Avatar n tn Has anyone used acupuncture in treating stroke recovery? If so what has been your experience and success?
Avatar n tn Leina lives in El Paso, Tx, and I live in San Francisco, CA. Leina (47yrs) suffered a Hemorrhagic Stroke (left side) on Feb. 13, 2008, which has caused paralysis on her right side. After cranial surgery from the Hemorrhage, and an Aneurysm Coiling, Leina is now in an Adult Foster Home. She had no insurance when the stroke happened, so it's taken the family many weeks to go through MILES of SSI, Medicaid, Welfare, etc. paperwork/applications.
Avatar n tn Do you listen while still in bed, in a prone position? Do you have any trouble with fluid retention? Or perhaps you're a bit dehydrated in the morning and that changes the way the valve opens and closes. I'm just guessing here.
Avatar n tn He said that the scans don't show any cause for this to be happening and it looks like it is curving in rather than the bone thinning in that area. At this point it isn't affecting my brain, so he wants me to repeat the scans in October and come back so he can see if there are any changes. Keep in touch if you find anything out about yours. and feel free to send me a message in my inbox - I have a watch on this post and my inbox and I recieve an email whenever anyone posts to it.

1307086 tn?1285147216 Bro is in town with his wife. I am struck with this truth. While your parents can naturally give you unconditional love, your siblings must choose to do so. I thought blood was thinker than water but maybe blood is just blood. I thought DNA was a bond, but maybe it is just a trait. Ahh another of my foolish romantic beliefs goes down in flames.
Avatar m tn Nevertheless, it wouldn't be a cause for a decline in mental facility. The low heart rate is somewhat unusual unless you are in very good physical condition. It is possible and the worst case scenario is that you may have experienced TIA's (transient and tiny blood clot to the brain) or a minor stroke.
1399887 tn?1280702135 It comes on suddenly and can result in fleeting visual disturbances, the inability to speak properly, ringing in the ears, and vomiting. Throbbing occurs in the back of the head. The basilar artery migraine is strongly related to hormonal influences and primarily strikes young adult women and adolescent girls; as sufferers age, the migraine with aura may replace the basilar artery type. Good luck. Try not to panic.
Avatar f tn It is chronic and have had 2 ablations with little success. cant take medication fot it. Five years ago this November, I had a stroke. Couldn't speak. Have recovered from it. wasnt on coumadin. 1 year ago in October found out I have a glomus tumor which has taken out my hearing on my right side. Don't want surgery. MRI shows it not growing however the March MRI showed a new stroke which I didn't know I had. Went back to the language part of the brain.
Avatar n tn My son's doctor prescribed elavil which has some bad side effects as heat stroke, etc. My son is active in the summer, and I didn't really want to risk something like that happening. Thanks for any information you have to offer.
Avatar m tn They are fairly common in childhood; in the vast majority of cases, they are temporary conditions that resolve on their own. In some children, however, the tics persist over time, becoming more complex and severe. Tics may be simple (using only a few muscles or simple sounds) or complex (using many muscle groups or full words and sentences). Simple motor tics are brief, meaningless movements like eye blinking, facial grimacing, head jerks or shoulder shrugs.

Avatar m tn There is a positive correlation between high basophil counts and high conentrations of bolood histamines.' There are a list of things an increase in count may implicate and I encourage you to get another WBC with differential test run. If it still comes back high, you may want to have his primary care doctor refer him to a hematologist for further evaluation. You say your son faints alot- has he been tested for dysautonomia (dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system)?

It is not a stroke nor tumor. They don't know what it is.
Avatar f tn I'm a 31 yr old female that had an episode of aura migraine in 2008 - I had the aura with flashing lights in my right eye (first time I've ever had that) and the entire right side of my body went numb. The numbness went off after about 20 minutes. Everyone figured I was having a migraine due to meds I was taking (which have since been stopped). Since then the numbness came back back little by little and is now currently with me all the time - the intensity varies but it's always there.
773755 tn?1328123377 anyone else got severe long term voice loss with your fm? there is very little on it in forums and online, and needless to say, mainstream doctors are clueless about it let alone being able to help. my voice loss was i think initially viral, but anyway it has not really recovered after 5 months. e.n.t ruled out vocal cord damage and thyroid causes. and said he didn't know much about c.f.s - i shouldn't be surprised. so it is very depressing and isolating.
Avatar n tn Afib is more of a condition brought on by underlying heart disease, though it is not unheard of in youths. In any event, that condition can be a bit more tricky to treat because the ablation site is larger than the other svts. If however you did have afib you should be in the minimum on blood thinners to reduce your risk of having a stroke. If you are not on blood thinners than I have to assume you have one of the more treatable arryhthmias.
5121236 tn?1363899782 The theory for my sudden hearing loss was a blood clot (stroke) in the inner ear when I sneezed. Of course migraine can affect the blood vessels. Here is some great info on SHL from a well-respected neurologist specializing in dizziness and hearing. http://dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/hearing/shl.htm Among other things, Dr. Hain says: "Migraine is also associated with SHL, presumably through vascular mechanisms.
Avatar m tn My daughter is 14 and was recently diagnosed with SVT after a very scary episode in which she was short of air, sweating and having chest pain. This was not the first time it happened, just the first time we actually got an EKG that showed the problem. They started her on Atenolol but she is complaining of frequent chest pain and lethargy. The dr has talked about an ablation. Anyone have any experience with this that they could share?
Avatar n tn If you sustained a head injury as a child/adolescent with associated loss of consciousness, injury may have resulted. In addition there have been reports of brain and subarachnoid hemorrhages which have been related to the use of ecstasy and cocaine. Ecstasy can have some long lasting neurologic sequelae including, depression, anxiety, impulsive or aggressive personality disorders. It causes neuropsychiatric symptoms based on the damage it causes to the brains serotonergic neurons.
Avatar n tn Some guys strut their stuff up and down the beach. Others stroke themselves. That is boorish. If you are having problems in the locker room with unwanted erections, you must have somehow sexualized the situation. That does not mean you are gay or bi, but it does mean that you probably need to acknowledge that fact, explore it, address it and get over it. That's my two cents.
Avatar n tn She is barely walking, has chronic migraines, and numerous other uncomfortable symptoms. Her future looks bleaker every day. What's the reality for people in her situation in terms of mortality, what happens in the late stages? I have searched the internet, including this site and there is absolutely no information about causes of death in those with MS? It's as if it is a taboo topic.
Avatar m tn Feel free to ignore. It's a very springlike March here in D.C. and over the past weekend, I lost almost all my hearing in my left ear, accompanied on and off by buzzing/ambient noise, and my Monday walk to work was very much a drunken stagger (except I wasn't drunk). Back are some of the symptoms that I had suddenly in April 2010 and March 2011. All day yesterday, I had vertigo so terrible it made me nauseated and I staggered around the office like a drunk most of the time.
Avatar f tn Even walking the dog every morning makes me grateful. When I was younger I helped run the adolescent program in the Psychiatric ward at our local hospital. If you have a good relationship with an adult please tell them what you wrote here... There is help for you. You are not crazy. You are a caring friend that has let this trauma that happened your friend effect you in a powerful way. If you don't have anyone you can talk to, call 411 and ask for the Mental Health Dept. in your area.
