Avatar f tn You can take a simple questionnaire to see if you are at risk for sleep apnea. There are several sites where you can take it online. One is: http://www.umm.edu/sleep/apnea_risk.htm Take the link to the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and do that first, then do the questionnaire.
Avatar m tn I would get with my doctor and ask for a sleep study. It could be a lot of things. The first thing that pops to mind when someone says they stop breathing at night is sleep apnea, but your description doesn't really sound like sleep apnea. A sleep study would be the first thing I would try. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I would advise you to consult a sleep specialist who would assess with first a sleep questionnaire, and then he may ask for a polysomnogram, which is an overnight sleep study as this helps to detect the apneas. Treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea is by CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) where air under gentle pressure is passed into the airways keeping it patent. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn Especially if she snores loudly, is overweight, has any sinus issues, or wakes up tired or with headaches. Sometimes when a person has sleep apnea they stop breathing and it jerks them awake just enough for them to move position and start breathing again. It might not be sleep apnea, but it's something to consider.

Avatar m tn I know sleep apnea can cause anxiety and panic attacks. But can anxiety cause sleep apnea? I have a ventricular aneurysm and PVCs my doctors say are normal. I'm not overweight, I don't drink, not on meds. I've been waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air.

612551 tn?1450022175 So, the questionnaire could implicate two possibilities, whether you are having adequate REM phase sleep. This can be interrupted, if you have sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea. OSA can also cause hypoxia. Another possibility is disorders related to dreaming could occur with REM sleep behavior disorders (trouble mares). Here the person acts out the dreams. Good Luck with your sleep study. Avatar n tn I forget the number, but a high percentage of patients with heart failure have sleep disordered breathing. If you have sleep apnea and have been physician-ordered to use CPAP, then you really need to do so.
Avatar m tn This episode happens nearly almost day, like a good amount of children my age I use marijuana in a variety of ways somewhat often (1-2 times a week) Any of the nights that I go to sleep while high or buzzed I have no sleep apnea problem and I fall straight to sleep. I would say that this is due to the CBD in marijuana but often times I vaporize or consume edibles which is mostly THC and still receive the same positive sleeping effects.

Avatar n tn His sleep doctor prescribed this for sleep apnea. Is this really safe? He is supposed to use his CPAP machine along with the meds., but he has not used the machine in months. Is this really good, safe intelligent treatment for sleep apnea?
Avatar m tn I feel this fluttering sensation in my chest - I found out a few months ago that my cholesterol was very close to 400 - I was put on medication but haven't been back for a check up yet. I don't have any health insurance and the clinic I went to was not the best - the doc seemed to want to dismiss everything I told her about me... 50 lb weight gain in 2 years... hot flashes, night sweats (this has gone on since I was 38 and am now 54).
