243614 tn?1266197537 I know this is the addiction forum. I use to be here too. I got off hydrocodones with the help of suboxone. I was in a study with the sub and it lasted 24 days or so and was a fast taper, too fast. i have never been so depressed in my life. It lasted a couple of weeks and then gradually got better. So, what did i do after that. Became an alcoholic. I have been to rehab, aa meetings, therapist. i am now on naltraxone. It helps but i feel very weird on it. I am wondering if a dr.
4785264 tn?1359142440 I believe it's for the treatment of alcoholism, and not for opiate pain medication. But best to check with a Dr. to get complete and accurate information. Please do not take this without a Dr.'s supervision. Good luck!
14628092 tn?1437549117 I am not an alcoholic, and with the naltrexone I have read that it throws you into horrible withdrawals and does not curb the craving for opioids. Where Suboxone does curb them. I would like to participate in the Suboxone program for 3 weeks, and have help with a tapering plan from someone if the Dr will not accept me only doing the Suboxone for 3 weeks. I am addicted to OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin, Tramadol. I was taking anywhere between 10-16 pills daily of whatever I could get my hands on.
Avatar n tn In my opinion, dosing once per day, always in the morning, is critical to success. Yes, Suboxone alone will block most of the desire for opiates, but when used properly there is so much more that can be done; by dosing once per day we try to extinguish the using behavior. Most people starting Suboxone will ignore the initial recommendations and take it twice per day; I work very hard to get patients to take it ONCE, and to NEVER take it in response to feeling the 'need' for it.
Avatar f tn People who drink heavily tend to be very low on thiamine because the liver is working to process the alcohol in your system as opposed to processing other things (B vitamins for example). Severe Thiamine deficiency can have a whole slew of problems and for the reason above a lot of alcoholics can progress to the point where they need to start taking Thiamine intravenously. It's a serious state that is usually treatable but very dangerous if not taken care of.
459663 tn?1236000877 I call my sub dr today to tell him that i wanted to cancel my appt for the 15 because i went c/t and with no support from him im through the w/ds and he told me that i was on the pink cloud effect and it would only last a few says and then i would need the sub again so i told him to kiss my asse. any one heard about this?
Avatar f tn It knocks out cravings for alcohol and narcotics. It worked good for me with the narcotics. If you would drink on it you would not get sick but you would not get the effects of the alcohol. The down fall to it is if you don't have ins it is $1,000 a month for the shot where I live anyways. The pills are a lot cheaper. I don't know if you would be interested in it but just wanted to pass on the info to you.
Avatar n tn My wife is 7 months pregnant. And is curently taking suboxone for opoid dependence. She cannot get off of them. What Risks are there for our unborn child, and also will he need to go through an opoid withdrawl when he is born? She is a wonderful mother and the suboxone saved her life.

Avatar n tn AA for him and Al-anon for you. Just like addiction, he is the one that needs to change and admit there is a problem.
Avatar n tn I'm 29 years old and have been drinking beer quite heavily for about 4 years. On the nights that I decide not to drink, for whatever reason... I'm plagued by profuse sweating which keeps me from sleeping. I've heard that quitting drinking in some alcoholics can be dangerous. Is this true? And why do I sweat when I don't drink?
Avatar n tn i drank at 14 to get drunk....never seemed to have an off switch like some of my friends who never went to the xtreme i did!i did this with drugs too.....i always failed miserably at controlled use.....there seemed to NO OFF SWITCH within me...no matter how desperately i tried to find it!I have quite a family history of alcoholism......i do believe in genetic predispostion as well..but I didn't ask for this disease.....
Avatar n tn Does alcohol detoxification treatment really treats the physical effects of prolonged use of alcohol. Can an alcoholic be treated without getting himself admitted in India and for how long generally the treatment continues. My husband is a heavy drinker and its almost 17 years since he has been drinking regularly and the result is he is unable to avoid a single day as his legs start paining. His has a busy schedule . Kindly advise . My email id is ***@****.
Avatar n tn A lot of that is bile too,,as mentioned above that is part of the detox,,i know it *****. The imodium and electrolytes will help. How much alcohol are you detoxing from? Do you have meds for seizures or delirium tremors? Coming off alcohol,,its important to be under a doctors care. I hope you feel better soon!
Avatar n tn hi again. ya, for alcohol detoxification a benzodiazepine such as valium, ativan or librium is often given in a tapering dose.
Avatar m tn my friend is an alcohlic and she's having many health issues such as peeling of the hands and feet, hair loss, no apetite, weight loss, anxiety, depression, dimentia, etc... Are these signs of her body shutting down? She's been to several rehabs and has been in the hospital for alcohol poisioning.
Avatar n tn ve experienced about everything withdrawal has to offer, and aside from the medical risk, if it gets too unpleasant she might drink more for relief like i did a few times trying to do it myself. she needs to be somewhere that can provide medication and monitor things like vital signs. there is nothing non-prescription that will help the acute symptoms. please treat this as the potentially life-threatening condition that it is. ironpetal is right, she could die.
Avatar m tn Try and get on a taper to wean off within 45 days. And if its absoultely necessary to stay on suboxone for a while I think maintaining at 4mg should be fine. If not 2mg. I'm not a doctor of course but some doctors, including the one I had, will put you on a high dose and keep you there. They want money just like everyone else.
Avatar m tn Hi. I have a past of opiate addiction and alcoholism. In 2009 was on Oxys for almost a year for back pain. Abused them and would get them from other places besides the pharmacy. Went on methadone and did a taper. Was sober for almost a year, In August this year I relapsed. I used for 6 weeks then went CT for 6 days and ended up using again. Its been 4 weeks of using again and I want off this crap. My need for help is this: Nobody know about this addiction. Not my family or my work.
Avatar f tn t have really have a question that has clear cut answer so I am really searching for a place to vent and speak with people that understand this horrible disease. My estranged husband was diagnosed with liver disease 6 years ago. We have been married for 22 years but I separated from him 6 years ago because of the alcohol abuse. However, after a year he returned to live with us (we have two children, 17 and 21 now) because he does not have family here and does not have a place to go.
1032715 tn?1315984234 Chilean researchers say they are developing a vaccine against alcoholism that could be tested on humans starting next year and works by neutralising an enzyme that metabolises alcohol. The genetic therapy is based on aldehyde dehydrogenase, a group of enzymes that metabolise alcohol and are thus responsible for alcohol tolerance, said Juan Asenjo, who heads a team of researchers at Chile's Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics and the private lab Recalcine.
Avatar n tn I have attempted suicide so many time i cant remember. I have been on methadone for 4 years and it really made my addiction worse. I got off methadone for a year and a half by weening myself. Now ive been on morphine and everything opiate i can get my hands on. Should i try to go to a methadone clinic or does anyone have any suggestions about a rehab that will help me. I'm scared to go threw the motions again and ive heard about suboxen. Is that like methadone?
Avatar f tn I remember it all too well. I knew that it would lead to today. I have been in recovery for 16 years for alcoholism/drugs and my disease took over. Anyway here I am a year later and I can't stop. I can with only taking 1 or 2 pills a day...but I can't stop that 1. I tried cold turkey and I guess because I know all too well what withdrawling feels like I don't let myself get too uncomfortable. I want some advise. Is suboxone the route I should take?
Avatar f tn Hi there. I was on Suboxone for many years and have been off of it for two years. And i will tell you this: I went they wd from my pills soooo many times I lost count. I always went back to using, and did so rather quickly. I never stayed clean for long. Sunoxone gave me time.
