Depression is not normally treated with opiates, but rather with antidepressants, which are specifically formulated
for that purpose, and are nto addictive ( although patients may experience discontinuation syndrome, and therefore need to be tapered off them if they discontinue them).
Opiates, on the other hand, are intended to treat moderate to severe pain.
