if you can maintain on the dose that is lowest, then that will be the best, as suboxone is addictive and a very strong medication. While suboxone is very useful and really does work, one must work with the lowest dosage possible. Keep trying with what you are prescribed. If it is too low, let your doctor work with you to get to the right dose. In the end you will be much better off. Keep posting, everyone is here to support you.
You can google a narcotic conversion chart to see if the difference in dosage and medication is correct. You can also talk to your pharmacist about it. Methadone is very different from other narcotics. It's half life is much longer so it takes a while to get out of your system. It also stores in your muscle and bone, which also make it more difficult to come off.

I am taking Subutex. I used to take Suboxone but got switched over due to my pregnancy. I've been on it this time for a year and a half. I started at 16 mgs. and am down to 4 mgs. and am trying to get down from there. I am a little shocked at your dosage - may I ask why you've been on such a high dosage for so long? Was it a personal choice, or the choice of your doctor, hence the new doctor? I am not judging at all, just curious about your situation.
I ended up putting myself in the hospital in June of 2012 to be medically supervised while I went through the 24 period before taking suboxone. I was only on suboxone for about 30 days before I could not tolerate the pain and so back on the merry go round. Granted I am on a way lower dosage but already doing the count the hours and ending up short every month. I am changing doctors next month not due to pain meds but many issues I do not care for as to my health.
The accepted practice of switching from methadone to any other opioid is based on individual response to dosage, not a chart. Like when I took methadone and used buprenorphine to detox, my doctor used a chart and found that 16mgs of subutex was equivalent to my 200mgs methadone habit. I took 8mgs and was fine, which according to my doctor, was not enough, but my body said it was. So, I suppose my next question is, how does 50mcgs feel?
Does anyone know if suboxone can give you migraines. Dont know if its that or w/d's but ive had one for 2 days now and i've heard sub has some side effects?
I have been searching for WEEKS trying to find an answer to my question and cannot seem to find the exact answer. I know that it is best to be under the care of a Dr before you use Suboxone but I am not and know that is best but now I have to get off of Oxy's AGAIN and need help!! I was on Oxy 80 mg 2x a day for 2 years. I tapered and went through HELL with withdrawals! It was very hard but I did it!! That was about 2 years ago and now I am on them AGAIN! I am so mad that I did this!
Today i started suboxone waited 7 hours in dr. office trying to get right dosage. I was taking 600mg of morphine daily for 4 years. I been off all opiods for 48+ hours and I feel like **** now and I feel that the suboxone not even working. I also feel that the dr. didn't dose me right. I taking 8mg of suboxone. Everyone swears by it I hate it. I want to feel better but if not in 3 days i feel I have to start back on my drug of choice or start methadone.
Has anyone been on suboxone and noticed it works better at lower doses, compared to the 12-16mg. target dosage for maintaince?? I was on 16mg. for about 10 days, and I just felt down, sluggish, depressed and so on. But I tapered my dosage from 16mg. a day down to 8 and it seems to work much better, I tapered down by 1mg a day, because some people do not realize that suboxone, even at 4mg. is a pretty high dosage because it is very potent. I have had three major back surgeries for which I was using strong opioids for two years. Started taking 16mg of Suboxone, Worked that down to 2mg and now I cut the tab in half for 1mg per day. Can a pharmacist custom make me even smaller doses so I can completely rid myself of taking this medication?
Suboxone is very potent so a small does goes a long way, I need to find a way to take it is still smaller doses so I can stop taking it without getting sick.

This is why we always suggest that members do a program, with their doctor, on Suboxone. They use a COWS chart and put you on the proper dose.
Your self-medicating is most likely causing this. Stay with the amino acids, they will help a bit.
Whatever you do, don't use. If you want to do the Suboxone program, please do it properly.
Let us know what is going on and we can make some suggestions on home remedies, etc. Hang in there.
The suboxone doctor would probably have given you a temporary increase in your suboxone dosage, in order to help with the (I assume) temporary dental pain. It sounds like your upset that you didn't get the vicodin filled. It's a good thing in the long run though, at least your not in trouble with your suboxone doctor.
Hi I just happened to see your post, it hasn't been answered. I don't have a great answer but there is a conversion chart from Suboxone to Methadone, you can search it out.
At the same time, from everything I have read if you were going from 30 mg of Methadone to 12mg sub it would be ok, the opposite is not true.
Suboxone is much stronger than other opiates so you would want to do the conversion yourself before the doctor switches you.

Suboxone will utterly **** you up to begin with. But, the more you take it, the less you feel unless you up your dosage. But, it is addictive so don't let anyone tel any of you different. As for being on Suboxone & trying to get high on other drugs as well, you can not get high on any type of pain medication while on it but as for speed, nerve pills, basically anything else but pain medication, you can still get high.
I was just wondering how much methadone is equvalent to how much suboxone?
