If I suspect Mono, and took a 3 day course of Amoxicillin (10 pills) and developed no rash, can I pretty much rule out mono?
Some sources state 80-90% of those taking Amoxicillin with Mono develop the rash, while I've even seen 99% as a percentage.
I actually want it to be Mono, instead of something worse, but I'm starting to fear the worst.
Have any of you had Mono, been misdiagnosed with Strep and took Amoxicillin, and NOT get the rash?
Ive never heard of Vitamin B12 deficiency causing those symptoms. You need a mono test, and a strep test due to the rash and sore throat, also a throat culture to test for different bacterias (Strep A and Strep B). The rapid strep tests they do in the clinic only test for one type of strep. Also, even though rare anymore, you should ask them about possible scarlet fever. You need a new CBC done, it is possible that the WBC has went up since the last test.
Mono has the same symptoms as strep throat or the flu. Your throat hurts but the main give away is that your lymph nodes in your neck are so swollen. The only way to be sure is to visit the doctor. And yes, it's very common to get it from sharing drinks, even from touching lips on a public drinking fountain.
It could be mono but you usually have extreme fatigue and sometimes pain in the spleen. Strep throat can give you a very very sore throat and fever. Usually with Strep there are white pus spots on the tonsils and/or back of the throat, also fatigue. Gonorrhoeae of the throat would be from oral sex and you can get pus in the throat as well, sore throat, and possibly fever. So it is hard to say which thing it is.
He did not think it was mono, because I am 37 and he said it is highly unusual to have mono at my age. Mono proved negative. As did strep. He gave me a round of antibiotics and it all cleared up. He left it rather nonspecific.
When I was performing oral, my partner's penis hit the back of my throat several times. I have heard that the back of the throat is a more likely place to get HIV. But I also heard this would be unlikely to show in 72 hours.
Have they tested you for mono?
I can't be sure that that's it, but if it is, mono can last at least a month. Strep throat is a common symptom, as is fatigue.
I would suggest going to the ER to find out.

A few days prior to the symptoms, i got this weird ulcer looking thing on my labia minora, i don't know if it was skin erosion or an ulcer or what.. i didn't pay too much attention to it at the time and it just seemed to appear and then disappear 2 or 3 days later. My mono went away in about 3 weeks and I haven't had any symptoms of the ulcer or mono since.
I am now on antibiotics for strep throat and it seems to not be work, which I had a throat culture with positive for strep.
My oral infection is getting worse.
I was tested for HIV at 6 1/2 weeks after risky sex, and it was negative.
Why is my oral infection, which I believe to be thrush not responding to treatment and strep not responding to antibiotics?
How reliable is my negative test result on HIV test?

I was tested for strep and mono. Strep came back positive (Strep C) and negative for mono. I was prescribed amoxicillin and was feeling much better on day 3 until I developed a horrible yeast infection. I was then prescribed the one dose of fluconazole and the yeast infection was cleared. My original symptoms were gone so I didn't bother taking the rest of the antibiotic. (I know, my fault).
My brother tested positive for strep throat today and I've been around him..they're supposed yo induce on Monday. If I am to come down with strep will they still induce? How soon will strep affect me if I've caught it? And is there anything I can do meanwhile to help fight any bacteria I've already been exposed to?
it sounds to me like you have mono! I had mono a year ago and my throat hurt so bad i would drool rather then swallow, Mono makes you VERY tired, and opens you immune system to other illnesses like strep which is commonly accompanied by mono. A simple blood test can tell you if you have mono, your going to have to go to a doctor and get on some antibiotics to get rid of it, if money is an issue go to a free clinic in your area.
Poor baby. Strep and Mono at the same time! I would expect that her strep test will be negative next time since most strains of Strep respond well to antibiotics. I imagine that the blotchy cheeks, flushing is related to the Mono virus. I have a son who will be three in July. He gets VIRAL throat infections a couple times each cold and flu season.
feeling run down, as well as having a Loss of Appetite Sounds like Strep Throat or Mono, but did you have a Sore Throat or Fever at any point?? Taking Antibiotics, like Penicillin/Amoxicillin would've Helped if it was Strep, & IF it was Strep w/in 24hrs of starting Antibiotics you're no longer Confessors. Hi everyone, recently I went to the doctor with a nasty sore throat that had started to get swollen and accumulate white spots. He tested me for strep and found that it was not that, and my lymph nodes are not swollen for it to be mono. He said it was a viral infection that should last about three to four days. Anyway, the next day, I performed oral sex on my boyfriend. The day after that, I realized the infection had gotten even worse (at least to me). Could this have exacerbated the problem?
-may 5th the doctors called again and told us my strep test was positive, and called in the prescription for penicillin to treat the strep throat.

Hello, years ago i was diagnosed with strep after a sexual encounter with a female. Kissing and oral performed on her. Days later my throat started to feel funny. First started off with tonsils feeling swollen when i swallowed and really paid no mind to it as there was no pain or flu/cold like symptoms. So about 2 days go by and i noticed white spots on tonsils and a little bit of pain when i swallowed.
Maybe if she had strep throat or something maybe you would would have got a sick penis. Maybe she had a sore throat and you were kissing and caught her sore throat, but that is still a very short incubation period. Maybe you already were caring a bug and it just happened to catch up to you at that time. By the way, how is the girl feeling, maybe she is not well either with a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes??
Hi and sorry I haven't seen your message for some reason sooner. You could have had mononucleosis. How are you feeling now? How old are you? Yes it is possible to carry TB and not have a cough but you usually don't have a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes. It could be a strep throat too but I think the fever would be higher. Mono lasts about a month and the lymph nodes remain swollen for about 2 months. You can get tested for that if you are young.
I forgot to mention DID have a fever (and my glans penis became slightly redder) and the doctor diagnosed me with both Strep throat and Mono, but strep throat goes away in 3 to 7 days without treatment, and probably even more quickly with treatment. I KNOW FOR A FACT I had strep throat AND a virus. Thanks to my negative mono test, my anxiety soared and I began to think it was HIV.
I've had a sore throat, fever and migraine since Monday. Went to doc on Wednesday. Negative for strep. I had mono over a month ago, same doc doesn't think it's mono again. She thinks it's something else bacterial. Did a culture, she said results will be back Monday. The front part of my throat is almost all white (discoloration?), with red veins and other white(ish) bumps. The back of my throat is red, with obvious red bumps.
