Common Questions and Answers about Stroke causes and effects

stroke

Avatar f tn Please tell me you found out what causes this? If not, have you gotten well? I am going through a terrible time with this with no help from the doctor, but mine has advanced from what you have posted.
Avatar f tn so then what, I take another pill so I don't throw a clot and have a stroke from the AFIB? Both nodules are almost exactly the same in size, which does suggest that something happened to provoke them...IVF 7 years ago is the answer which warrants a watch and wait attitude since biopsy is negative. I still don't unerstand why, when there is a logical, medically sound explanation for the formation of the nodules, the nodules alone cannot be removed. It makes no sense to me.
Avatar m tn Could it be a consequence of the stroke even if it didn't involve the brainstem and cerebellum part of the brain? We already treated him with: baclofen, promazine, omeprazole and domperidone. We also try with acupuncture but it didn't work. He is epileptic so he also takes oxcarbazepine.
Avatar n tn This may help you, it is a link to a web page that will tell you about pills, their uses and side effects, there is a lot of good information. When you get there, type in the name of the pill that you wish to investigate in the box provided and hit return. http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/CEL1079.
Avatar f tn I do no know what the extent of yours mothers condition was as stroke effects people in many different ways and is such a complex thing. Don't beat yourself up about it, at the time you thought what you did was best, and you should keep that feeling with you, that is was the best thing. It isn't your fault that your mother had the stroke afterall.
572651 tn?1531002957 I had been getting followed and warned about possible stroke and losing my vision. I try not to dwell on my illness and at least do my business. I just cannot do it like I used to. And it takes so well to recuperate compared to the past. I am still being watched for possible neurological cancer. So far the Devic's test has been normal--yeah! I went to a celebration and charitable function at the church that evening.
Avatar f tn He is showing signs of irritability. What are the residual side effects of para embolic stroke and what can I do to help his condition and is it likely to improve? He seems to be very serious and doesn't like a lot of social activity. It is like treading on eggshells and I think I am getting more anxious.
Avatar m tn If she was having a stroke they could have given her Tpa or whatever the medication is, which can greatly reverse the bad effects from the stroke. And it would seem like a big stroke should have been detected. I would definately investigate it further. And you may need an attorney to give you the true answer as doctors tend to protect each other. Also the lack of the blood thinners is also a good question. Wish you luck in finding the real answers to your questions.

Avatar n tn I have had a few time periods where I seem to suffer more than my usual balance problems, and fall down almost daily. Are these still effects from that mysterious stroke? Signs of another coming up?
568322 tn?1370169040 TLRs are transmembrane proteins expressed by cells of the innate immune system, which recognize common structures on pathogens, known as pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), and activate signaling pathways that launch immune and inflammatory responses to destroy the invaders (see attached picture). TLR 2 and 4 interact with viruses and stimulate various pro-inflammatory and antiinflammatory cytokines.
1372757 tn?1305920171 Mental health problems (such as depression, thoughts about suicide, suicide attempts and relapse of drug abuse or drug overdose, all of which can lead to death. Other problems include thoughts of homicide or hurting other people, irritability, anxiety, aggressiveness, bipolar disorders, mania, and hallucinations) Blood problems (like a drop in blood cells leading to increased risk for infections, bleeding and/or heart or circulatory problems).
Avatar f tn Over night I have had to be reclined and have been like this ever since. I can't lay down flat, becaus it causes more bleeds. So all I can do is sit and wait until the Doctors decide it I'm going to heal on my own , or need surgery. I became depressed for the first time in my life ! I no longer had the sweet freedom to walk, and the independence we all take for granted everyday was gone. It's hard to look at tomorrow let alone next week or next year!
Avatar m tn Both anti-migraine medicines i tried at the time had negative side effects (slurring of speech, incoherent thoughts and feelings, vivid nightmares). I never determined that actual cause of the migraines, though stress was often suggested. As for my current problems. On August 19th at just after midnight, my lower right lip went numb, as though i had just received Novocaine. 30 minutes later, my whole lower lip was numb and within an hour it spread to my whole mouth, excluding my tongue.
1452335 tn?1286278818 because I could hear noise from far away and it was loud and almost like swimmers ear. I was very dizzy and when I walked I kind of leaned to the right side and my husband had to help me. My blood pressure was also very high and I was admitted to the hospital. The doctor there said that the MRI showed lesions and told me it was MS. I also heard from someone else though it could have been a stroke. How can I tell the difference? I am due to go for my first MS visit in October.
Avatar n tn Lots of complications afterwards - the surgeons cut a large vein and I had two strokes, coma, CSF leakage and I am still not doing well. Two weeks ago I started having fecal incontinence which surprised me and scared me. I do not even feel an urge to go to the bathroom. I go to urinate and find that I have already had a bowel movement. Is there anything medically that can be done to treat this?
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm probably no help to you, my stroke did not cause very drastic residual effects in me so I cannot relate to what you are going through, but I was wondering, is it possible you injured your ankle during your stroke and are not aware of it? Could you have twisted it and the swelling is due to that? When was your stroke?
Avatar n tn But I am trying to find out what kind of Dr I need to go to now or even if they can tell if it was a stroke 6 weeks after. I still have the stutter and forgetfullness. I also normally have low BP like 120/60 pulse rate normally around 70. This day my BP was 160/102 amd pulse was 150-170. I need help too if you come up with anything.
Avatar f tn I pretty much only take a bunch of ibuprofen and tylenol (650 mg). I can't tolerate most meds cause of severe side effects. Icepack on forehead and/or back of head helps, too. I live in my sunglasses and stay in bed a lot unfortunately. Sometimes I take Butalbital which helps little bit but has caffeine and makes my anxiety worse. Xanax helps some,so that may be an indicator that stress/anxiety could be causing my migraines. Yes, I have anxiety too. UGH.
Avatar n tn I had a stroke in April of 2010. I experienced dizzines and cloudy thinking, inability to make decisions. Short walks cause more dizziness. After 5 months its not any better. Would you please explain why.

Avatar m tn Skin biopsies reveal lymphocytic and eosinophilic inflammation around the hair follicles The causes of infection are mite Demodex, the yeast Pityrosporum, and bacteria An autoimmune process has also been investigated.
Avatar n tn 6 months later, an additional MRI confirmed that it was indeed a brain stem stroke. The day he had the stroke, he had first slipped on something and fallen, got up walked a ways to a restroom and after sitting down, he couldn't get back up again as his right side had gone numb. Once someone helped him to get up, he again felt ok and got up walked around, then once the ambulance laid him down to go to the hospital, his right side was paralized again, not to return without extensive therapy.
Avatar n tn I had a stroke last year on october 29 th. it was ischa a ischemic stroke and caused the paralysis of left hand and left leg. through rehab I have recovered almost 80 %. but lately. muscle spaticity of left upper limb is really bothering me. is there any treatment for it. what diagnostic test are there to dtect the reason of muscle spasms and what treatment with minimum side effects are available.
Avatar n tn I am 25 years-old and from Michigan, and I was told that I had a stroke from hypertension. But I don't seem to have any after effects. They put me on high blood pressure medication and that is it. Could my doctors be wrong?
Avatar n tn I recommend keeping a journal of events-- then you can look back for patterns. A stroke can mess up ways of processing information, of communicating. The stroke person and the significant others need to learn to communicate anew which can be done with good humor and attention. My mother can't get pronouns right...so we've joined her in screwing them up and we now rely on context more than precision of language.
Avatar n tn If you have some kind of clotting problem that causes you to form clots (and contributed to your strokes) then possibly it wouldn't be a good idea--but your doctor knows best. Regardless, if you are sitting for any period of time, whether on a plane or during a long car trip, try to move your legs/flex your feet, get up and walk around in order to keep the blood flowing so it doesn't have a chance to pool and form clots. That's a good idea for anyone to do.
Avatar n tn Today, 24 hours later, she seems to have almost completely recovered and has most of her function back. What are the long-term effects of a stroke of this kind? And have any of you experienced or heard of this kind of recovery? We are extremely close to these people and want to do everything we can to help them recover. What can they expect moving forward?
Avatar n tn I also know what you mean about the anti-convulsants and side effects. I take Klonopin for mine 10 MG a day 2 MG five times a day. and also for the chronic pain 8-Ultram a day and 6-8[30 mg] of Codiene a day. I tried 300 MG of Tegratol and found myself in la-la land. I was almost hallucinating. There was no-way of working like that. That was before I tried the other stuff now except the Klonopin which I have been on for over one year.
Avatar n tn I have antiphospholipid syndrome which causes your blood to clot too much and puts you at a high risk for miscarriage and stroke during pregnancy. I believe because of hormone levels when your pregnant your at an even higher risk than any other time. Maybe some of you can be checked for this its a simple blood test. I was told certain blood thinners can be taken during pregnancy. Something to research.
