Avatar f tn Your bird may also be very afraid of your dogs for a long time or forever. It is best to keep them separated at all times and to provide extra attention and behavioral nourishment to try to help your bird get over the traumatic experience.
1711940 tn?1308352692 Is it ok to give a dog Clonapin to relieve stress from thunderstorms and if so how much for a 60 vlb dog? Is there anything else I can do to relieve her stress when there are thunderstorms. She shakes, pants and drools.
Avatar f tn Oh bobbe, I am so very sorry. I lost my dog Chica in early January to kidney failure too. Yes, dialysis can done on dogs, but it's very expensive and the equipment isn't available at a typical vet's clinic. The effects don't last long either - by the time the dog is in end-stage failure, you'd be looking at daily dialysis so the dog would still have no quality of life. I think your vet was absolutely truthful with you about assuming brain damage at that point.
Avatar n tn As far as I'm aware, benadry is safe for quite a long time in dogs. The general doggy dosage is 1 mg/ per pound, so that's what your vet has prescribed - most people tend to go too low on the dosage. Using it for only the summer months should be no problem at all. I had a dog who needed it a good 8 months or more of every year and it never caused any trouble. Hope it works well for your Bostie!
Avatar f tn Can dogs sense labour is coming? My dogs been like a bloody shadow tonight locking my belly and following me everywhere....

These, especially if cooked can cause really serious blockages and internal damage (and expensive) veterinary emergencies. To be on the safe side don't even give dogs raw chicken or turkey bones. Even raw turkey necks or chicken necks can often cause horrible blockages.
Avatar f tn Only a doctor's exam, if anything, will tell you if the head rush and dizziness are something physical or not. Stress isn't the same thing as anxiety. Everyone goes through more and less stressful periods of time. Anxiety is a problem when it's chronic, and you seem to be describing a chronic insecurity and fear.
Avatar f tn I agree, better just ask your doctor, he's not going to give you hardly anything for a list my doctor isn't too worried about deli meats, hot dogs, tuna, etc, it's all more or a precaution than it is a strict rule, ya know? You'll be fine!
Avatar m tn Hi Loren! I worked with dogs in clinics for 10 years, and there isn't much I haven't seen, behavior-wise. By a long shot, my favorite is the Golden Retreiver. Research good breeders, ask for vet-info on the parents of the puppy, and even better if the pup is papered - that shows a breeder's good-standing with the AKC, even if you never show the dog. When you go to se/pick up your pup for the first time, LOOK at the property - is it well-kept?

Avatar m tn congratulations on 16 days...sorry you lost your partner....but he/she is smiling down on you today...and sending you love from heaven above...and the great thing about dogs is you can tell them anything..everything and they don't blab ....you've got a friend in bama.
Avatar n tn Hi, Please bring your senior dog to the vet for bloodwork. The symptoms you have mentioned, along with the dogs age, remind me of the same thing that my 15 year old yorkie was doing. She was diagnosed with kidney disease. Decreased appetite and trembling are both signs of kidney failure. Your dog may or may not have kidney issues, but the trembling, (shaking) you are describing, is a sign of pain or discomfort. Your dog really needs to be evaluated by a vet.
Avatar f tn NO! Dogs can't metabolize ibuprofen (advil). You can give him tylenol for a short time, but he will be much better off with an anti-inflammatory from your vet. I had two dogs that ended up with severe arthritis. The first took rimadyl daily for 5 of his 13.5 years due to hip displaysia. The last couple of years we switched to deramaxx when the symptoms got more severe. BIG difference with the deramaxx, but it's more expensive.
Avatar n tn s allergies, however, it can be more difficult to treat because the first step in treating symptoms caused by allergies is to eliminate the allergen, which can be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Let the vet take a look and maybe culture the ears to see what you're dealing with and she/he'll be able to treat it from there.
Avatar f tn Hi. What to say, other than that 18yrs is an extraordinarily good age. She is a very elderly lady. I have a crossbreed who breathes heavy during the night (actually whenever he's in deep sleep). I wouldn't worry too much. Older dogs sleep alot and certainly aren't as perky as younger dogs. Just imagine a human that's 88yrs old ... as that's the human equivalent for a Jack Russell. Walking sideways is another issue.
Avatar f tn for humans. Restasis is way more expensive and not the proper strength for dogs. My vet advised against it. Dog will need to be on medicine for rest of its life, it's a degenerative disease.
Avatar n tn s office my cat has her both pupil dilated for being stress or nervous and I went to the vet at night. the problem in her pupil is more evident with daylight. Well, vet gave us a treatment for the keratitis and the conjunctivitis with Doxycycline and eye drops that contains tobramycin. she told us that keratitis or conjunctivitis don't cause mydriasis, so probably she will have to do some medical examinations to my cat.
Avatar f tn As far as I am aware, the flu-like virus that infects dogs is not transferable to humans - or from humans to dogs. The two strains are completely different and isolated to each species (although most viruses do mutate and very rarely they can transfer from dogs to other animals, but not humans). That said, I would be extremely interested in what the vet has said and where he got the information from.
4862098 tn?1360170730 I suggest you look/ask around to see if there is anyone in the neighborhood who also has a (comparable) dog who might have different hours than yours or be retired or a home maker who would enjoy trading some joint play times for the dogs...maybe even interested in just getting your dog out often to play with their dog. We have over the years had several neighbor dogs as visiting pets.
Avatar n tn My dog is vomiting. I have a prescription for Ondansetron . It is 4 MG. Can I give it to my dog? He is 13 and weighs 7.9 lbs.
