With a prior history of an upper respiratory tract infection such as a strep throat, I suggest that you have this rash closely monitored. Have you taken any antibiotics for your strep throat ? Were you able to complete the course of your medications?
Although rare, strep throat may cause scarlet fever as a complication.The rash of scarlet fever is usually associated with headache and a fever .The rash has a rough feel to it and may be reddish over the arms and legs.

A somewhat unusual or unexpected strep infection is perianal disease. This presents as an intensely red rash around the anus, which is usually mistaken for a yeast infection (Candida). However, antifungal medications such as nystatin cream are useless. The rash disappears promptly with oral penicillin or erythromycin treatment. Intertrigo, infection of moist crease areas, is most often due to Candida albicans (yeast) infection. It may however be caused by Group A Streptococcus, as well.
Specifically small red bumps underneath the skin. It started as a reaction to the strep throat but now its been over a month and the skin rash gets worse. He's also developed 4 blisters on the back of his calf that he says hurt and itch. He scratches from head to toe and can not find relief in any of the meds he's on (zyrtec, locoid). I don't believe it is eczema could you tell me what other possible skin problem he might have?
Initially we thought it was due to a change in dteregent, soap, or something else that may have irritated my skin but after a few days we began to think otherwise. I have had the rash now for about two weeks, and eventhoug it is painless it is still worrisome. Due to the suddenness of appearance of rash along with no prior history of any rash,it can be due to a viral infection or an allergic reaction.Scarlet fever(strep infection with a rash) and other viral infections and allergic reaction due to contact dermatitis have to be ruled out.Apply calamine lotion on the rash and consult a pediatrician soon.Treatment for all is different and before prescribing any medicine in children ,it is important to confirm a diagnosis first.

Well, has she had a strep test? The rash could be scarlet fever from the strep infection. I had a strep infection without a sore throat, but with scarlet fever, and every joint in my body was involved. I could barely walk. I had no idea strep could cause these symptoms. You can also have a negative rapid strep test. What you really need is a culture and a blood draw to make sure. I got the run around for quite a while.

Fungal infection may present with a rash with a well defined border. The rash may be itchy and scaly. In a sweat rash, the rash may present with small vesicles and they may also itchy. They are usually associated with excessive sweating. Do you have any of these conditions?
I suggest ,that you have this assessed by a dermatologist. You may need an antihistamine for the itch. Microscopic evaluation of skin scrapings of the area may help define a fungal infection.

I showed him my lump and rashes, which he said the rash was normal with Strep and that I had an abscess from the infection.. He shot me with a steroid + rocephin, and wrote me an order for an antibiotic to treat my abscess.. Went back today, Thursday as a follow up, and by now my rash has covered me from head to toe, my fever is still present, throat still swollen, and my abscess has almost doubled in size to the point I can't turn my neck..
Fever and white blood cell count indicates infection. The rash presenting on the calves makes me think it's erythema nodosum...this will resolve on its own in 3 - 6 weeks, usually. Since strep throat can cause erythema nodosum, I'd bet that you had strep throat (did you have a strep test done?). Mononucleosis can also cause this, but since you didn't mention extreme fatigue, I wouldn't include this in the differential diagnosis.
He did have a virus about 2 weeks ago (no fever, just a viral respitory infection). They also checked him for strep too that was negative. The strep test was done because 2 weeks before the petechiae started he had a very bad rash that was believed to be from an allergy. A mixture of hydrocorisone and miconozole was used for about 2 weeks or so to take away the rash along with Zyrtec. The petechiae was not present until he had this rash.
t until later that the scarlet fever rash showed up. The strep infection was in my blood stream. Once I took the course of antibiotics it was gone. So I'm not sure that something like a throat swab is going to indicate that the infection is indeed eradicated. Maybe have to ask for some blood work to be done.
