I can use a can to walk with assistance short distances. I still have no movement in my left arm, but a little in my left shoulder. Avatar f tn stopping alcohol intake can improve the ataxia but if it is severe, some permanent symptoms may remain. In patients with cerebellar stroke, with intensive physical and occupational therapy over weeks to months, symptoms may become minimal and may even resolve completely.
Avatar f tn I thought strokes caused paralysis type symptoms but it seems that all of his symptoms are mental rather than physical.. has anyone had any experience with this sort of situation as we feel that the doctors are maybe clutching at straws and we aren't getting too many answers or help at this stage. It seems to me that a person in his situation wont last too long with without food and whilst its very distressing seeing this man who has always been a gentle and loving man behave like this..
Avatar m tn My mother frequently gets the symptoms of TIAs. Actually, I believe she has a TIA every month, and she seems to be getting worse. Every month it never fails to come back as I watch my mother lose balance, slur her words, and act complete gone. The whole week of that TIA is a struggle, and as soon as she seems to be "recovering" she happens to experience more TIA symptoms. What can I expect?

Avatar f tn My son who is 38 had a stroke on Sept. 25, 2009. His left leg and left arm is paralyzed. He has been in two different sub-acute rehab facilities since Dec. 2009. The most recent one he has been there since Feb 10, 2010 but they only started the physical therapy on about Mar 7, 2010. The physical therapists and doctors are now telling me he probably won't get any better and we should be getting ready to take him home.

There was a little droop of my mouth, and since then I have experienced a mild lisp --a gets a little harder to speak when I am tired. Avatar f tn Also your body will play tricks on you after the removal that make you think that your pregnant, I myself went through these, and boy are they not fun, especially since period and pregnancy symptoms are so similar. Also I know a very few women who have gotten pregnant right away after removal, so anything is posible, but most Dr's will advise you to wait at least one cycle so that your uterus linning is thick to hold the baby.
Avatar n tn Hi Tony I'm glad you're not depressed ;) Re: tiredness, it seems that this is the one thing all us strokees have in common. I don't know how long since your stroke but fatigue still seems to be an issue even for long termers. I don't know if this is true or not but it is how I make sense of it all. My brain is busy forging new connections & pathways and on my bad side fewer muscles & muscle fibres are firing to move that side of the body - so of course I get tired.
Avatar n tn I was told that women don't get their blockage on their carotid arteries surgery until they're symptomatic. What is the approximate percentage range of success in clearing they and the patient surviving if they are 82% blockage on one side and 62% on the other side? I've searched high and low and cannot find any real statistical data or probability of success. Thank you in advance.
Avatar m tn Also your body will play tricks on you after the removal that make you think that your pregnant, I myself went through these, and boy are they not fun, especially since period and pregnancy symptoms are so similar. Most women will agree that the bleeding after removal is just removal bleeding not a period.

Avatar n tn My 86 year old mother just came out of the hospital on Friday after being in for ten days due to a "mini-stroke" (TIA). It was the fifth one she has had since suffering a major stroke in 2007. Tonight she started bleeding; not heavy but enough to saturate her Depends underwear. I have noticed some very light spotting in the past, but only about once a month. The cause of this is puzzling me. I guess the doctor needs to be seen. Any advice?
Avatar f tn Well, it's not necessarily a symptom of MS. But it does say that something is not right, and that's why you need to consult your doctor. Good luck and let us know.
Avatar f tn that whole side just hurts and i am unable to lift my arm or leg let alone walk its stroke symptoms but no stroke has happened it started on march 4 2009 i was hospitalized they thought it was a stroke i was told that the top of my brain looks good iwas also told they cant see the bottom of the brain and the doctors dont think there is any thing there either. but they are not sure. i had a c spine mri it was clean also. the doctors are saying its in my head or its just stress.
Avatar m tn I'm 62 and was physically fit before my May19 2009 stroke. Left arm and side weak.Veery limited control in shoulder. can anyone suggest good exercises to reconnect arn to brain?
Avatar m tn s been 60 days since she had the stroke. My question is does anyone know if someone with similar stroke recovered even partially and if so after how long. I know that every patient is different and their recovery won't be same. We are doing physio but all cases we heard so far are accident cases and they do seem to recover after a while but I never care across any patient like my mom who recovered.
