Suboxone long term use

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone long term use

suboxone

Avatar m tn m getting conflicting reports from Doctors and other (long term) Suboxone users of what to expect at the end. Any help from someone who has used Suboxone for a similar program would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all - Kev.
214255 tn?1205635636 My doc suggests that according to studies, long term use at a stable level, followed by long term taper has the lowest relapse rates. So with me he has me on the same dose as the beginning and we will start to taper 1mg per month for 16 months. The positive thing about doing it this way is that I have been able to work a strong NA/AA program and that likely will give me enough tools over time to handle the taper and emotional stuff by then.

Avatar m tn I know only a handful of people who have been on suboxone and are now off and dont know anyone who has been off for a long time -- like years post sub, but I worry that more and more people are going to find out the hard way the long term effects of long term sub use. Just my two cents. Love to all.
774679 tn?1235502124 i wish i knew what to tell you as far as a time line goes. my boyfriend just started taking suboxone for his long term heroin, oxy & vic abuse. i was kind of hoping that him going on subs wasn't trading one addiction for another but that's what it sounds like from what i have been reading.
Avatar f tn His parents think he just takes it at night to sleep but I know he takes more than that. I am scared obviously of the short-term effects but more-so the long term ones. I know there aren't many studies done on very high doses and I know he won't go to a doctor or even admit this to anyone else. This has happened 2 other times but it was in combination with dramamine...It was really scary, he was driving erratically, running red lights, just really scaring me.
7163794 tn?1457366813 myself to get up? Is this in my head, or is it possible there are long term effects to pain meds and suboxone use? Could it just be me? Has anyone else felt this?
Avatar n tn im not srue what all the long term effects are, but I have been on suboxone for seven months now and I ahve been on the amximum dose of 32 mgs. I am now starting tot aper fdown, first to 24 mgs then to 16, then slower and slower. It takes a while to get off suboxone.
Avatar f tn I just wanted to share this story, and maybe warn people about the long term use of suboxone. It is a incredible powerfull drug, and be carefull. Wish me strength to keep this up.
947931 tn?1251495088 subxone is a matience drug, designed for long term use, i stayed on it until i was ready to get clean, so i guess it depends on you and how long you want to stay on opiates, hopefully your suboxone clinic will set up a treatment plan, so you will have a goal, or time marker i definantly "got high" on this drug, the warm fuzzies, confusion, blurred vision, lethargy, mood swings at first it gave me much needed energy, and controlled pain, then it turned on me like one of michael vics pit
Avatar f tn The Suboxone program can be done two ways. You can use it short term as a detox tool, or you can use it long term as a tool to get your life back on track, along with counseling, etc. I have heart disease and withdrawal for me is a trip to ICU. I went on Suboxone for 16 days and it worked well for me. I found my comfort level with it on the first day and stayed at that level for 4 days to allow it to stabilize in my system.
Avatar n tn Check out the "suboxone talk zone" - - the Doc that has that one is very knowledgable concerning the stuff. He is also a Doc that contributes to the professional side of this forum.
Avatar n tn Those who have had the best successful stories concerning suboxone withdrawal ultimately got down to tiny crumbs or slivers of suboxone before quitting.. Unfortunately long term suboxone users have no way to do this pain free. There will be withdrawal. Everyone's story is differnt but the good stories I have heard are from those who went down to teeeny tiny amounts. And YES you will feel normal again (better than normal)--so long as you stay clean after sub.
Avatar m tn My recovery plan was based on the long term strategy coupled with a year-long out-patient treatment plan. Suboxone allowed me to work on recovery skills BEFORE I had to deal with WDs. Because it's a partial opiate agonist it also allowed my brain's reward system to recover. What a partial opiate agonist means is that Suboxone attaches to and stimulates opiate receptors in the brain. As the name implies, this stimulation is only 'partial'.
Avatar n tn Most Suboxone studies follow post-detox patients for only a month and are often funded by the drug company that manufactures Suboxone. There are no long-term studies of Suboxone maintenance. I learned myself about the dangers of Suboxone from meeting people in my practice who have been on it for years. I am ashamed that the medical profession has allowed this to happen. I wish I knew how to fix this problem.
Avatar n tn Some doctors use suboxone for strictly detoxing which is up to 1 month and others use it for long term oxy abuse. It does work, but you cannot mix any other mind altering drug with it, if so you are just wasting precious time on recoverying. I know very much about it, as I used it just for the purpose of not getting sick until my next pile of pills came in.
