Avatar f tn My mother in law had a stroke back at the beginning of March. She has severe arthritis in one knee in particular and has difficulty rehabbing because the knee fills with blood due to the arthritis and she cannot get to the point of standing to do the therapy. The coumadin has left her depressed, dizzy, cold and overall loss of appetite. She wants to recover but this drug is very difficult. It comes to the point of quality of life...
Avatar m tn Can there be residual side effects of a stroke like face tingling, dizziness, jaw tightness, muscle weakness?
Avatar m tn I am a 73-year-old female, generally in very good health with low risk factors for stroke or heart disease. Past hypertension and hyperlipidemia have been well-controlled with medication for more than ten years. In April 2011 my total cholesterol was 147; LDL 84; TG 85; HDL 46. Last week I suffered a cryptogenic stroke of the left temporal cortex that presented with garbled speech and difficulty drinking from a cup. (Both symptoms have since resolved completely.
Avatar f tn I am 72. I had a mild hemorrhagic stroke in 2014. MRI revealed abnormal cerebral artery with Moyamoya-like vessels. ( Moyamoya disease has been ruled out) I suffered no effects from the stroke. For the first year, I felt slight burning sensations and quirks on the affected side in my head. These are gone and for the last 5 mo. I feel waves or flow on the affected side over my eye and across my head where this abnormality is. I have no pain. This continuous flow feeling is disturbing.

345079 tn?1299202476 Hi. I used to suffer endlessly with migraines, and they can mimic a stroke but I've never known of anyone to have a stroke as a result of a migraine. Eventually, I stopped having the pain with my migraines and it was replaced with the vision problem. My vision in both eyes would start to zig-zag and I knew I had about 10 minutes to sit down somewhere before i couldn't see to even walk.
Avatar n tn s what seems to be the case here in Portsmouth, where I live. To see the local stroke specialist dr in the stroke clinic you have to be aged 65 or over, so being aged 52 and wanting a second medical opinion on something stroke-related, i had to pay out for a private medical second opinion. As to smoking being a factor, it certainly wasn't in my case. I was just turned 51 when i had my stroke, and I've never smoked in my life.
Avatar f tn They are trying to diagnose my mother for stroke - she's already in hospital. She was in a coma, came out lucid but unable t speak or eat. Because she is aggitated,, they needed to sedate her for the brain MRI, and gave her Haldon (halperidol) 0.25mg (they say) by injection. She became a zombie, glassy eyed and unable to even blink. 30h later she was perhaps showing very tiny improvements, moving arms/legs slowly, but head barely at all. .
Avatar m tn Weakness or numbness on one side of the body does not mean that it was a Stroke. The adverse effects of Effexor overdose are- vertigo, dizziness, nausea, numbness/tingling in the hands or feet, sleepiness, rapid or slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, seizures, or coma. Since you had taken a heavy overdose and that too pills expired 5 yrs back, the adverse effects would be even worse in severity.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry to hear of the effects you're having and will keep you in prayer. I've had 2 strokes and my effects are not like yours. I will say that I use the word of God (Holy Bible) as my therapy. Counseling is an option as well. A few of my friends have been helped by seeing a Psychologist. I pray things get better please start with finding a good church home. May God Bless You.
Avatar n tn No effects from either. It is now 17 years later and I had some dizziness so I had an MRI done in March 2008. The findings from the MRI at age 18 (1992): lateral ventricles are slightly large for someone at this age 2 to 2.5 cm wedge shaped area of low density involving the right superolateral frontal cortex consistent with an infarct there. right frontal CVA with minimal mass effect The findings from MRI in March 2008...
Avatar m tn If she was having a stroke they could have given her Tpa or whatever the medication is, which can greatly reverse the bad effects from the stroke. And it would seem like a big stroke should have been detected. I would definately investigate it further. And you may need an attorney to give you the true answer as doctors tend to protect each other. Also the lack of the blood thinners is also a good question. Wish you luck in finding the real answers to your questions.
Avatar m tn Amiodarone is a drug that is extremely effective in getting the heart to beat regularly, but as claytex mentioned, it has side effects. However, danger of a stroke trumps the side effects of the drug. I went into Afib after bypass surgery and was administered Amiodarone, and it stopped the Afib within twenty-four hours. My side effects were itchy eyes from the drug, and believe me, itchy eyes was an easy trade-off from a stroke. Keep us informed.
1474053 tn?1297825738 I am wondering what to expect in the days following a stroke. I am new to this and have never seen anyone in the first few days to a week after having a stroke and just wondering what to expect? My mom (68) had a stroke on Sunday ( its now Wednesday)... her speech is slurred and she doesn't open her eyes to talk often. The doctor said its a "left sided stroke" and her left hand and leg seem to be affected...
338734 tn?1377160168 I am geno 1, a liver TP recipient (9/07), on SOC TX post TP and had an partial EVR to SOC (-2log drop in VL at 12 weeks). I have finished 49 of 72 weeks currently. Due to a stroke (TIA) a couple of days ago, my liver doc wants me to take a "drug holiday" and skip this week's Pegasys dose. I am reluctant to do this will comply. I am very worried about compromising my chances of SVR and I am not aware of anything that could link the interferon to stroke risk factors.
1127040 tn?1289718662 //www.stroke.org/en/about-stroke/effects-of-stroke/emotional-effects-of-stroke/pseudobulbar-affect This can show itself as these types of emotional outbursts. However, this is usually brief periods and you describe it going on much longer. It's been a couple of weeks since you posted this, is there any update?
Avatar m tn 90%) of intracranial segment of right ICA As you mentioned there may be a possibility of this stroke due to heart disease, because my mother undergone Angeoblast heart surgery in the year 2001 (12 yrs back) later after 2 years don't have any problems but still she is taking her tablets as per our Physician Suggestion.
Avatar n tn Stoke is listed right on their website so my thought is if it can make a stroke happen then yes, TIA would most likely be in that breakdown as well. good luck http://www.pegasys.com/patient/tools-resources/caregiver-connections/your-role/index.html PEGASYS can cause serious side effects, such as mental health problems and suicide, heart problems, stroke or symptoms of a stroke, new or worsening autoimmune problems, and infections. Some of these side effects may cause death.
Avatar m tn My mother suffered a stroke about a year ago and was put on Keppra in the hospital to help reduce her possibility of seizures. We were told that this is commonly done. She is still on Keppra per Neurologists orders to help 'protect' the brain while it is healing. Problem: side effects of Keppra seem to contradict what our goals for mom are....memory loss, mood changes, mental changes and vision changes among others.
Avatar f tn For TIA the diagnostic challenge is greater, and the ‘mimic’ rate higher (and more varied), because there is no definitive diagnostic test. TIA heralds a high risk of early ischaemic stroke, and in many cases the stroke can be prevented if the cause is identified," http://pn.bmj.
2175879 tn?1338355028 If there are residual effects beyond 24 hours the condition is classified as a stroke. Your symptoms could or could not be related to stroke etiology. Other possibilities that could account for symptoms include nutrient/ micronutrient deficiencies, stress, hormonal/ endocrine issues etc. I would suggest considering an initial evaluation by a primary care physician and depending on the cause diagnosed/ suspected, it can be managed accordingly or specialist care may be sought.
