Common Questions and Answers about Stroke treatment er

stroke

Avatar n tn I concur with mammo. Your symptoms indicate an irregular cardio system. Don't wait for a stroke or heart attack to happen, get your behind to an ER and get checked out!
282804 tn?1236833591 So, hearing that she needs to get to the ER immediately and get checked for signs of an oncoming stroke, our buddy Chris picks up the car keys and drives herself to the ER. LOL Only Chris. She was laughing and in good spirits and will call me back when she knows something. If she was going to stroke out I think she would have done it by now, but I don't know for sure.
Avatar n tn Husband woke up with dizziness, vertigo, vomiting at 3 AM last week. B/P 225/120 ER said he did not have a stroke ( according to CT scan. Can't do MRI due to stents which he got for a 95% blockage to his heart 4 yrs ago.) Cardiologist switched BP meds and B/P going down well on that now.He' still very fatigued, difficulty with spacial perception, walking etc...The Nuero Doc can't see him till May 1st. Any idea what's up with all of this and what kind of treatment we should pursue?
Avatar f tn My dad is 87 years old and presented with dizziness and balance issues, including walking to the left and inability to stop. We took him to the ER where he was diagnosed with a stroke which turned out to be a TIA. That has resolved and the doctors say it stemmed from the artery at the neck. I think this would be the Basilar artery.
Avatar f tn If you or someone you care about is concerned about a stroke, please go to the ER/A&E/Casualty (I don't know what it's called in T&T) or call emergency services if you can not arrange for transport. Early treatment is vital. Slurred speech, sagging on one side of the face, difficulty in moving one side of the body. But it can be more subtle.
Avatar f tn Glad he went to the ER but if he had a stroke, the clot busting meds only work in the first few hours, so it is best to go asap, not wait but it is hard to get men to do anything. There can be other issues like bell's palsy where suddenly half the face is paralyzed so it does not have to be a stroke but better safe than sorry. Let us know how it turns out.
Avatar f tn No he did not have a stroke. We are well aware of those signs, and he does not exhibit any of the classic signs. The right pupil reacts to light and works like it is supposed to. the left one is open and does not react to the light. He said his vision was blurry straight down the left side. Either way he is going to the doctors as soon as they open in the morning. And yes my choice was for him to go to the ER this afternoon when he told me about it.
Avatar f tn Accompany your friend and go to the the ER immediately for prompt treatment and to avoid possible serious complications. Take care!

Avatar f tn Hi, I am here on behalf of my mom who has cirrhosis. She is 68. Quit drinking & smoking several years ago. Hepatic encephalopathy was controlled with rifaximin & lactulose until she suffered a stroke Oct 13, 2013. Now her liver is decompensated & She is getting beat up by the HE. Doctors say there is nothing more to be done. "Put her in an institution." She is now on warfarin as well as other meds.
Avatar m tn You should not be waiting to see a doctor when you suspect a TIA as if you had one, it is very possible you could have a stroke while waiting for treatment. Danger level is high & you need treatment started today! Please, won't you see the doctor today on this & if need be, go to the ER if the doctor can't squeeze you in today? Using a magnetic resonance machine, doing an MRA/MRV, is better than CT scan when looking for evidence of TIA (infarcts) in your head.
Avatar n tn Should ever experience these symptoms collectively, get yourself to an ER immediately because some the damage done by a stroke can be reversed if anti-coagulants are administered within 3 - 4hrs of the clot developing. The anti-coagulant, in and of itself, is a potent drug, so the ER would thoroughly vet you before administering it--which will include a check-up by the neurologist on call. I'm not a doctor, but judging by your post, I doubt you're having a stroke...
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a right sided stroke two weeks ago. I was life flighted to the ER where they ran all the tests to make sure it was a stroke. They gave me the clot busting drugs which reversed the effects of the stroke. but I'm having both numbness in both hands and arms. Does anyone have any answers?
Avatar f tn I am so afraid that they are going to continue to get worse until I end up having a major stroke. Has anyone had a stroke or know someone else with Lyme disease that suffered a stroke? I have not seen much in written symptomology about causing stroke but with this disease I "never say never".
744637 tn?1250803022 s and also a mild stroke. I always go to the ER and they run the tests, CT, MRI/MRA, Carotid Doppler, EKG, blood work, on and on. The first time it happened was the real deal, it indeed showed a small stroke and I was glad I went, my L. arm was numb and then I tried to talk and could not, it was like my tongue was swollen. I had a minimal amt. of headache on the R. side, which made sense, it was my L. arm that was affected.
Avatar f tn All this lasted about an hr from onset and ER drs witnessing these symptoms first hand initially thought i was having a stroke. Stroke did not show, nor did anything else on MRI, CAT scan, ECG or in bloodwork. With my heart condition is it reasonable to assume this could be a TIA in your opinion? I have presented to ER 2 other times within the same month with same symptoms exact but a bit milder and each time the drs dismiss me with no possible explanation.
Avatar n tn s good that you went to the ER and they treated you like a stroke victim, I believe they did the right thing at the hospital in treating you. It's hard to tell the difference between a CM and stroke. They can have the same symptoms. I do not smoke, have never been on Valtrex and have had a tubal. Don't know how shingles would come into play, that would be for a dr. to say. The meds I take are preventative med for migraines and aspirin. Complicated migraines are just that....
Avatar m tn This is simple, you need to go back to the ER and get treated. Anything over 200 systolic is dangerous, you could stroke at anytime. I'm not trying to scare you but you need to play it safe so go back to the ER, get over your concern for lying there and let them lower your BP, it is that important.
Avatar m tn could i be having a stroke all this time. also my nose is stuffy 24/7 but that has been going on for years. i do go to my doctor on Monday. pls help me?
Avatar m tn Were you able to be transported to the ER or doctor's office? Please give me an update?
Avatar n tn My mother is believed to have suffered a stroke recently but we are not being told anything, after about a week of numbness and pins and needles she has lost all use of the right hand, there has been some numbness and slight slurring of the speach, she is now unable to hold a proper conversation due to forgetting what she was about to say mid sentence and gets headaches in well lit areas like shopping malls.
Avatar n tn under my tongue, I had diffuculty which speech, my BP was normal but high range of normal, 128/94 which for me is very high. They then sent me to the ER in the ambulance they found that my blood glucose level was low-never had an issue before. They gave me an Chest Xray, CT scan and blood work all came back normal but they decided to keep me for observation. The next morning I had an MRI with contrast again normal.
1346447 tn?1327862572 She could not stand. After treatment for stroke she now stands on the leg.She is 70 years old. She had left carotid artery completely blocked for long time. This was never noticed. Now in additio we observed that her short term memory is getting deterioted. In the past twenty years slowly it is observed that her blood supply to brain was getting reduced. This process was stabilised .But now we find that memory loss is occuring. At present she is practically all the time in the bed lying.
1580703 tn?1651904887 doctort diagnose me stroke, I have sudden slurring speech, drooling, hearing loss, can't understand speech. and later muscle weakness in whole body, fell down stairs twice gashed my head. feel unconnected to my body and asleep. Avatar n tn What is the preferred optimal treatment for a 65 year old recovered stroke patient (only mild aphasia) diagnosed with Patent formanen ovale? Is it the use of the closure device or medication with blood thinners?
Avatar n tn probably not a stroke but a neurological problem of a different type. eyes rolling in the back of the head what do you mean exactly? left side of the body paralyzed do you mean it literally? you can't use the arm and the leg on that side?
