1569985 tn?1328247482 I have to go off my Warfarin for a colonoscopy. The cardiologist's nurse said ask the doctor doing the procedure how long I should be off of the Warfarin. Doctor says ask the assistant when she gives me my instructions. Assistant says, "Oh, I'm supposed to tell you? Do you need a bridge medication like Lovenox?" Makes me a little nervous going off of it anyway and now this.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your answer. My cardiologist mentioned stopping the warfarin and going with lovenox for 3 days prior to a catherization but said there was no need to stop taking plavix.
Avatar m tn Also it may be important to add that in 2006 I had my mitral valve repaired, but the a-fib was an issue prior to my surgery. My doctor attempted to cure the a-fib during the mitral valve surgery by doing a maze procedure but it failed to work.
Avatar m tn The most common anticoagulation drug prescribed after heart valve surgery is warfarin (Coumadin). The newer blood thinners are apixaban and dabigatran, also known as Pradaxa and are expensive. The main concern is that specific antidotes for bleeding are available for warfarin but not yet developed for the new drugs. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar f tn taking warfarin at a high dose for a longer period of time is only advised for individuals who are at a high risk of developing blood clots that could cause a heart attack, stroke or pulmonary embolism. There is a risk/benefit decision that would require professional judgement. Thanks for your question, and if you have any further questions, you are welcome to respond. Take care.
Avatar m tn thank you. they say the warfarin is because i have more blood leaking than before i had surgery.
Avatar n tn Warfarin interferes with the healing of the plaque in the vessels. Usually, warfarin can be taken for 3 to 6 months. But it depends on the clinical judgment of the surgeons.
942410 tn?1274047074 Clearly your question is one for your doctor to answer. In my experience with Warfarin, and I get along well with it, aspirin is much easier to deal with if it is sufficient. I don't know the relationship between having a pacemaker and needing Warfarin. Warfarin is a blood anticoagulant (thinner) as I'm sure you know. It is taken to reduce clot formation caused by something line Atrial Fibrillation or mechanical heart valves.
Avatar m tn I was taking warfarin for the knee surgery that was done feb. l4.and the Dr. took me off it on the after surgery follow up appointment this past thur. I don't know if I have Atrial Firillation. I do take blood pressure mediine.
Avatar m tn I have been on Cumadin for more than 4 years. Is there any benefit in switching to Xeralto? I have heard the Xeralto may have some sever side effects such as dizziness and bleeding in the eye.
Avatar f tn I have recently been put on Warfarin for Paroxysmal Atrial Fib. I feel miserable and anxious on this drug. They continue to up my dose, 11mg. at present. I have decided to quit the Warfarin but wonder how to go about this. Do I quit cold turkey or taper off? Anyone else has quit Warfarin and how did you do it?
Avatar f tn I may be wrong, but I think if they can do an angiogram, I think they can insert stents. I'm sure they have taken you off Warfarin. I had to have a major surgery for a bowel obstruction while taking another blood thinner (Plavix) and they were prepared for and dealt with that problem. If I were you, I'd pump the doctor for more information. You have very valid concerns. Keep us informed.
Avatar n tn Do to a leg blood clot I've been taking warfarin (7.5) for three years. I am 62 years old and very active. I weight lift, jog, and ride a bike. Will I have to take warfarin all of my life or at some point can I discontinue it?
Avatar m tn I have undergone aortic valve replacement surgery in 2003. Until 2 months back I was taking 150mg Ecosprin and 5mg Warfarin daily, then I was diagnosed with Hepatitis E and my INR value increased suddenly, so my doctor cut on the warfarin for few days until it dropped to <1.5 and then I started taking my warfarin again but my INR didn't increase. 2 weeks back my doctor increased my dose from 5 to 6mg but still my INR value is 1.4 and it is not increasing from past 2 months. Please help.
Avatar m tn Had all the tests, including aborted abulation. Discovered a clot on ICD lead and procedure was stopped. Now on warfarin and mexiletine. Mexiletine, 200mg, 3x daily, sometimes just does not work, usually in the evening. Just like I never took the pill. Have read about others using both mexiletime and Sotalol. Is this typically done?? My doctor wants to just switch me to sotolol, stopping mexiletine. Not sure if that will be best approach.
Avatar m tn After over a year of medication, have I not made improvement and still not considered a candidate for elective surgery?? What are my options? This discussion is related to Diagnosis of blood clot in Left Ventricle.
233622 tn?1279334905 The clearance of R-warfarin is generally half that of S-warfarin, thus as the volumes of distribution are similar, the half-life of R-warfarin is longer than that of S-warfarin. The half-life of R-warfarin ranges from 37 to 89 hours, while that of S-warfarin ranges from 21 to 43 hours. Studies with radiolabeled drug have demonstrated that up to 92% of the orally administered dose is recov-ered in urine. Very little warfarin is excreted unchanged in urine.
Monster I have been taken off Warfarin, prescribed after surgery. I possess 14 2.5mg tablets. What is the safest way for me to dispose of them?
