Avatar m tn But, Strep Group A can cause a variety of invasive types of illnessness secondary to the original strep throat. these are rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, endocarditis, glomerulonephritis. They need to determine if he got any of these complications (which are rare) .By doing more tests. Did they ever culture Group A strep from his throat? It takes a few months for the ASO titer to go down and also for the lymph nodes to go down.
Avatar m tn I have been exposed to strep throat and i'm 18 weeks pregnant What should I do and is there dander to my unborn child
Avatar f tn s stretching it- But my son had peeling itching toes and fingers after scarlet fever which is a dreaded disease but actually is only a step above strep..... Has he had Strep throat? followed by another week or so with a rash/sunburned looking?
Avatar f tn I had a strep infection without a sore throat, but with scarlet fever, and every joint in my body was involved. I could barely walk. I had no idea strep could cause these symptoms. You can also have a negative rapid strep test. What you really need is a culture and a blood draw to make sure. I got the run around for quite a while. I went to the doctor and said "my fingers are swollen" and he said "they don't look swollen to me.
Avatar n tn Scarlet fever is nothing more than a form of strep throat that causes a high fever and a rash. Is is not related to STD's in any form. Once you have had it, the chances of reoccuring is suppose to be slim however my son had it 3 times. They finally removed his tonsills and adenoids and he has not had it since. Also my son was fatigued and had achiness for a while following antibotics but this does go away.
Avatar n tn the disease usually comes along a couple of weeks after someone has popped up with a stubborn strep infection like strep throat or scarlet fever (which is almost unheard of these days w. the scarlet fever). The parts of your body that can be effect is your heart, brain, joints of your body mimicking rheumatoid arthritis and believe it or not your skin. It is considered to be an inflamatory disease in other words causing any of these parts of your body or a portion of them to swell up.
Avatar f tn We took him to his regular doctor today and they said his ears looked fine but they think it was most likely strep and possibly scarlet fever. They also did not think that the other doctor at the Mediquik took the proper steps for a young child, confirming my doubt. We are waiting for him to finish the antibiotic to see if all symptoms subside. I will be sure to take him back to the doctor if I feel even a bit of something is bothering him.
Avatar f tn Maybe you should be tested for hand, foot, and mouth. This can cause sore throat and also peeling of skin on hands and feet. You should return to your dr. as he or she may need to give you another round of antibiotics for the strep. Hope you get well soon.

Avatar m tn March 1st at 4 am, technically March 2nd, I woke up with a fever of 103. The fever persisted as low grade even with medications. (Advil and Tylenol fever reducer) I also have what feels like the worst sore throat ever. Literal burning whenever I swallow. (Only hot liquids help) I went to urgent care that Tuesday morning and they tested me for Covid, Flu and Strep. The wacky doctor that came in claimed "your throat looks fine and all your other vitals are normal.
503418 tn?1231098736 Well, pus indicates an infection, and if serious there should be a fever. If the condition is strep throat (tonsillitis), that is a specific type of infection caused by the streptococcus bacteria. Strep tonsillitis can cause secondary damage to the heart valves (rheumatic fever) and kidneys (glomerulonephritis).
Avatar f tn Tuesday sore throat was worse I could barely swallow. Went to MD and had a strep throat test- negative. Also swollen lymph nodes in neck and slight fever 101. No other cold or flu symptoms. I can only swallow ice water or ice chips. After 3 days I now have a blistery rash on my hands also. Could this be mono or something else- should I see Dr again?
Avatar f tn Hey there, I'm a 20 year old female concerned about catching something after having a man (of unknown status) ejaculate in my mouth twice. Five days after, I woke up with a swollen/sore throat and red, sunburn-like rash covering my groin, buttocks, breasts & surrounding area, but it didn't itch and I no fever. I had slept with a tampon in, and was concerned about TSS, but had no other symptoms.
Avatar m tn Then there is this rheumatic fever and scarlet fever. My best friend woke up with a rash and high fever and opened all the windows (it was winter). Luckily her other friend lived near by and walked in and said what are doing it is freezing in here. He is a microbiologist too like me and he took her to the hospital. She had scarlet fever from Strep throat. I don't know if your murmur was always there like mine they didn't find it until I was in my 20's and it is a small one.
Avatar f tn my neighbor lady has just told me that she has a strep infection. However, the symptoms she has described are pretty scary. I'm wondering if some information is being held back. (She has been known to fib many times) There are 3 little children at home and I am concerned...she has a very, very bad sore throat, extreme headache and neck ache, dizziness, nausea, a rash covers almost her whole body. The worst symptom is 2 golf ball sized lumps at the point where her neck and spine meet.
Avatar f tn t have all the other symptoms except pain fever and pus and possible rash (in scarlet fever) with strep throat (not the cough, sneezing and other cold or flu like symptoms, but since your throat is so painful I thought of writing again to maybe have you check.
Avatar m tn looking for advise, my son is 9+yrs and has had a stiff neck since oct/nov last year. suddenly 2mo's ago he got really swollen glands with sore throat and bad chest infection with wheezing asthma, followed by high fever ard 5days later. it affected his liver too for e next 2months_swollen and palpable, with upset stomach and pain below the ribs. the doc suspected EBV, so he was told no sports for 2mo's. a test showed that it was an old ebv infection, but not active.
Avatar n tn Well, Heather pretyy much said it all. A titer of 1:160 is pretty low. In the presence of arthritis and/or an elevated Sed Rate it, still might be important. For the majority of kids with a low-positive ANA it doesn't indicate a true underlying disease. Scarlet Fever is the just rash of the strep germ, especially of strep throat, though the infection can be other places. It is not really a separate disease than a strep infection.
Avatar f tn Firstly, has he been cultured for strep throat and/or had a rapid strep test done? Secondly, steroids are good for getting inflammation down but they cause you get very immunocompromised. Are these oral steroids and were they actually perscribed by a doctor. I would stop the steroids. He could also have a resistant strain of Strep. so they may need to do a antibiotic sensitivity panel if the culutre is still positive. Lastly, it may virus that he got after the initial infection.
Avatar m tn my son of 9 yrs complaint with difficulty in Swallowing , we have observed white patches on tonsils and also in the throat inner area. he is reported with fever, cold, and cough occassionally and feels anemic. he is well vaccinated . what clould be the problem, and how to diagnise it ,. is there any treatment for these symptoms??????
9309926 tn?1405447056 t seen it after a strep throat. Sore throats can often be caused aby viruses and not strep. With a strep throat you usually get a high fever. Sometimes you can also get swollen lymph nodes under the neck. You don't always get pus (white spots on the tonsils or back of the throat) but you usually do. Strep throat can become serious so they do have to watch you. Sometimes it does go away on its own. I would definitely get the swab done.
