Avatar n tn There is so much going around at bthe moment colds coughs chicken pox,you sound like you have had the flu and a virul infection maybe a throat infection which causes high fever, take paracetamol for temp and drink plenty of fluids
Avatar f tn I know a lady that passed away from strep about 20 years ago and I know a person that passed away from sinus infection a few years ago. Also, with the bad cough, you could have bronchitis. See your doctor soon.
Avatar f tn My throat is sore, and I have been treated for mono and strep throat prior. This however feels different, it is so sharp and constant, and I feel a shortness in breath throughout the day and night.
Avatar f tn The only reason women are tested during pregnancy is that it can pass onto the skin of your baby during birth and has a risk of passing on infection, affecting the lungs or eyes. (About 1/200) the use of anti-biotics during labour should ward off risks and keep baby healthy during birth and decreases your risk to 1/4000. I tested positive as well, but there is no reason to worry. Just opt for the antibiotics and yoy will be fine :) its normal.
9309926 tn?1405447056 t seen it after a strep throat. Sore throats can often be caused aby viruses and not strep. With a strep throat you usually get a high fever. Sometimes you can also get swollen lymph nodes under the neck. You don't always get pus (white spots on the tonsils or back of the throat) but you usually do. Strep throat can become serious so they do have to watch you. Sometimes it does go away on its own. I would definitely get the swab done.
242516 tn?1368223905 If less than 3 of 4 of these signs are positive, then wait for your strep test or throat culture to show a bacterial infection before taking antibiotics. These are general guidelines, meant to be taken in the whole context of your health history by your doctor. Another helpful reference includes the American College of Physicians, Annals of Internal Medicine, 20 March 2001, Volume 134, Number 6. http://www.annals.
Avatar m tn If you have been to the doctor, you have been tested for strep, correct? My kids almost always get stomach aches with strep infections (that is when they culture your throat with the swab). Many viruses will also cause stomach issues such as nausea. On top of that, when you have a virus, you often aren't hungry and then blood sugar drops, the stomach gets irritated, etc. and it can also cause stomach issues.
Avatar f tn I initially went into a walk in clinic. I was tests for mono and strep throat. I came back positive for strep throat. I was treated with antibiotics and a steroid. I had no symptoms of strep throat. The medication did nothing for the swollen mass or lymph node... whatever it is. A few weeks later I made an appointment with a physician. He sent me to have a blood test, x-ray and CT scan. Then he referred me to see an ENT.
Avatar f tn Could the urinary infection or penicillin affect the test and is ten weeks long enough to test accuratly?I know 12 weeks is the usual time but do you think 10 weeks was good enough.
Avatar f tn I did see a doctor the first time this happened, and was tested for strep because she saw some inflammation in my throat. Strep test was negative. I haven't been to a doctor again, because the fever is gone by morning and I don't want to pay for them to run a bunch of random tests. Any ideas? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn Hi, the symptoms described could be due to an infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
Avatar n tn PTB is Pulmonary Tuberculosis, or TB, is an infectious bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which most commonly affects the lungs. It usually affects the apical portion of the lungs. It is transmitted from person to person via droplets from the throat and lungs of people with the active respiratory disease. Undetermined activity means, the findings identified in imaging studies could be due to an active infection or due to an old infection.
Avatar f tn well, that can be complicated. In general, antibiotics treat infections. Some things like strep that you treat with antibiotics are contagious and antibiotics work within 48 hours (can be around people, no problem). But in general, lots of things that antibiotics are given for are not contagious such as a sinus infection. That is bacterial in your sinuses--- you can't really give that bacteria to someone. BUT, the reason why most people have sinus infections, bronchitis, etc.
Avatar f tn Swollen lymph glands can cause a lump on one side of your throat. Have you had a recent sore throat? Strep? Ear infections? Sinus infection? In some cases, even after antibiotics, some bacteria can remain, and cause a swollen gland or lymph node. A longer round of antibiotics typically clears it right up.
Avatar n tn I may be completely wrong and just have strep throat or the early stages of pneumonia (some of my friends have both of those, and I've been around them in the last few days), but I figured I would ask on here. I'm not sure what the typical time frame is for symptoms to appear, and I read that gonorrhea of the throat is typically asymptomatic.
1309410 tn?1273688027 I am 37w and 4d pregnant with my second child. I tested positive for group b strep last week at the doc. I'm a little worried. With my first pregnancy I tested negative for gbs. My water broke at 38 weeks with my first, and I was wondering if it would be bad if my water broke this time having group b strep. And if it isn't bad for my water to break would it be ok to take castor oil having group b strep.
645800 tn?1466860955 Or At least I wish I was today. I caught a cold and/or sinus infection the end of last week. Sore throat, running and stuffy nose, Pressure pain behind the cheek bones. Cough, everything that goes with those infections. Well except no fever as doctors label things. only 98.6 , but I usually sit at 96.8 normally. Went to the VA ER on Monday about my index finger hurting and this cold. The doctor was an absolute idiot.
Avatar n tn Again I was given steroid injections for my sons lungs and the labour was stopped. Unfortunately I was a carried of Group B Strep which we didn't realize at the time of my sons birth. He caught it and developed into septcaemia. He died aged 14 hours old. For the last week in this pregnancy I have had contractions. Last week I also had my show and when a cervical scan was performed they said my cervix was shortening and was given pessaries to try and stop it.
Avatar m tn it's a Strep, not Staph, infection. I know that Amox. is used to treat strep infections... we'll see if it works. I'll get restested in a few weeks.
Avatar n tn m not sure that is what would of caused you to miscarry though. Strep b is a bacterial infection that can cause problems if left untreated when you deliver. I haven't heard it to cause any complications during the actual pregnancy but I could be wrong. What they do is when you go to deliever your baby they put antibiotics in your iv 4 hours before you give birth to prevent it going to the baby. As long as you get the antibiotics the chance of it passing is extremely slim.
Avatar f tn Meningitis (infection of the spinal fluid) is diagnosed in up to one-third of late onset cases and permanent neurologic injury can follow. GBS can cause infection in the blood, lungs, brain, or spinal fluid of the baby, or it can result in milder infections, of the skin, for example. Skin infections may be referred to as erysipelas.
Avatar n tn I am a university student during the middle of finals and got sick this week. I first went to my campus's medical clinic originally thinking I had strep throat. Based on the doctor's conclusion, I had a viral throat infection. Three days went by and it turned into a whooping cough. I went back to the clinic today and the doctor gave me antibiotics after I told him I coughed up some green gunk. The doctor said my lungs sounded clear.
Avatar m tn I have had a persistent cold. Started out as a sinus infection then it became a sore throat (just like strep) with a high fever which lasted 3 days. I saw the doc and she gave me Amoxycillin for 7 days. It then eased but worked its way down to my chest and had l some build up of fluid in the lungs and as a result i was constantly coughing and trying to get it out. It has been going on now for over 7 weeks and will not completely go.
7249862 tn?1392252689 I agree with Alexandria.I would go as sok as labor starts I also have group b strep and my Dr isn't concerned unless I don't get antibitocs. Women r all carriers of group b strep its in our bodies just during pregnancy it comes out in certain women. I didn't have it with my first son but I have it now with my second.
Avatar n tn Neck lymph nodes can be the result of tonsillitis, pharyngitis (infection of upper throat), infection in mouth, caries in tooth, internal ear infection, outer ear infection, eczema, dermatitis, dandruff, breast cancer, fungal infection, other cancers like lymphoma etc. If you had flu like symptoms initially then it could be due to infectious mononucleosis too. Please discuss this with your doctor. Take care!
Avatar m tn https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/group-b-strep/symptoms-causes/syc-20351729 If the doctor believe it requires treatment, a simple round of common antibiotics will be prescribed. You did not and could not have given this to her.
