants to to take methadone for the two weeks before her addictionologist appointment. She doesnt want the clinic to know.
Avatar f tn However many individuals who start using it to treat their addiction, become addicted to the Suboxone itself. Suboxone has a high rate of illicit abuse. Subutex, the product containing buprenorphine alone with no naloxone, creates a greater risk of misuse, abuse and diversion and many physicians are uncomfortable prescribing it. I hope this was helpful.
786992 tn?1236487680 But I first became an opiate addict 9 years before Suboxone was available, and before Suboxone opiate addiction was maddening in the lack of treatment options; yes, sober recovery is a good thing, but it is VERY RARELY long-lasting. As they say in the 'business', anyone can 'hold his breath' through treatment, and even for a year... but maintaining a recovering lifestyle through decades of life's challenges is rare.
Avatar m tn Tramadol might help with withdrawls but it's not a narcotic soo I dunno man. But I was on about 10 10mg hydrocodone ,1 to 2 40 mg oxys, about 2-5 somas a day, mind it if I made more money at work that week( commission job) it was significantly more that that, with fentanyl suckers/ patches, the 100mcg, oxymorphone, roxys, ect. But I got on suboxone, and that helped with the withdrawls better than anything and it's not methadone.
Avatar f tn That is a difficult question with an answer that is-- you guessed it-- controversial! I talk about this at length on my Suboxone Talk Zone blog-- I mention it because I can't reproduce the discussion on the topic that has gone on there for months and months. I have helped and followed a number of patients as they tapered off Suboxone, after both short and long-term use.
