Common Questions and Answers about Stroke young people

stroke

Avatar f tn By any chance was your stroke a carotid artery dissection? This one is the most common one for people ages 30-60 which is also considered young for a stroke. And what generally causes it is trauma from a car accident, chiropractic treatment, sneezing, coughing, or just spontaneously for no reason. That's the kind of stroke that I had, totally out of the blue with no risk factors.
Avatar f tn Just wondered if there are any "young" stroke survivors out there. My very healthy athletic husband had an unexplained massive right side stroke Sept 2014 at age 47, (yah, no spring chicken I know, but still...) He got the TPA in time, however he had a bleed anyway causing more damage and an emergency craniotomy for the swelling. He is lucky to have survived but the stroke has taken it's toll on him, but he is fighting hard to make a comeback.

Avatar m tn Hi Brodo256, I also had a stroke and have been looking for groups/message boards for young people who have had strokes. I haven't found too much, but there are a few groups on facebook. It seems like all the resources are for parents of young kids/babies who have had strokes or much older people who have had strokes. When did you have your stroke? How have you been doing since?
Avatar f tn You have to wonder why is Stroke affecting so many young people nowadays.
Avatar f tn Hi I had a stroke 3 months ago. I am 33. It was scary coz I always thought strokes only happened to old people. Is there anyone else out there who's had a stroke at a young age?
Avatar m tn Somehow I think if cannabis use were the cause for young people having strokes, many more people would have suffered them. I do think there is a problem with not knowing what someone is getting, in terms of strength. We need testing and decriminalization. http://www.eastbayexpress.
667937 tn?1227758698 GO TO YOUR DOCTOR !!!!! HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN TELL YOU WHAT IS WHAT ??? AND NO ONE IS TOO YOUNG OR TOO OLD TO GET A STROKE OR SOMETHING .....
Avatar f tn m so sorry. This was such a serious situation for this young man. What was the cause of his stroke? What has happened? Did he live?
Avatar f tn First, what a young man to have had a stroke. Any reason why that they pinpoint that he had it? Stroke is such a unique journey of recovery for everyone. I'm glad he is responsive when you bring an issue to him but understand what you mean. Sometimes you just want to talk about it without feeling like you can't because they react so badly to it. I have to say . . . some men are just like this even without a stroke affecting them.
Avatar m tn The reason why your systolic is elevated is pretty simple. Your heart is strong and is pumping a lot of blood when you are stressed. The fact that your diastolic may be low in the same setting may be a result of your good physical condition. When exposed to adrenaline, your blood vessels dilate (so-called beta 2 stimulation) and your heart pumps faster and heavier (so-called beta 1 stimulation).
Avatar n tn It was about 8 weeks after the stroke that he could walk and that was with a walker. My husbands stroke was in July 2007 and today he walks without assistance except if we're going to the mall where he has to walk a long distance. He'll get tired easily on long walks. He has made a miraculous recovery considering the type of bleed he had. My husbands left side was partially paralyzed but now he moves it just fine, although it's not as strong as before.
Avatar f tn rsm, Everything you mentioned are symptoms of stroke. Even just one of these symptoms could mean a stroke, with all of those problems it sure does sound like it. I am sure that she is in denial. I know that most people think that strokes only happen to "old" people, but that is a myth. A stroke can happen to anybody at anytime with no warning whatsoever. Please take her to the ER at once.
Avatar m tn My 60 year old mother is recovering from her 3rd stroke . This current stroke was a massive one & she can not Talk or Walk or respond to commands... Her right side is paralyzed. All she can do at the moment is open her eyes and look to the Left and stare. The Doctors told me that this is how she might be for the rest of her life. Im scared to death because she is so young and i cant picture my life without her in it .
Avatar n tn ve been prescribed a course of Rigevidon and when I searched information about this pill, I was alarmed because there is a petition to say this pill should be withdrawn. People as young as 23 have died and had stroke. While I understand that there is always a risk of DVT, depression or stroke when taking contraceptive pills, I was thinking, there are other brand of pills which contains more or less the same hormones ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel. So should I be concerned?
Avatar m tn There are many types, even ones for people that have been out of there stroke for an extended period of time. If your still having trouble look them up... MIne helped, I hope, I am also on the list for another, rehab type.... Hopefully they call. Be sure to be as pro active as you can... The one I was in is still open, I think, but you have to be there for treatment within 48 hours of your stroke. THey take young and old patients..

407961 tn?1202013647 I had a left cerebellar stroke in oct of 2007. I am 20 years old. They said it happened because of birth control and smoking. I really want to have another baby, but I am worried about what could happen. I have a 2 year old, and that pregnancy went perfect!! But I am worried about having another one. I have left side weakness when i dont get enough sleep, and i still have tingling in my left arm, but i take aspirin every day and check my blood pressure and it stays low.
Avatar f tn Hi, you are too young to have suffered a stroke. What was the cause for the bleed? this is important, as the risk for another bleed is high. It can sometimes be due to bleeding disorders, due to which spontaneous bleeds are a probability. Please follow up with your doctor and continue with your rehabilitation program. Good luck with your recovery. Regards.
Avatar f tn It can leave a person with vision loss, speech impediments or even cognitive issues and personality changes. Many people experience some sort of depression after a stroke. Some people heal quickly and some it can take months or even years to recover. It's all up to the brain. The information that DrNavneetMD gave you is good for knowing what kind of therapy that is out there for a stroke survivor. All those therapists are crucial for the recovery of a stroke survivor.
Avatar f tn That is really hard to say. Sounds like this person had a lot going on. Obviously you have your suspicions so that says something. Are they or have they done an autopsy? Toxicology takes 4-6 weeks, but other than that you can get results very quick. Sorry for your loss.
