I don't think I'd do a nuclear stress test for my primary care doctor. He's a pretty sharp kid, but I'd have to say totally unqualified in the nuclear stress test area. From the experience I've had with these tests, I would doubt that a PCP would even have access to the needed equipment.
They ran echo, ekg, Ct of chest and nuclear stress. The images in the nuclear stress test did not match. The Dr said that they isotopes did not go to the front of my chest but he did not know why. He said it did not show a blockage. He told me to go home, take it easy and follow up in his office in a few weeks. He said he was unsettled that it they did not match. I am at a loss, leaving the hospital with chest pain and an abnormal nuclear stress test is unsettleing. Any advice or thoughts?
s to be sure so he ordered a nuclear Med stress test. I have looked it up online and found out that the medicine/dye they put into to you to better see the heart is somewhat radioactive. Supposedely safe (about only 40% of the safe amount for a human being or basically the same as many xrays) but I'm a bit aprehensive about putting ANYTHING radioactive in my blood stream. I am having thoughts about just telling them to give me the holter monitor and cancel the stress test.
Yes, it is ture, I believe the satistics is about 20% for false positives. There are a number of reasons why this can happen. The problem is that this phenomenon is very common.

It is important to remember that each test looks at different things, I mean, what would be the point of 3 tests if they look for the same thing. When you have abnormal ECG and or stress test, a nuclear scan is important to establish whether you have any necrosis (dead heart muscle). If the nuclear scan revealed that a section of heart muscle has died, then bypass or stenting is a waste of time because the blood won't be of any benefit.
Just went for a stress test and It came back positive for slow blood flow thru heart. They scheduled me for a nuclear stree test next week is this really necessary? The only sympton I have is some chest pain once in a while. complete exhaustion, headaches,feeling like I have no energy. Could this be all tied in.
the dubotomine stress test prior to the stenting said it showed positive for ischemia affecting heart wall in three places. EF was 70.19%.
What was notable about this test was that I am perfectly normal at low and medium dose of the dubotamine. Maybe I should lust live like that - low and medium pulse? All the grim looking stats came at high dose with pulse at 120. That's high for an 81-year-old? It would take me a fair sprint along the road to get it up to that level.
I have no symptoms of heart problems, but I have a family history of heart disease. Is a nuclear stress test advisable or is there another test that would be more appropriate given the fact that I'm asymptomatic. I understand that the radiation exposure in a nuclear stress test is 250 times that of a chest xray. A MUGA and a nuclear medicine stress test (perfusion) are both done by nuclear medicine technologists, but they are different tests. The MUGA stands for multi-gated acquisition; whereas the stress test measures the uptake of the radiotracer of your heart muscle both during rest and stress, then compares the two.
My nuclear stress test results were as follows ver batim. I do not know what it means, are the results acceptable, good very good etc. What does this say about the blood flow to the heart muscle ?

Iv taken a few Nuclear stress tests - in the past I can remember you cant eat anything
or drink but water - I was also taken off my meds for 24 hrs before the test .
It might be good to call the appointment center or doctors office and tell them -
if im not too late at this ! pretty sure it will mess up your test. though some scan tests
you can eat peanut butter ? guess it makes the dye show up better in the vains ?
I never liked these tests ! as dyes in vains - so on..
I wonder why you had a stress test, some symptom trigger it? In my case I asked for a stress test to get a better number on what my maximum exercise HR should be. This lead to lots of additional nuclear and other tests because I couldn't pass the stress test when I in fact didn't have the main problem it checks for.
Sorry if I wander... bottom line, see a cardiologist but if you don't have any serious symptoms I think you should think positive, nothing is wrong.

The stress test was stopped while monitoring your system and that almost always indicates there is evidence of ischemia (lack of adequate blood flow) and may be the result of vessel occlusion, and sometime it is evidence of an old heart attack The test is not very reliable for the conditions named, however, it is considered unsafe to continue without the possibility of injury. If you felt a little pressure in the chest that would be additional evidence for some blockage.
I recently had a nuclear stress test with imaging and while recovering and resting on the the table my HR was coming down from 180 during Bruce level 5 to 110 and that is when my symptoms appeared. I started having PVC's here and there then bigeminy,trigeminy, couplets and as many as four to five PVC's in a row. Of course I could feel them and this lasted for 10 minutes. No intervention done at the time. No change in BP either.
