Common Questions and Answers about Strep infection toddler

infection

Avatar f tn Sounds like a strep infection. She needs to see the doctor - Hope she's doing better today.
Avatar n tn Well she had a barely red throat and the PA decided to check for strep which was positive. Never having dealt with strep I assumed the smell was from the bacteria of strep. The Amoxicillan they gave her did not work so we went back for Omnicef and after 2 doses of meds the smell was gone. Two weeks after meds the smell came back... back to the Dr. no strep... no answers.... Ive tried everything from no juice to flossing with no luck. Is this an indication of a bigger problem?
Avatar n tn I know strep and allergies are definitely two different things, but it could be that if he has an allergy issue, his nasal passages and throat get irritated from that and then an infection occurs - the strep throat. This past winter I, myself, got strep throat twice and pneumonia once - the first bout of strep actually landed me in the hospital for 4 days.
Avatar f tn This isnt about my pregnancy but my toddler im really worried and want to here from other moms. So my 2 1/2 yr old has went 24hrs and only urinated once and pooed only twice this week he is doin just fine playing drinking eating sleeping everything he just wont pee. And the one time he did it was really yellow. Called doc but they havent called back should I be worried???
Avatar f tn He did have a virus about 2 weeks ago (no fever, just a viral respitory infection). They also checked him for strep too that was negative. The strep test was done because 2 weeks before the petechiae started he had a very bad rash that was believed to be from an allergy. A mixture of hydrocorisone and miconozole was used for about 2 weeks or so to take away the rash along with Zyrtec. The petechiae was not present until he had this rash.
6886003 tn?1457231122 s getting to where walking is painful. Plus my poor toddler has strep. Ready to have her already.
Avatar f tn She most likely has a kidney infection, which can come from the bloodstream as in flu, or is a result of a urinary tract infection from pool water, or possibly losing her balance and bumping her back where the kidneys are. I think, tho, since she had a fever, it's most likely a kidney infection. The docs at the ER would have noticed, by the way, if she had a bruising on her back, so I do not think she has ruptured her kidneys or anything.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have a toddler(will be 2 in July) who seems to have throat infections very often. It started when he was about 7 monthsold or so. The symptoms would start when he didnt want to eat or drink very much. Then he will run a fever. Sometimes the fever will be low grade and sometimes it will be quite high 103.5 degrees. Sometimes he will have a runny nose as well but most of the time it is just the fever and lack of appetite that is present.
Avatar f tn Could the urinary infection or penicillin affect the test and is ten weeks long enough to test accuratly?I know 12 weeks is the usual time but do you think 10 weeks was good enough.
Avatar f tn Hi, the symptoms described could be due to an infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
Avatar n tn I may be completely wrong and just have strep throat or the early stages of pneumonia (some of my friends have both of those, and I've been around them in the last few days), but I figured I would ask on here. I'm not sure what the typical time frame is for symptoms to appear, and I read that gonorrhea of the throat is typically asymptomatic.
Avatar m tn it's a Strep, not Staph, infection. I know that Amox. is used to treat strep infections... we'll see if it works. I'll get restested in a few weeks.
Avatar n tn m not sure that is what would of caused you to miscarry though. Strep b is a bacterial infection that can cause problems if left untreated when you deliver. I haven't heard it to cause any complications during the actual pregnancy but I could be wrong. What they do is when you go to deliever your baby they put antibiotics in your iv 4 hours before you give birth to prevent it going to the baby. As long as you get the antibiotics the chance of it passing is extremely slim.
Avatar m tn https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/group-b-strep/symptoms-causes/syc-20351729 If the doctor believe it requires treatment, a simple round of common antibiotics will be prescribed. You did not and could not have given this to her.
Avatar f tn Usually with a bad strep infection you would get a fever of about 100 or more. Some viruses would cause a fever too. The other poster brought up a good point is that you could also get tested for Gonorrhoeae or GC of the throat. So if you are not better you should see a doctor and discuss some of these issues. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Avatar n tn First time vaginal swab (and cervix) was investigated, strep beta hemolytic group b was found. 10days Xiclav therapy was prescribed. After that, strep was gone, but e colli was there, so Bactrim was prescribed for 5 days. 3rd time only enterococcus faecalis was reported and nothing was prescribed until after 20days the doctor repeated examination. 4th swab indicated presence of strep b (second time) and enterococcus faecalis, amoxiscilin is prescribed for 8-10 days.
Avatar n tn m kind of freaking out! i thought the sores might just be canker sores and that i might also just have strep, but now that i'm getting more sores, i'm not so sure. also, if this is a primary outbreak, how long should i expect it to last? i am seeing my boyfriend again in a week and want to know whether i shouldn't kiss him, etc. it started on monday, btw. please let me know!! freaking!
Avatar n tn All of this just to communicate that it sounds likely to me that you have a group b strep infection in your throat.
Avatar f tn I found out I have s strep b infection..anyone else had this. Trying not to stress over it. And have a hospital appointment next week.
Avatar f tn I've had strep before... believe me, if you had it, you wouldn't question if it were strep =) Strep usually gives you the white spots, so while it MAY be that, it's probably not. I suspect a lingering illness based on you being a smoker and recently having a sinus infection. Mucus can drip from your sinuses to your throat and cause all sorts of fun inflammation, and smoking would just irritate your throat further.
Avatar f tn Strep throat is an infection, not an allergy. I have never heard of a cat giving a human a strep infection.
Avatar m tn It is more common to transmit it by having impetigo (wound) infection caused by strep then scratching it and then scratching the anal area. But, if you know you had strep throat then it is possible.
Avatar n tn Except for a low growth of Group B strep. The discharge has a burning sensation, I have stomach pains, pain sometimes with sex, painful periods, excessive lubrication with sex.. There isnt a stong odor however. My Dr has treated me with Metronidazole- brand name used was flagyl Nylstatin for yeast, clamycin, spandnox (for yeast), and recently had some relief with Augmentin(which was prescribed for a chest infection).
Avatar f tn i have strep b and i am 4 months pregnant, can i develop zit like bumps in my vaginal area?
Avatar f tn If he had a strep infection and still has a sore throat, then your child's physician should order an ASO titer and find out whether or not the antibiotics completely killed his previous strep infection. If not, he needs to get on a new antibiotic ASAP.
