Common Questions and Answers about Strep infection medication

infection

Avatar f tn But about two weeks later the same symptoms returned (w/ a fever of 101.6) and the doctors ruled out strep and mono once again and put him on the same medication regimen. Could his symptoms possibly stem from a tooth abscess?? If not a tooth abscess what else do you think could be causing his symptoms? Thank you in advance for your response.
Avatar f tn I'm almost 20 weeks, and I caught something ( bronchitis, strep, respiratory infection) about 3 days ago. I don't feel comfortable taking medicine while pregnant, I usually let my body fight sicknesses anyway. Is it bad to let it run it's course?
Avatar n tn Except for a low growth of Group B strep. The discharge has a burning sensation, I have stomach pains, pain sometimes with sex, painful periods, excessive lubrication with sex.. There isnt a stong odor however. My Dr has treated me with Metronidazole- brand name used was flagyl Nylstatin for yeast, clamycin, spandnox (for yeast), and recently had some relief with Augmentin(which was prescribed for a chest infection).
Avatar f tn I don't think it is an infection per say. i had it and the way it was discribed to me was that it was a naturally occuring bacteria that some women just have. doesn't effect us but could be harmful to baby if no antibiotics are given.
Avatar m tn Hi, around 4 days ago I got sore throat following by a few mouth ucler (2 on the tongue). Then after 2 days (yesterday morning) my upper lip went a bit numb and really dry. Today the numbness is gone but still extremely dry no matter what I do. So in the afternoon I went to the doctor, and he told me I have an infection, didn't say anything else and prescribe me with "Azithromycin Monohydrate Tables". The problem is now my left eyes is completely red and a bit itchy.
Avatar m tn Im also wondering if it was the acute infection would the strep respond to antibiotics at all or since hiv is a virus would it not respond?
Avatar f tn Could the urinary infection or penicillin affect the test and is ten weeks long enough to test accuratly?I know 12 weeks is the usual time but do you think 10 weeks was good enough.
Avatar f tn I tested positive for it but my ob told me not to worry an ounce. They're going to put penicillin in my iv when I go into labor to keep my daughter safe from it. I wouldn't worry too much. Worst part about it is where they swab when they test you for it lol.
Avatar f tn Hi, the symptoms described could be due to an infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
Avatar n tn I may be completely wrong and just have strep throat or the early stages of pneumonia (some of my friends have both of those, and I've been around them in the last few days), but I figured I would ask on here. I'm not sure what the typical time frame is for symptoms to appear, and I read that gonorrhea of the throat is typically asymptomatic.
Avatar n tn If the spots were small and splotchy streaks and mixed with red streaks it could be a strep infection. As for the thrush--Sometimes when a person takes too many antibiotics (if the child has been on any) they can kill off the good bacteria in the mouth as well as the bad, thus causing the thrush infection to grow. The more antibiotics you take for thrush, the worse it gets. Antifungal medication such as nystatin is usually a good medication to take.

For the cough (dry) antitussives with Dextromethorphan based syrups like Triaminic may help.
Avatar n tn I am curious if you can develop a staph infection from close contact to someone with strep, considering I was nursing to him all weekend.
Avatar m tn it's a Strep, not Staph, infection. I know that Amox. is used to treat strep infections... we'll see if it works. I'll get restested in a few weeks.
Avatar n tn m not sure that is what would of caused you to miscarry though. Strep b is a bacterial infection that can cause problems if left untreated when you deliver. I haven't heard it to cause any complications during the actual pregnancy but I could be wrong. What they do is when you go to deliever your baby they put antibiotics in your iv 4 hours before you give birth to prevent it going to the baby. As long as you get the antibiotics the chance of it passing is extremely slim.
Avatar f tn When I was sick with an ear infection and the start of strep I called my normal doctor and they said since I'm pregnant and sick I need to go to my ob doctor because then if I need any medication the doctor can prescribe it without having to check with another doctor.
Avatar f tn t have health insurance, but there may be low-cost county clinic you can have access to. If you have bacterial infection, like Strep throat, acyclovir will not treat it. Please seek professional medical help as soon as possible! Good luck! Sore Throat - Medline Plus http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/sorethroat.
Avatar n tn Ah just found out I have group B strep infection and freaking out. Dr said it's mild case and put me on antibiotics but I'm still scared that it could cause damage to bubs. I'm 7 weeks by the way? Anyone else is in the same situation?
Avatar f tn I have never heard of a yeast infection being linked to preterm labour, but I am not a Dr. either so I certainly don't know that for sure. I do know you shouldn't just ignore it, nor should you try to treat it yourself with an over the counter remedy. You should see your Dr. I don't know it this applied to yeast infections, but I do know that small issues can be bigger problems during pregnancy and your Dr. is the best person to diagnose and treat you appropriately.
Avatar m tn https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/group-b-strep/symptoms-causes/syc-20351729 If the doctor believe it requires treatment, a simple round of common antibiotics will be prescribed. You did not and could not have given this to her.
Avatar f tn He did open the tooth and put medication in it, and I ended up having to wait 2 weeks to get it filled because my 3 little ones came down with strep throat.
242516 tn?1368223905 If less than 3 of 4 of these signs are positive, then wait for your strep test or throat culture to show a bacterial infection before taking antibiotics. These are general guidelines, meant to be taken in the whole context of your health history by your doctor.
