Suboxone dosing for pain

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone dosing for pain

suboxone

Avatar n tn the guidelines taught in order to get the DEA waiver clearly talk about dosing once per day, and having a max dose of 16 mg of Suboxone. In my opinion, dosing once per day, always in the morning, is critical to success. Yes, Suboxone alone will block most of the desire for opiates, but when used properly there is so much more that can be done; by dosing once per day we try to extinguish the using behavior.
1895503 tn?1332373374 The confusion is that I started taking the pain medicine because of pain in my neck and back. I am taking 12 mg of Suboxone, and dosing 3 times a day. I know the 1/2 life is 72 hours so I SHOULDN'T have this problem. But, I really do think it is physiological. is anyone else experiencing this? The back pain goes away after I dose. Thanks so much for your help. I don't know if I should get off Subs now or with.
Avatar n tn I took a 2mg suboxone in the am and 2mg in pm for two days to try and get off those dam roxi's. My last dose of 2mg was yesterday at 5:30pm. As I keep reading and researching about suboxone I am getting more and more afraid that I am going to have withdrawals from the suboxone(which I heard was worse). I am contiplating not taking the suboxone today and just stopping. Will I gert withdrawals from suboxone from taking it for 2 days? If so how long do you think they will last?
Avatar n tn built like a brick house 20 year old male die from doing a combo of H and Suboxone thinking he was invincible, and Suboxone was just a sissy drug ....... that is not b*lls*hit...... just a fact... which is what you ask for........ you can OD by doing both, depending of course based on the mgs of Suboxone and the amount of heroin, in a nano second.
Avatar m tn I took on average 13-15 of them a day for 2 years. Then, I discovered suboxone and was on it for a little over a year...never relapsed. I got down to a quarter of a 2mg pill(0.5mg). Why am I still experiencing such harsh withdrawals? I just want to be off the suboxone and done with it for good. I stopped going to my doctor 3 months ago. I haven't ran out of suboxone either. Just wanted to quit...but, I guess it will leave me no choice but to take it again.
Avatar n tn If you do have precipitated withdrawal, you want to just keep taking the prescribed dose of Suboxone each morning-- usually 8-16 mg per 24 hours. I was recently at a meeting with 70 docs who work extensively with Suboxone, going over the 'best practices' for the medication; some start patients at dosing once per day and stay that way (I do it that way) and others start patients at twice per day and 'work them' down to once per day.
742791 tn?1232585172 Try eating an altoid, stronger the better, right before the Sub dose. Some people also suck on an ice cube for a few minutes before dosing. It might take some of the bad taste away. Also, our resident expert Dr. Junig suggests taking Sub this way....
950277 tn?1247274551 What kind of medically assist detox program was it? Can you give me an idea of how I would look for something like that. I'm worried I won't be able to just quit on my own. I've been on suboxone longer than the pain pills that I was on the suboxone cure for. I took medicine I shouldn't have for six months after my husband died of cancer. Now I'm on this supposed cure for two years and there doesn't appear an end in site. The doctor wasn't helpful.
680775 tn?1234871822 Tough question. So you are scheduled to start suboxone for pain management? Ive heard it helps very little for pain and also heard it controls moderate pain pretty well. It would be hard to guage for me as I did not take it for pain. Some of the benefits are: once a day dosing (it stays in the system a long time). One of the purposes of sub is to break the every few hour dosing behavior. Once a day should do it..
951587 tn?1249227148 Someone close to me (cannot mention who), is right now at a doctor that we found is allowed to prescribe Suboxone. He has had problems with prescription pain meds on and off for years... most recently, Lortab, Vicodin (same thing?), and Perocet. He wants and needs to be off of ALL these meds. Was taking waaay too many everyday... you know the story, broke, lying, always consumed with how to get more, etc.
Avatar f tn Suboxone is a very powerful opiate for the number of mgs in a dose. There are all sorts of equivalence charts but as a rough rule of thumb think of 1mg of Suboxone being roughly equal to 25 mg of morphine. Then there's the added complication of Suboxone being a long half-life drug, which usually makes the withdrawal longer if not harder. I've never heard someone say they jumped from 2mg and it was a walk in the park. I was on it for 2 years. I tapered down to .
Avatar f tn That is a question for your sub doctor
356054 tn?1218552475 It takes a few days to get your dose just right so you feel normal. If you start getting really sleepy it usually means your dose is too high. How much pain pills were you taking per day ?
Avatar f tn This is something you need to discuss with your doctor. Suboxone doesn't really require multiple dosing, and actually people very frequently develop mental hang ups about those subsequent daily doses when it's time to taper, they have a hard time eliminating those multiple doses. Subxone can be taken in one dose daily.
1233941 tn?1267735211 How has Suboxone been for all my viral brothers and sisters out there? I am at week eight at 16mg a day that is working very well. I am working hard, saving money and staying out of harms way.
Avatar f tn You do not need a special "license" to treat patients with suboxone for chronic pain. You do need a special "license" to treat patients with suboxone for opiate dependence. In order to treat addiction patients with suboxone, a doctor needs to complete an 8 hour class in addiction treatment and then they are granted a federal waiver in order or prescribe it for addiction treatment. A quick google search will tell you, or your doctor about this.
Avatar f tn But I have chronic pain issues and my doctor recommended taking it in two doses to help with the pain. It has really helped my back pain. So for me I am considering weaning down to a lower dose and at that point I may consider staying on a low dose for awhile. There are so many schools of thought on how long one should stay on suboxone and, if weaned, how to wean. For me, I have been dropping 2mg then stabalizing for about 4-6 days on that dosage before dropping again.
1109246 tn?1268192801 Congrats! Just curious. What was your suboxone dosing schedule? Do you have to wean off of that too?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Oxycontin and have been taking 120 mgs+ a day for at least that long and percocets for breakthrough pain as well. I want to try and come off the meds because it robs you of your sole and I'm tired of living day to day worrying if I have enough meds till next month. I am also worried if the pain in my hip(s) will show up bad since I've been masking it so long with pain killers.
Avatar m tn First of all, your disease has been in remission the last year. Stopping the Suboxone does not mean that the disease will stay in remission. In fact, I found that after my year long Suboxone course my addiction was at the very same place it was when I first started the Suboxone. You should really get a recovery plan in place before stopping the Suboxone. That means getting to the root cause of the addiction and doing some work.
Avatar n tn Has anyone else here gone on the suboxone for chronic pain relief. This is what my doc is using it for on me-I see most of you are on it for detox....I was wanting of fthe dilaudud as I was afraid of becoming addicted.(And was constipated all the time so he put me on naltrexone for the chronic constipation I was on.Ended up in hospital 4-6x for this.,the naltrexone worked great to help me go also using the miralax as added supplement.
Avatar m tn Ive heard of some people who use injections of buprenex which Id imagine is for quite severe pain, but suboxone isnt really designed for pain management more for getting off of opiates. Wish you all the best, look into as many different methods as possible, there are others out there that can replace opiates.
Avatar f tn Physically, it has no bearing. However, mentally it confirms the addictive behavior. Because of Sub's long half life, there's no reason for twice a day dosing...and, sitting there dosing to keep away withdrawals or to get a "lift" is only telling you addiction that this drug is no different from other opiates. So, that's why doctors with significant addiction experience (not just a general GP) suggest once a day dosing.
Avatar n tn the only difference with suboxone and subutex is that suboxone has a added ingredient that makes for a less potential of abuse, and overdose. suboxone is safer and a better choice i believe.
