Common Questions and Answers about Stroke after childbirth

stroke

Avatar n tn If you experience any headaches or facial numbness I would go to the emergency room immediately. I know after one of my friends delivered her child she had a stroke. When the headaches began she just ignored them. It has now taken her almost 4yrs and she is still not back to where she was prior to the delivery. So, just be aware and certainly be your own advocate!
Avatar n tn I had a stroke when I was 29...2 weeks after I gave birth to my first child. I had a bilateral carotid dissection. I am now 33 and am thinking about having another child, but none of my doctors know for sure why I had a stroke in the first place. Both my ob and neurologist think that I should be fine, but they really have never seen this before. I keep looking for other opinions....and suggestions? Anyone out there that had a baby after a stroke?
Avatar n tn I had a massive stroke in April 2002, 2 weeks after I gave birth. Also, through lots of therapy and motivation of my newborn...I too have no residuals. I had a bilateral carotid dissection. I am now 35 and 6 wks. pregnant! I've always wanted to have more kids and my doctors said that I should be fine...we shall see. I am on 2 shots lovenox a day and being monitored closely. What do your docs think?
Avatar f tn I was given a head CT and it initially showed a bleed in the brain stem, they told me I had a stroke and I was lucky to be alive. I was admitted to the ICU and scheduled to be evaluated by the Neurologist and Neurosurgeon the next morning, as well have a MRI and MRA. That was done and they then determined that it was a calcification on the brain stem and NOT a stroke.
Avatar n tn The doctor was stumped. She said it was like I was having pre-eclampsia but after the fact. I had significant problems after the birth of my children. I had to have my gallbladder removed two months later. Then, surgery for rectal prolapse. Surgery for endometriosis. Finally, thyroid disease was diagnosed. I had Graves' disease or overactive thyroid caused by an autoimmune disorder.
1344197 tn?1392822771 Hysterectomy for benign, non cancerous, indications is one of the commonest surgical procedures in women, but the association between the procedure and the increase risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), heart attack and stroke is not fully understood. Hysterectomy has traditionally been considered the method of choice for treating a variety of benign, non-cancerous, gynecological disorders due to the low surgical complication rate and definite cure of these diseases.
Avatar n tn after my hysterectomy at 45yrs old I am gaining weight fast...never had mood swings or sweats...taking no harmones..does anything help?Trying all over the counter pills and etc. nothing working...HELP!!
Avatar m tn I have had this problem for a while. ever since i had my baby last year. i don't feel sexy after the baby and the c section. but he wants sex. he says he is so horny he gets "blue balls" so he watches porn and takes care if it. now that i've found that out i feel even more unwanted. so when we do have sex i feel sad and detached from him. and after i just feel empty. i dont know if its him or me.
381667 tn?1200467450 When you lose a baby it is not your first instinct to pull out a list of appropriate questions to ask after childbirth and when you are home you are in such a numb state that you don't kinow where to turn. You speak of lacking commonsense, perhaps you should review your own lack of heart. All that aside, apologies for the extra long post but it has been therapeutic to reach inside myself, past the pain, and analyse what I am feeling.

Avatar n tn Yeah I`ve had a lot of other women email me about having problems after childbirth. That helped me cope with things and realize I probably didn`t have some terrible sickness!
3917844 tn?1348597239 Three years ago I suffered a stroke. Due to my stroke I was told that birth control or extra estrogen could promote another stroke so I elected to have my fallopian tubes removed as to not have to worry about birth control. I didn't notice any significant change, just a couple of added lbs but that was it. This however has had a significant impact on me and I'm trying to understand why. Am I being ridiculous or overly emotional?
Avatar n tn I had my gallbladder removed in 1995 after some extremely severe episodes where my pain was so bad my BP shot up so high the Dr. thought I was going to die from a heart attack or stroke. I had a nuclear medicine study as well as other tests and it was confirmed as gallbladder disease and was so severe that I MUST have it removed or risk dying. So, I had it removed laparascopically in July of 1995. Since then I've continued to have similar symptoms, but without the rise in my blood pressure.
Avatar n tn I'm 23 and 3b months postpartum with my first son. I am still bleeding from childbirth and have gotten the Depo shot about a month ago to try to stop the bleeding. I also have a non-hormonal IUD for birth control. The shot gave me symptoms of ppd so I'm not to take it again for the bleeding. Anyway, my problem is that the last few nights, my legs will jerk involuntary, like I'm running but I'm laying down.
Avatar f tn Once upon a time, when I was 31, I had a stroke in my research lab. No, it wasn't a stroke, it was a hemiplegic migraine. No, wait, it was a Transient Ischemic Attack. It was related to taking birth control pills. No, that had nothing to do with it. Are you confused yet? I was, because so were my doctors back in 1991.
Avatar n tn Back in December, I had 2 episodes that led me to the hospital, and ultimately, was diagnosed with a PE. After further testing, there was nothing revealed that showed the cause. I was therapeutic on Coumadin when I had another episode which revealed another PE about a month later. As far as I know, they have run every known test which all come back negative. Every scan that has been run reveal no DVT.
480448 tn?1426952138 Yes, today is a good day to become a better person. Right after I tend to this stroke. More horrid sounds, another wake-up call, I’m getting angry. Why does she do this to me EVERY blasted morning? Every day the SAME thing, the same struggle. “I don’t WANT to go to school, I am TIRED”, she’ll proclaim. HA! SHE is tired! I have been up for fifty minutes now.
1380526 tn?1292842985 My niece is 37 and now had a small stroke after childbirth and has similar white matter changes on MRI. We are having her tested, as this is a genetic disease. They also told her after an MRI and LP that she had MS, just like my brother. Then after the LP they told her she didn't have MS, but her MRI had white matter disease. Too much similarity between MS and Cadasil.
Avatar n tn I have had my dealing with Tricare....my mother-n-law was in a nursing home after a stroke almost three years ago and I am still waiting for them to pay... Anyway, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope it happens soon so you can have some normal food.
Avatar f tn Are you aware that you are at risk for a stroke? Sheehan's syndrome in childbirth? You need a neuro-endocrinologist, not just any endocrinologist. A regular MRI should be OK - there is no radiation in an MRI, but the contrast may be a no-no. Normal pit patients would be high risk - but since you have apoplexy, I would make sure you get extra care - you risk losing a lot of hormones. It may not happen, but you need to take care. As well, what testing as been done to date?
199882 tn?1310188142 I had a stroke. They tell me that people with MS are likely to develop blod clots, and I did. So, that's what cause it. I have been in rehab and I'm doing pretty good right now. Thank God it was'nt very severe. I lost a little on the right side. I'm still very awkward with my right hand but at least I can use it a little now. I'm still questioning weather the low dose naltrexone may have had something to do with it. Nobody will answer me.
Avatar n tn I can tell you that I have met many woman online who have had health issues after giving childbirth. I hope that you will stick around... I know one woman who is getting treated this time for her postpartum health issues. She doesn't have a diagnosis, but is getting treated.
3197167 tn?1348972206 Music therapy is increasingly used in hospitals to reduce the need for medication during childbirth, to decrease postoperative pain and complement the use of anesthesia during surgery. There are several theories about how music positively affects perceived pain: 1. Music serves as a distractor 2. Music may give the patient a sense of control 3. Music causes the body to release endorphins to counteract pain 4.

Avatar n tn Hi I had some neurological problems 7 mos. ago after the birth of my baby. I began having problems 2 weeks after she was born. I had tingling, numbness, twitching, cramping. I went to a neurologist after this all started. He performed an MRI of brain and C-Spine in about 0ctober `02. He also performed a NCT which was essentially normal, bloodwork-normal. I`m still experiencing a lot of these problems. I was under a lot of stress after my baby was born. So I`m curious...
