throat

Avatar f tn I have had chronic strep throat since I was little. I even have one tonsil that is constantly swollen and has been for the past 5 years (we call it my bad tonsil). Anyway, my good tonsil is all swelled up and is completely white with blisters. My other symptoms include ear pain, headache, body aches, and soar throat on the blistered side. I have had strep a million times and this doesn't feel like strep. The throat pain isn't bad enough for me to think its strep.
Avatar n tn Strep throat, or thrush. Strep throat needs antibiotics. Thrush needs listerent gargle, careful cleaning. Google to check other symptoms.
Avatar f tn Hi , today when I woke up my throat started hurting and it was like tickling my throat or something because it was making me cough. and it's kind of hard to swallow. do you know what I could possibly have ?
Cat Since then my tonsil at times feels swollen, but when I look at it it looks the same. Can strep throat cause damage to the tonsil and make it sensitive. Any suggestions on how to make this tonsil less sensitive. I am 38 so I really do not want to have a tonsillectomy. It is not infected but it does have some crevices. So could it be that food and liquid gets in there and what I am feeling is it interacting with that?
Avatar n tn I have had strep throat three times since December. I have been on amoxicillon, Z pack, and finally a penicillin shot. But these cases of strep were different than I had experienced as a child. I didn't have a sore throat, no fever, I didn't really feel sick but my throat felt swollen and it was effecting my gag reflex. I never thought it was strep. My left tonsil is still swollen and sometimes it still bothers me, but I don't feel sick. What is going on?
Avatar n tn Also of people get fever and feel really sick with a strep inection but sometimes all you have is a chronic sore throat. If you let a strep infection go for a long time without treatment it can make you seriously ill and could even kill you. That is rare but it does happen. Go to the doc. A simple exam and maybe a throat swab should reveal the cause of your sore throat. Good luck, hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn Throat infections can be streptococcal or a viral infections. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
Avatar f tn It responds to antibiotics but never goes completely away. I have very small tonsils and lymph nodes and the doctors do not even think I have strep until they do a culture. Once on antibiotics my tonsils return to normal but the back of my throat still hurts. The doctors say it looks normal... but it is not normal to me.The highest my temp gets is 99.6 no matter how sick I feel.
Avatar f tn When the doctor looked at the tonsils he asked if I ever had mono before. Throat culture was negative for strep. The sore throat and swollen tonsils went away in 5 days.
Avatar n tn m sick again, only this time there seems to be no white spots on my tonsils and I have a stuffy/runny nose. My throat is more itchy and scratchy then hurting this time, but my tonsils are still red and swollen. Is it possible I have strep yet again, or does this sound more like just a cold?? Oh and no fever, I had a fever the other 2 times I had strep.
Avatar m tn Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain. If you develop a fever, or if there is enlargement of the tonsils with pain or if there is white coating on the tonsils, you will need to consult your primary care physician for a strep test, which if positive you will be given antibiotics. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn So basically, today is April 17th and I still have the craters and the back of my throat looks terrible. Is there something else I could have besides strep throat? Thank you so much for your help!

Avatar m tn About two days ago I felt a slight sore throat and a little bit of swelling of my tonsils. Yesterday I checked my tonsils and noticed they were covered in big white spots and still slightly swollen. I went to the hospital and they checked me out and did a throat culture for strep and gave me some antibiotics to stop anything from spreading. They said there is a small chance I could have an std and that I have to wait a few days to find out if I have strep throat. What could it be?

Avatar n tn i have a sore throat and white and what looks like black dots on my tonsils and i used a q-tip to wipe it to make sure no food was suck in it blood apreared on the q-tip. what is this ?
Avatar f tn Back in May I got strep throat. I ended up getting it a total of 4 times over a 10week period. I don't know if I had become immune to all amoxicillon or not, but it finally went away mid-July. Then 1.5weeks later I had a flare up of what I thought was strep(fever, red throat, puss & canker sores). My doctor sent me to an ENT who left it up to me if I want to have my tonsils removed or just monitor it through the winter months. My tonsils are still swollen, but no sore throat.
Avatar n tn Then about a week after I had finished my antibiotics, I started getting a sore throat again. My tonsils were very large and swollen. I went to the doctor and he said thought he would give me more tests for strep. It wasn't strep. I dealt with a sore throat for a few days, and now it seems that I have normal sized tonsils and no sore throat but I have this very large and very painful bump on the inside of my mouth.
Avatar n tn First I gave unprotected oral sex to a male two weeks ago and a few days ago my tonsils are very swollen, no pain, and white puss looking sacks on the tonsils. I have had strep throat more times than i can count in my life but it usually hurts but when i get strep its swollen tonsils and white sacks on it. Is there anyway possible that it could be chlamydia? Second I can't afford medications or going to the ER if it is there will it go away?
Avatar f tn Symptoms of strep throat include throat pain, difficulty swallowing, red and swollen tonsils, swollen/tender lymph glands in the neck, fever, and fatigue. However, these set of symptoms may also be observed in a viral infection or some other kind of illness. To confirm if this is due to streptococcus bacteria, throat swab or culture and direct physical examination may be done. If this is due to a viral infection, it usually resolves after a few days.
