Avatar m tn However, the biggest concern is the passive smoke you are exposing yourself to. I think you should ask the gentleman smoking next to you in a kind and loving tone that you have quit and want to say quit so please he could smoke without harming others and if he takes it lightly then you could say that you are suffering from some disease and the doctor has advised you to avoid smoke at all costs, so may be he has pity on you.
985873 tn?1407936092 Stress, most often caused by close family members, causes me to smoke, drink & binge eat. I've been very good at working through each of these addictions.... I stopped smoking 2 years ago (after smoking for 30 years), and haven't desired a cigerette until recently.... I can drink or not drink alcohol, I don't have to drink to have fun, I function very well with or without alcohol in my life....

Avatar n tn I know this is going to sound trite, but you CAN stop smoking if you truly WANT to. I used to feel just like you, do a Rip Van Winkle and sleep through the cravings and withdrawals. I can't tell you how many times I gave into that crave just 15 minutes after I said that this was my last one! That's because I really didn't want to quit. After smoking for 40 years and using an inhaler for the last 5 of my smoking years, I decided that it was time.
Avatar f tn I quit with my first but my second and this one I couldn't but cut back from almost a whole pack a day to 1 or 2 cigarettes a day, some days none. I'm not proud of it. But so far my children have thankfully been healthy.
Avatar n tn Hi, When you are that your pregnant seems the appropriate time to quit smoking. Even passive smoking is quite dangerous. Premature, Low birth wght, oxygen deprivation, SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), cardiac related manifestations are the few of the complications which could affect both you and your child.
Avatar f tn Basically to sum up everyone, no its never safe to smoke during pregnancy and around children (or anyone for that matter) but its a big step from smoking a pkg. Find the strenght to stop completly, seek help even, because if your not going to do it for yourself do it for your baby. No one should ever tell you its safe to smoke.....i mean they even put those discusting pictures on the pkg.

5887938 tn?1376115720 Im not going to lecture anyone of course, i understand how hard it can be to stop smoking but just because one person had a healthy baby doesnt mean itll theyre all goimg to be healthy. Theres a lot of research done on smoking and cancer and a lot of other things. And just one more tiny point here, if your body is addicted and you cant stop smoking with a snap of finger, dont you think its unfair to make a newborn go threw that?
Avatar m tn I guess it is wisest to stay out of it. Although smoking at that age is particularly bad, both you and your girlfriend smoke, so it is difficult for either of you to advise or restrict the girl's habit. It is strange, though. My father was a heavy smoker, but none of my brothers or sisters, or I, smoked when we were young. This did not seem odd to me. It was just the way it was. Adults smoked. Children didn't. I wonder why your girlfriend didn't take that tack.
Avatar n tn I saw a related discussion on this, but it is not closed and I didn't think anything applied. I was out tonight in a restaurant. All of a sudden I smelled cigarette smoke, although no one was smoking. This didn't last long, but triggered some asthma. I took my inhaler. Cigarette smoke has been a trigger in past. I wondered if maybe something triggered the association from the past physically, emotionally, or mentally.
