Avatar n tn During my TIA, my left arm floated up by itself and the neurologist said it is called "floating limb" and is seen in some stroke victims. I believe there are people that have had a small stroke and don't realize it. I would see your doctor...just to be safe.

Does any one have any success stories to share w/ us - it just gives us hope - he is a 6'2 , 240 lb high school football player set to play college football next year pre stroke. Avatar n tn Although you often hear that the majority of recovery for stroke victims is seen within the first six months, I feel there is always hope. New advances and research are taking place and have now proven that the brain can make new "pathways". I have read reports that state even though damaged brain cells cannot be replaced, that unaffected brain cells can take over some functions of the destroyed cells. Has your mom continued physical therapy?

Can you tell me if this procedure has been approved yet in the U.S. If so, can it be done at the Cleveland Clinic? We already came there 4 years ago , and at that time, nothing could be done.

Avatar f tn My best friend had a massive stroke on Jan.16/09. As of Jan 18/09 she has been in a coma. She is 51 years old and has been in fairly good health. She has always been a fighter. The Drs. are only giving her less then 5% chance of pulling out of it. Anyone that knows the same situation with any words of encouragement would help. Avatar f tn I am also baffled at how little nurses aides know about stroke victims such as my mom and hold her to a higher standard of cognitive thinking. After entering the nursing home they would scold her for something she could not control, even right in front of me. Of course, many of them are on minimum wage and have very limited English so I should understand, ha? After my continued persistence and threats, the scolding has stopped. Geez!
