Avatar n tn No HX in family of HBP. Currently testing for pheochromocytes. K level exact mid-line @ 4.3 mEq/L. Stroke has been R/O Thoughts?
Avatar f tn The neurologist said that the spot on the pons should have been more defined if a stroke (besides other symptoms don't match). It was kind of fuzzy looking like a cloud or smudge. I am not too good at describing it but it was kind of large. Dr kept drawing with his hands what a stroke should look like. Anyway, fever has been lower but not normal. It was 99.1 tonight and 99.5 this morning.
Avatar f tn Many of the early symptoms of methanol poisoning are non-specific eg. headache, dizziness, malaise, generalized weakness, altered sensorium, acute mania, and paresthesias.
Avatar n tn Hi I'm terribly upset. My dad has just had a stroke. He's 72 and is currently in hospital virtually asleep full time. We know that it is caused by a blood clot stemming from Atrial Fibrillation and it has affected his left side (No vision, left arm and leg) The doctor has painted a very bleak picture which was very devastating and right now at this moment it just seems that there is no hope. Can anyone re-assure me that if he survives there is some hope for quality of life.
Avatar m tn A holter showed I have PSVT. The list of symptoms given me is the usual , accelerated pulse. dizziness, breathlessness, weakness. nausea, fatigue etc. I have most of these, twice just today EXCEPT FOR ACCELERATE HEART BEAT AND GASPING FOR BREATH. . THESE SOUND FUNDAMENTAL TO DIAGNOSIS OF PSVT. COULD THEIR ABSENCE MEAN I HAVE SOME OTHER PROBLEM NOT PSVT? I'm 85, one stent 2010, I can do 5kms bike and gym early am and be sick as a dog later or vice versa.
Avatar n tn L-lysine is often taken to enhance calcium absorbtion and promote some help in fighting viruses. You were not specific on the symptoms you experience, but my guess is that when you exercise you don't drink water, or you sweat to excess. This will dehydrate you and you will lose salt and other minerals. You can experience shaking of the hands, visual disturbances, headaches, stomach aches, stitches in the sides, exhaustion, low grade temps and other unpleasant symptoms.
Avatar n tn Then I developed symptoms like strep throat and I went to the second doctor. I developed these symptoms after spending a day with a friend that had simmilar symptoms (white stuff all over her throat). I drank from the same bottle of gatarode as her. My school physician (2nd doctor) diagnsoed it as strep, but did not take a throat culture and perscribed Zythromax.
Avatar f tn In October 08 my symptoms were still apparent so i was hospitalised for 10days for various neurological tests. They have ruled out M.S, Cancers, brain absecces/tumours and stroke. They have stated that my symptoms link towards a problem with the cerebellum however all scans/blood tests/lumber punctures were clear & do not support my symptoms.
Avatar f tn Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions: S *Ask the individual to SMILE. (if only one side of the smile raises that can point to a possible stroke) T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. make me a bowl of Chicken Soup) R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. (how evenly can they hold their arms?
Avatar n tn Yesterday after I was reading I went into the other room that was bright and then within a few minutes saw an 8 sided star that got bigger and bigger then traveled to side vision as wiggles. It really scred me and wondered if it was a stroke. ThenI put on my shades and it seemed to go away. About 1/2 later i got a really bad sinus headache. Any input would be helpful as I have some anxiety about this.
1559533 tn?1308952161 What you describe and how these symtoms are transient makes me think that you have NOT had a stroke. There should be some attempts by your doctors to manage the Sjogren symptoms - you should have a serious discussion with them. You are more than welcome to stick around here - we have a very smart community about a lot of diseases, but you might also want to find a Sjogren's group that can help you with your specific questions.
Avatar f tn Hi Dear, Gliosis is a proliferation of astrocytes (large star shaped non-neuronal support cells) in damaged areas of the central nervous system. Astrocytes have various functions, including accumulating in areas where neurons have been damaged. It is the most important histopathological sign of CNS injury which might be an aftermath / sequelae of stroke.
Avatar n tn cbethy, You are having many of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. That's a dangerous game your playing with your health by taking that medicine. I wouldn't suggest continuing on that medication. Thyroid medication is not for wt loss!!! You've only been taking that med for a short period & alrady feel that bad...
751951 tn?1406636463 If you saw my post from last week you will know that I received my disabled badge for my car last week and I used it for the first time last weekend to visit a friend who is only 44 and has just had a stroke. He is ok and recovering but it made me think maybe I shouldn't be so upset all time. The badge saved me walking so far as my legs hurt all the time these days.
Avatar n tn I googled *Tia* and see this is like a prelude to a stroke. I don't think anyone here would be able to tell you for sure what's going on with your girl. We are just members like yourself. Could have been a seizure, I suppose, but hard to say. Try not to panic until you know what's wrong. Oh, and be sure to syringe some food and water if she's not eating. Please let us know the outcome and how your girl is doing tomorrow. Good luck!
Avatar f tn before tuesday she has always been an intelligent, together woman.i am told they don't think she had a stroke,i am also told they haven't been medicating her with anything since tuesday night but blood thinners, she is in ICU i am told some patients have some "psychotic, like" reactions from being in there with no windows and all also she has'nt can't sleep since arriving there.she has made several crude, life threatening remarks one regarding a nurse etc...
Avatar n tn I have heard of many different grafts (angel wings, cardioseal, star-flex). I would appreciate it if you would give me your opinion on the following: 1. Do you recommend closing the PFO,take a blood thinner, or stay on one aspirin per day? 2. Which graft has the best performance? 3. Can I continue to run and lift weights?
Avatar n tn seen my eye doctor, twice, when I didn't have symptoms. Had pupils dilated. His diagnosis: probably a migraine without the headache. Concern: continuing to be able to drive and to work. When this happens it's very difficult to see and to concentrate. I'm a 51 1/2 year old white male. For the past 2 years I've been having a flash in my eye that, when it occurs, disturbs my vision. It's like I'm getting hit in the eye by the sun but there's no direct sunlight available.
Avatar m tn After being treated somewhat they said I should be on an aspirin therapy I said I don't have heart problems and that aspirin can cause bleeding and a stroke. The Dr. said you're going on the aspirin and with that 2 weeks later I had 4 clots 2 in each leg. So a long story short I have a filter in me and I take rat poison to keep my blood flowing. I try not to eat anything that contains vitamin K And try to supplement with things that thin the blood.
Avatar m tn I had incurred a small bleed in my brain that eventually led to a stroke. I knew that there was something wrong with me, but I couldn't put my finger on it. It would take almost 6 months before I was scanned under an MRI and the stroke was discovered. Unfortunately, I had discovered it only after completely turned my entire life into chaos.
Avatar n tn These doctors have been researching migraines and they have came up with the idea that migraines cause brain damage. Migraines deprive the brain of oxygen and cause the symptoms that we go through. I was quite scared when I read that!!!!! I'm still doing more research so anything else I read I'll send you. Also I would talk with my doctor about that maybe being the reason you have white matter. Eventually things will get worse, if the migraines aren't prevented.
Avatar n tn I am only 41 and have had noticeable symptoms for at least 8 years, getting worse all the time. Most of my symptoms have gone away except for the DV and tingling in feet. I do have vertigo quite often still. I had gone to my PCP in MAy 2000 for the vertigo and "vibrations" or tremors in my legs but I had what was thought to be a Stroke in Nov 00 but MRI revealed that not to be the case. That's when MS came up but I still don't have a diagnosis.
Avatar m tn Age 52, woke one morning with a numb face, off to doc who sent me straight to hospital, checked out for a stroke (no sign of any heart related issue), blood rest revaeled significantly high blood sugar, diagnosed with type 1 diabetis, bear in mind I am 6 ft and weight very good for this height 13 stone. Again insulin regularised and touch wood well controlled, everyone happy. Diabetes specialist not convinced re issue with numb face.
Avatar n tn I have schuermanns disease which a curved spine to one side. When a person has a stroke there are usually symptoms of numbness or speech that does not make sense. Do you get motion sickness? If so, it is probably due to the sinus, ears, head, or spine.
Avatar n tn I'm short on time but my thought is to post this to the symptoms forum. You may have a better response there. I'm truly sorry for your loss.
61536 tn?1340701763 I had the vision disturbance too, I couldn't see in front of me. It was a gray area, like looking into the sun and then away. I knew I was having a stroke, but it passed in a few hours. I had to get my medical books out to reassure myself (and mayo clinic website)And I was the only one concerned about it. My doc said I was lucky to have all of the classic warning symptoms and gave me an RX for Phenergan. Never used it. I too am dehydrated today.
Avatar n tn He has stroke in his family so when he got the same type headache you describe, we kept going until we found a doctor who could help us. He had severe migraines ( 1 or 2 a month) for years, but 4 mos ago he got bad, pounding headaches, felt and heard his pulse over his ear. He hears it at night when he tries to sleep. This sound is called a BRUIT (pronounced bru-wee) which is NOT normal. He had bloodwork and mri's - all normal. He went through at least 5 docs.
Avatar n tn Your doctor should follow this condition with routine echocardiograms and questions regarding symptoms. Mitral valve prolapse is probably not related to the orthostatic intolerane you have been experiencing. Your doctor's diagnosis may be correct. Hope this helps.

Avatar n tn It's ok not to know the answer. At the time of the stroke symptoms I had I was using the birth control patch Ortho Evra. I was told by everyone to stop. I did. I haven't had any other kind of episode. No headaches before or after. I had a dull ache in my head while I lost vision and had numbness in my left side in November when I went to the ER. Is there a way to really tell the difference between a TIA and a Complicated headache?
