Common Questions and Answers about Stress test radiation

Avatar n tn I had a thalium stress test yesterday...I have a ten month old child at home..how long before the radiation leaves my body so I know it is safe to handle my child...I work in a hospital and radiation silent alarm went off today so Im assuming its still pretty high. I had the test at 1pm yesterday...is it s still very strong and should I be worried about exposing it to my family?? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/251941'>Thalium</a>.
Avatar m tn I have no symptoms of heart problems, but I have a family history of heart disease. Is a nuclear stress test advisable or is there another test that would be more appropriate given the fact that I'm asymptomatic. I understand that the radiation exposure in a nuclear stress test is 250 times that of a chest xray. I'm concerned about the risk of exposure to that level of radiation given the fact that I have no signs of heart problems at this point.
Avatar m tn ca/content/early/2011/02/07/cmaj.100463.abstract) I hear the radiation from a single thallium stress test is equivalent to 1200 chest xrays. Don't you think that is very dangerous for our blood cells? Anybody with adverse effects? As you all know it takes five years for solid cancers to develop and at least two years for blood disorders after radiation exposure.

Avatar f tn The cardiologist put me on a 24 hour portable EKG machine to monitor the palpitations and prescribed a Echocardiogram and Nuclear Stress Test to be done the same week. I got both of them done last week. He said the echo looked fine, but the EKG under stress was abnormal. The pictures taken after the treadmill walk apparently also showed that some part (about 10%) of my heart was not receiving enough blood.
Avatar n tn My primary doctor did a plain stress test and resting echocardiogram, and a chest xray. everything was normal. I decided to go to a cardiologist on my own, and he listened to me for about 4 minutes tops, barely checked my heart sounds, and instantly ordered a barrage of tests including Nuclear stress. I was alot more interested in a cardiac CTA. My question is basically this...
Avatar m tn Yes, it is called a stress echo test. You can google it and get more data. It is basically an echocardiogram done before and after the stress test. However, my understanding is that if you have known ischemic heart disease that the nuclear stress test is indicated. My wife has a stress echo scheduled in a couple of weeks.
Avatar f tn I took a nuclear stress test, but the Myoview dose is higher than recommended, with 38.5mCi for stress and 11 mCi for rest. How much radiation will these translate into and is it safe? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I assume this was a nuclear stress test with cardiolite or thallium? More likely the chemical carrying the radioisotope was to blame. People who have a reaction to CT scans are usually sensitive to the contrast dye -- I think that's relatively common, but it's a different substance than the tracer in a stress test. I would talk to a radiologist or CT technician about whether people who are sensitive to one are more likely to react to the other.
Avatar n tn s electrical activity before, during and after exercise. However, technically speaking, a stress test is any test that is performed in conjunction with exercise. So, a nuclear stress test usually refers to stress testing that is performed in combination with a nuclear imaging test, such as SPECT scan or a PET scan. In general, a nuclear stress test is more accurate and provides more information than a standard exercise EKG. However, these tests do have drawbacks.
Avatar n tn Went to a cardiologist who did nuclear stress test which came out negative (i did not walk for 15 minutes which is when my pain would normally start). With that he gave me a clean bill of health and i was somewhat satisfied. About six months ago, that pain changed into chest pain with excercise. Went to cardiologist who did another nuclear stress test which came back negative again.
Avatar n tn The nuclear stress test or a catheterization both have lower radiation exposure. I am not sure that you should have any of those tests, however. Your symptoms are quite atypical and I don't think that they are related to significant coronary artery disease. The fact that your exercise stress test was normal is very encouraging. I have not found CTA's to be at all useful. There are many artifacts related to patient's movement, poor technique or coronary wall calcification.
Avatar n tn the radiation would play a big part in your levels......one being radiation and two...being the stress of it all. I would suggest you get yr FT3, FT4 & TSH done to see if you need an increase in Synthroid. I think you may find you need an increase in your meds but dont increase until youve had a thyroid function test done again and make sure it is the FREE T's that are done and not the normal T's. All the best .
Avatar f tn The doctor said the ekg and echo looked good, but that the stress test was positive and I need a thallium stress test now. My cholestrol and triglycerides are great. During the stress test, I had a minor chest pain, and am wondering if that is why he wants a thallium stress test now. I really don't want to be exposed to radiation. Can the incline training bring on a heart problem?
Avatar n tn The most common tracer used during stress test only has a 6 hour half life. I would not be worried because the amount of radiation that your son was exposed to was minimal. It is not like being pregnant or having a newborn around you. If that were the case, then either the test should have been postponed or you would have been told to keep your distance for a few hours depending on the length of time your test took.
968809 tn?1288656910 My ablation was for WPW, not PV, but I did have a CT Scan just prior to the ablation and like you, I was concerned about radiation exposure. I had also recently had a Thallium stress test and was scheduled the next day for an ablation, with yet more radiation exposure.
1491262 tn?1288413065 my husband just had a nuclear stress test he has to go back to the dr. Wednesday , they said he had some blockage and they saw a place on his heart they want to check out he has had triple bypass and had a heart attack last year . they want to do some kind of dye test now what could this mean ? and what might the dr. do im trying to understand all of this .
Avatar m tn In the last few months I had upper GI and small bowel series, nuclear stress test, CT scan..all in pursuit of trying to figure out these flutters and nsvt. now I'm reading today how these test expose to fairly high doses of radiation. Now the dr wants to do EP study which I'm reading is even more exposure to radiation. Any one have thoughts on this? I just saw this article today: http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?
Avatar n tn 7mci of techtium-99 sestamibi after treadmill and took scans. The second test was done in February of 2009. I’m not sure which material was used in that test but plan on finding out from the office where it was done. My question is have I exposed myself to dangerously high levels of radiation. I’ve read multiple articles on the web and can’t figure out how much potential exposure I’ve had. Some sources say 500 mrem and some say as high as 2500mrem. I would appreciate if someone can help answer.
Avatar f tn My guess would be that maybe you are stressed out and stress is a big reason for delay in menstural peroids! I woud wait a few days and test agian with FMU!! I will also keep your husaband in my thoughts and prayers!!!
