Stress test after bypass surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Stress test after bypass surgery

stress-test

Avatar m tn The doctor referred to it as an extra heartbeat, which apparently is a PVC. He ordered a stress test on me (I had one done a year ago and it was fine). He said this time the stress test came back somewhere in the middle. Not bad, not great so he wants to do an Angiogram to find out why I am experiencing this arrhythmia. He scared me because he spoke of blockages and surgery and all that. Of course he also said that it may come up clean and the arrhythmia is not related to a blockage.
242440 tn?1264519844 I am 42 and had double bypass of my LAD about 10 months ago. They used one mammary and a radial to do the bypass. My problem before bypass is that I had 5 stents (4 in the LAD and one under the 4 to close the gaps and reopen them after restenosis), but apparently I develop scar tissue or block up pretty agressively. Based on my symptoms, my cardiologist had me come in for an echo stress test.
862553 tn?1239060736 Of course i had the ct with my heart at rest before the stress test and then after the stress test... But am wondering what you would think is possibly going on. My maternal grandfather died because his heart actually exploded and my father himself has had bypass surgery... so there is a hitory in our family all my sibling's take meds for high blood pressure and one sister takes heart medication already ... Could you please let me knwo what your thgouhts are on this ...
242440 tn?1264519844 m back to going to bed every night at about 7pm again so who knows. I have to get another stress test soon - hopefully it will show all is okay. And I was on such a roll and feeling so much better for a little while.
1491262 tn?1288413065 my husband just had a nuclear stress test he has to go back to the dr. Wednesday , they said he had some blockage and they saw a place on his heart they want to check out he has had triple bypass and had a heart attack last year . they want to do some kind of dye test now what could this mean ? and what might the dr. do im trying to understand all of this .
Avatar f tn From what you describe, his doctors suggest coronary artery bypass grafting surgery rather than angioplasty or stents. Studies have shown that this bypass grafting is a better option for overall survival than stents when multiple coronary arteries are involved. Without known the full details of your father's coronary artery disease, it is difficult to say if there is a role for another non- surgical option such as management with medication or stenting.
Avatar f tn Have you guys had a stress test so soon after CABG? My husband's new cardiologist recommended this and he said that he's not up to it. And Ed, if you're reading this, the doc also prescribed an echocardiogram - do you know if this is even worth it and what would it show? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn They do not know why. Every stress test I have ever had either before or after the bypass has always come back excellent and I had one 6 mos before my bypass. I just want to be normal again.
920737 tn?1250348210 I had a heart attack in 1998, followed over the years by three stents, an atherectomy, a cardiac ablation, and 12 other catheterizations. I had a five-way bypass surgery in January of this year - relatively uneventful. Unfortunately, I've developed anginal-like symptoms again just recently. My doc. wants to do a stress echo, which sounds reasonable.
Avatar n tn As long as the pain is getting less, it is going the right direction. It is basically a year long recovery process after an open heart surgery. IT takes longer the older a person is. If you find it is getting WORSE, talk to your surgeon. Maybe some physical therapy would help some. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Usually, reversable ischemia is an expression as a result of a stress test.. During a stress test, a radioisotope (named thallium or sestamibi) is injected at rest and images are obtained of blood flow to the heart muscle. Then, the same injection and images are obtained just after maximum exercise. The rest and exercise images are directly compared to determine if an area that has good blood supply at rest has a reduction in blood supply at peak exercise.
Avatar m tn Stenting is sometimes done after bypass surgery, to reopen occluded bypass conduits or reopen coronary artery blockages that have formed since surgery. Bypass surgery will not stop the disease developing, that is down to lifestyle changes including avoiding as much stress as possible. You need to just take notice of your body, as you knew this time when something wasn't quite right.
4687721 tn?1358033417 So I am booked in for a Stress Test on 25th Jan, and an Ecko ECG on 11th March. That is a fair way off , but I will wake my post up when I have some results. I actually feel quite good and have more pain from my Circulation problems in my feet, but I will air that one one a separate post. I hope my ramblings make sense to somebody out there.
Avatar n tn Concerned from stress test 4 months after stress test getting arm pains. Going in for tests but an concerned something isn't right. I am always tired in a short amount of time..... Avatar f tn Is he eating a healthy diet? Is he on the right medication? Usually after bypass surgery you would attend rehab, where they hold education classes and run exercise groups. In these classes the patients are made fully aware of heart disease, causes and how to lower your risk factors.
Avatar m tn After a nuclear stress test ordered by my GP, I was referred to a Cardiologist who advised that I needed to have a heart catherization done. He explained that the procedure would uncover and pinpoint any existing coronary artery problems. He also explained that, when problems/blockages are diagnosed, 25% of his patients needed bypass surgery, another 25% needed angioplasty, stents, or both, and the remaining 50% could be treated with medications.
Avatar n tn It does seem very odd that they decided on a bypass operation and now they want to do a stress test. If you decide bypass is the best option, then all other tests should have previously been done to back this up. A bypass can last much longer than 10 years if they use the arteries from the chest, the Left internal mammary artery and the right. These last the natural life of the patient.
Avatar n tn s why they are doing the cath. I have no blockages yet have EF 17% and stress test images show severe damage and restricted perfusion. If it is a blockage, and they can stent it, you should be pretty much back to "normal" shortly after. Disclaimer: I am NOT a doctor. Do not rely on my opinion or advise. Consult a licensed professional. Batteries not included. Some assembly required. Oh, and just for fun, ask your cardiologist if his work comes with a lifetime warranty!
Avatar f tn test with myocardial perfusion imaging revealed mild to moderate ischemia involving the basal anterior septum and mid anterior septal walls. He is status post recent (4/7/08) four-vessel bypass graft with a LIMA to the LAD. My husband has been labeled a walking piece of plaque by his cardiologist. With his open-heart surgery being so recent, with him being diabetic, and he has never had any symptoms of his illness - should this recent test be looked into further by your opinion?
Avatar f tn My husband is 66 and recently had a SPECT Myocardial Perfusion Imaging Study (stress test). It was essentially normal, with the exception of the following: "there is a moderate sized reversible defect of the inferior and apical walls". The left ventricle was normal in size and the ejection fractions were 57% at rest and 63% post stress. The internet resources suggest that such a defect could be indicative of a prior silent heart attack. Is this true?
Avatar m tn My husband had a By pass x 2 on pump . His recovery was 'perfect'! It is 3 months now and the cardiologist says it is great. However walking up stairs at home or having to get up fat and walk 5 steps to get the phone or go to the front door he id extremely Breathless. Slow walking a distance no problem. He had a lung test and was told he had 68% capacity for his age etc. He is getting very depressed and down about the breathing not getting any better. What could have caused this.
Avatar m tn for 2 weeks he was given morphine for chest pain while waiting for the plavix numbers to drop. after having heart bypass surgery, he was telling me stories that immigration was there looking for people. he is in the CTU . While in step down, he was telling me things like OSHA was there. now he is in his own room and he was telling me the guy next door broke all the glass in the closets.while he was in the step down unit.
Avatar m tn Five days ago my father in law had a quadruple bypass . Today he was diagnosed with " Congestive Heart Failure " Is this normal after a bypass surgery ? If it is common , does it usually get better . I don't really understand the severity of this condition . Any help would be appreciated .
Avatar m tn Every medical test has false negatives because neither humans nor machines operate with 100% accuracy. However you are in very serious jeopardy whenever you receive a false negative result on a Cardiolite stress tests. That's because of an astonishing fact about cardiologists in the U.
Avatar m tn how often should I have cardiograph or stress test after bypass surgery it has now been 7 years.
