Avatar m tn Her neglect of left side is also decressed but still is there as she cant see left side of the oicture or read left side of the sentence. we are using flash card to stimulate her from that side. My main concern is she still does not talk sense and not able to related present.. although she can perfectly recall past with minute detail of what happened just now. 1678022 tn?1305117867 They told us she had massive brain damage to the full left side of her brain and she has not use of the right side. Her eyes were open and unrespionsive on monday. She had several seizures that day. They told us there was massive damage to the left side and swelling. They told us she would not recover and that she would be a step down from a veggie if she did recover. We prayed over her all day and night and refused to except the doctor's report.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your reply on my Post regarding brain stroke on left side. My sister is under medical care at the present time. But the doctors seem to think that this is some rare case. She has lost some 32# in 3weeks. They now have her on intravenous, she still could not keep down any pills. She had been to a rehab.unit for a week, they let her go home, and thats when she still could not take any pills, without throwing up.
1127040 tn?1289722262 That is totally dependent on the area of the brain that was damaged. You would have to ask medical staff which area of the brain controls the heart. From personal experience it is not the motor cortex or pre-motor cortex or I would be dead.
1110049 tn?1409405744 When I had a stroke on 17th June my face dropped on one side. i had a bleed on left side of my brain. My left side is weak and I find talking difficult. I was taken to hospital straight away, and spent nearly two weeks there. That was 8 weeks ago. i have been struggling. My speech hardly improved, and now i have lost my voice, but that may not be due to the stroke. my walking not too bad, but cannot use my left arm and hand.
Avatar n tn I am in THE SAME SITUATION. My dad is 71 years old. he had a large bleed in the left side of his brain. The doctor has him on a ventilator to keep swelling and pressure down and also to prevent more bleeding. The doctor tells us that my dad is not unresponsive but I KNOW thats not true. The cause of his injury is still unknown. I wish we had some kind of info just for peace of mind but its good to know there are others out there in this same terrifying and unfortunate predicament.
Avatar m tn I have had a ct scan done on my brain and they found that I have white circles with black in the middle of them. What are they?
Avatar n tn as your mom has had a stroke on the left side of her brain, then it will affect the right side of the body. the right side of your brain controls the left side of the body and vice versa. it all depends with each patient on the recovery, and depending on how bad the stroke is and your moms health prior to the stroke.
Avatar n tn Last week there was another cat scan and eeg, a different doctor told the family that she would have cp if she recovered but that she had brain stem activity, still nothing conclusive on the left and right sides of the brain, but that they need to consentrate on her getting off N.O. What exactly does loss of left side brain activity, or reduction of left side brain activity mean for quality of life?? I love her, I dont want her to suffer. We know so little about the brain, can we help her?
Avatar m tn my 53 yr old father had a massive left side brain stroke 4 months back. He is diabetic with high BP problem. He also underwent angioplasty 5 yrs back and has stent in his heart artery. Following the angioplasty operation, he was on a blood thinning medicine. When the artery ruptured in his brain, the blood spread rather than to get clot giving him a major brain hemorrhage. After the stroke, he has right side paralyzed. now opens his eyes but has no cognizance.
Avatar f tn Slurred speech, sagging on one side of the face, difficulty in moving one side of the body. But it can be more subtle. I'm not trying to cause excess worry, because I'm just a layperson on the internet, but seriously - if you're concerned, don't waste time waiting for answers off the internet.
Avatar m tn She is paralyzed on the LEFT side with sensation now in the left leg; none on the left arm. She has left-side neglect but that seems to have lessened slightly. She can now eat pured food but has a feeding tube that they hope to remove around the 19th of Sept. She talks, remembers, can now smile and can read (basically the right side of the page). Realistically, what is the outcome for her in six months?
Avatar n tn These will help to diagnose whether it is a stroke and whether the stroke is ischemic or haemorrhagic . If left untreated , it may lead to paralysis on one side of the body . Please discuss the management plan with a neurologist after the diagnostic tests are done . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
Avatar n tn She is paralyzed on her left side, but she can swallow and is eating well. She can talk fine but was coming up with off the wall stories and was somewhat confussed. as of sat she seemed more to herself and less confussed and making sense. but she could always answer any question you ask her pretty much right. (examples: dad's meds, bills that needed paid) She started moving her left foot a little and could feel where we were touching it last nite.
Avatar m tn We'll my dad had lacunar stroke on right side of brain Oct 17 2013 . He is paralyzed on left side. He was walking with walker nov 2 2013 but nov 27 he got pneumonia and his heart got irregular. He had a critical troponin result that day. Now he has a half inch bed sore and he is kinda giving up. Dec 17 the rehab center suggested hospice plan ideas. Disappointing.

Avatar n tn Hi Tony I'm glad you're not depressed ;) Re: tiredness, it seems that this is the one thing all us strokees have in common. I don't know how long since your stroke but fatigue still seems to be an issue even for long termers. I don't know if this is true or not but it is how I make sense of it all. My brain is busy forging new connections & pathways and on my bad side fewer muscles & muscle fibres are firing to move that side of the body - so of course I get tired.
Avatar m tn We are not sure when she had it but we think it was 18hrs before we found her. She had scans done on her brain and they said she had a massive stroke and brain bleed. When we found her she was breathing on her own and had a heart beat but wasn't responsive, she is still like that today. The doctors say she has less than 5% chance of surviving and not to revive her if she has a heart attack as she will end up with no quality of life.
Avatar n tn Finally, the morning I was having a stroke I was on the internet with a group of fellow professionals from around the world. I left a message which I forgot about, there are 7 weeks out of my life that I don't remember, had a few wild dreams though, but last week a friend sent me a link to the message that I posted, when I read it I was shocked but laughter cured it, the message simply said: Splat.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am sorry to hear about your father's condition. The start of recovery after a stroke depends on which part of the brain is affected and the severity of the brain damage. Some spontaneous recovery does take place for most people soon after the stroke. Abilities that may have been lost begin to return. The process may take place quickly over the first few weeks, and then, it may be stable.
Avatar f tn I ended up firing my PT and physiatrist because they had no idea of how to do stroke rehabilitation. There are tremendous resources available on the web with lots of searching.

Avatar f tn My extremely healthy father had a large stroke on the left side of his brain 4 months ago. It is very gut wrenching!! I have been doing a lot of research on strokes since then and one thing I have learned is to listen to music (softly) for 1-2 hours a day. It is supposed to help with congnition. From what I have read classical music is best, but any music that your mother likes is also good.
Avatar n tn In many ways, it's helpful that he may be ambidextrous - some of those people utilize both of their halves of the brain to do certain tasks. But it's not as clearcut. The main thing is: he is making remarkable improvement and that's what's important. He should continue with rehabilitation for as long as is allowed and then outpatient rehabilitation if he's eligible. The most recovery will take place in the first 3 months or so, but you may continue to see more later.
Avatar n tn It is important to work with a team a rehabilitation team which may include the doctors, therapists and even psychologists to help deal with the emotional aspect of stroke. Complete recovery is unusual but not impossible. Support groups, local or on-line, may be of big help at this point. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn I suffered a mini stroke a few weeks ago, losing feeling in my left side. I have the feeling back in my leg but it's not 100%. Although I have major pain in my left arm which is causing me problems sleeps as the tablets I am on does seem to work as I am taking morphine as well. The part that I don't understand is that I had a MRI and they found white with black circles on my brain, can you show some light on this please what are they?
Avatar n tn My mother in law had a stroke on Saturday morning. Initially the hospital told us she wouldn't survive the enxt 24hrs... She is semi conscious, she can obey commands and spoke very briefly to my sister in law today, the first time she has spoken since Saturday. The two bleeds are believed to be from secondary brain tumours related to renal cancer. Surgery for either the bleed or the tumours is not an option as she is too poorly.
5621588 tn?1371089806 My left side of my face and left arm are still numb as well as my right leg. I also have trouble with my left eye watering and swelling in my right foot. I beg for the dizziness to go but take one day at a time. The neurologist who treated me said I was very lucky to be alive after a brain stem stroke. So I agree we are very Lucky. Please feel free to message me any questions, comments or just to talk.
