Avatar f tn The sensitivity of alarms may vary from one installation to another and ratings continue to increase due to increased risk. After a Thallium Stress test, with the alarm sensitivity rating at the White House, an individual continued to set of the alarm for 30 days Your high security building may have the same rating. It can/will remain in your system for about 71 days.
512736 tn?1211343352 d CAD is greatly increased by performing a nuclear perfusion study in conjunction with the stress test. A radioactive substance called thallium (or a similar substance called sestamibi or Cardiolite) is injected into a vein during exercise. The thallium collects in the parts of the heart that have good blood flow. Pictures of the heart are taken with a special camera that can image the radioactivity of the thallium.
Avatar m tn I just had the Stress Echo Test and my doctor states I passed the test, however, he saw something with the EKG and recommended a Thallium Stress Test. I run 6 days a week and lift light weights daily. Sometimes, I run twice a day, once in the morning and a 15 minute hill burner on the treamill in the evening. I have always run since the age of 18 years. Nver shortness of breath, I am now 57 years old and 166 llbs.

His resting ECG showed 0.
Avatar m tn Pointman, I had a thallium stress test last week and there was no blood testing that preceded the test to determine if I was able to take it. If we're talking about the same test, they put an IV in you, inject you with thallium, put you under a gamma camera so they can take pictures of your heart at rest. Then you go to the treadmill where they get you up to a defined heart rate, inject you with more thallium, and it's back under the camera.
1016145 tn?1253498064 There are many names for this same thing. Nuclear perfusion test, nuclear stress test, thallium stress test, thallium scan etc etc. Maybe they should standardise on the name to make it less confusing.
Avatar m tn since 2 years he has been experiencing BREATHLESSSNESS,at certain times. His THALLIUM STRESS TEST was done to rule out any heart problems, like blocks etc.The test results were good, with EF at 65 or so.but he still has the problem. We are confused what is causing the breathlessness. Some doctors say, thallium stress test is good enough, and we need not go for angiograpjy. We are confused what we should do.pls advise.
Avatar f tn The doctor said the ekg and echo looked good, but that the stress test was positive and I need a thallium stress test now. My cholestrol and triglycerides are great. During the stress test, I had a minor chest pain, and am wondering if that is why he wants a thallium stress test now. I really don't want to be exposed to radiation. Can the incline training bring on a heart problem?
Avatar n tn I recently had an abnormal thallium test showing inferior-apical ischemia. Calcium score was zero. My cardiologist considers the thallium test a false positive. I also have an unrelated arrythmia (pvc's) for the past 10 years controlled with atenolol. I am considered high risk for cardiac cath due to the arrythmia. In addition I have mild plaque in both carotid arteries.
Avatar f tn I have uncontrolled hypertension and began having nagging ache in my left arm, and occasional pain in my upper back, and ocaasional discomfort in my chest...so I had a thallium stress test...during the period in the test when they sent me home for a couple of hours and told me to return later, I had severe pain in both arms, was nauseated, and slept until time to go back...i told them about it, but they were not concerned...when i got the reults of the test, it wa normal...
Avatar n tn I had a thalium stress test yesterday...I have a ten month old child at home..how long before the radiation leaves my body so I know it is safe to handle my child...I work in a hospital and radiation silent alarm went off today so Im assuming its still pretty high. I had the test at 1pm yesterday...is it s still very strong and should I be worried about exposing it to my family?? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/251941'>Thalium</a>.
Avatar m tn Hi, I can give you some insight into the thallium stress test from my own experience, and from what I have been told by various Cardiologists here in the UK. In 2007 I had a heart attack followed by emergency stenting. When they were inside my coronary arteries looking around, they were shocked at the state of them and the Cardiologist actually said "I'm shocked that you have survived so long". He found the blockage causing the heart attack and stented it.
Avatar m tn the dubotomine stress test prior to the stenting said it showed positive for ischemia affecting heart wall in three places. EF was 70.19%. What was notable about this test was that I am perfectly normal at low and medium dose of the dubotamine. Maybe I should lust live like that - low and medium pulse? All the grim looking stats came at high dose with pulse at 120. That's high for an 81-year-old? It would take me a fair sprint along the road to get it up to that level.
Avatar n tn ECG/EKGs are good to get, however; the littlest movement or connection problem can produce inaccurate readings. I have seen patients come in with abnormal EKGs and the next one was normal. (I am also an EKG tech). Your question with radiation: with having a 'thallium' stress test, you will receive more radiation exposure with the stress test vs. the CT. The CT camera gives off radiation. In the NucMed, the injections of thallium will produce the radiation (not the gamma camera itself).
Avatar n tn I also had a stress test this week. and like you, I had a Thallium test as there is a national shortage of myoview. Any strong headache should be reported to your doctor, and at the same time, several aspirin tablets should be ingested. That being said, I'm betting you were told not to have any beta blockers, in my case no slow-release nitro pills, and certainly no caffeine. Withdrawing from these products all could result in a headache.
Avatar f tn I recently had a Thallium stress test which came back positive. The sets of images were taken by two different techs while I sat upright in a chair. Not wanting to believe the worst, I went to another Cardiologist. There I had the Cardiolite test, images taken by the same tech while I lay on a table. Those results came back negative. So who is right? Would having a calcium-score CT and perhaps a carotid ultrasound be the tie-breaker? I am 55 years old, post menopausal.
Avatar n tn Sorry no one answers your questions on here with any real info. I have some for you, I was told post stress test thallium will not harm anyone around you. No stress test is 500msv. That is 50 rads...youd be in big trouble fast. From what I have gathered, a stress test is 15-20msv, or 1500-2000mrem. A healthcare or radiation worker limit is 5000mrem PER YEAR. (It used to be 25,000mrem in the 60's) Ive had 4 stress tests and a few Ct scan and I am 38. Had chest pain and palps for years.
Avatar m tn ve had three over the last 6 years, and one a few years before that when the test was called a thallium stress test...it is nuclear too, but it seems thallium is no longer used. I have no known side-effects and I have gotten two false positives. The latest one that gave this was about 2 years ago, and so I underwent a catheter study and there were no blocks. I think the bottom line is, if the nuclear stress test says you do not have blockage, you most likely don't.
Avatar m tn I started having chest pains about 2 months ago.On the left side of the chest. The pains are mild but frequent. I was diagnosed with high bp and cholesterol. Physical exertion did not seem to trigger or intensify these pains. Last week I had a positive thallium stress test with 'stress induced ischemia'. Upon receiving these results my doctors office called me and told me to go straight to an ER.
