Avatar m tn Pain under the left shoulder blade is usually a referred pain from abdomen like stomach ulcers, pancreatitis, or from the chest like in heart attack, pericarditis, pleuritis, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, lung cancer and aortic dissection. It could also be a pain due to acidity and acid reflux. If heart issues have been seriously looked into then lung, pancreas and acidity related issues should be ruled out. Since the pain is referred to arm too pericarditis should be ruled out.
1309556 tn?1274282092 Sometimes problems with neck, spine, gall bladder, liver or stomach may also cause chest pain. Usually it is difficult to decide what to do when you have chest pain. The main concern is rule out life threatening conditions like heart attack, blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism) and tear in the main artery (aortic dissection). Besides a detailed history and physical examination, following are the usual investigations done to find out the cause of chest pain: 1. Electrocardiogram 2.
Avatar n tn for the past one week i am feeling heavy pain on my left side just right side below the nipple. when i take deep breath then also it hurts.
Avatar f tn Pleuritis and Pulmonary embolism are other possibilities causing shortness of breath with chest pain and referred pain to left shoulder. A CT scan of the chest can rule out both. Chances are that you could be having gastro esophageal reflux (GERD), where the food in your stomach is thrown up into your food pipe or esophagus. This also causes burning sensation or discomfort in the chest area.
Avatar m tn Two days ago I had a sudden onset of severe pain in my chest ,left to the sternum.I can say the pain is some where aroud the sixth rib, near to the sternum. I can't clearly differentiate the pain, whether it is muscular or in the bone. The pain didn't go away by itself and is persistent from two days.( I was expecting it to be Precordial catch syndrome, which is relieved in few seconds to few minutes and is very common) . The pain exacerbate by over inhaling or exhaling.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever had those? Do these symptoms sound like it could be a possibility? Chest pain from the middle to the left, middle and left back and shoulder pain, loss of appetite, and nausea.
Avatar n tn ve had some pain in my upper left and right chest area at different times and not lasting long. The pain is not bad and it doesn't last long and it is usually accompanied with belching or gas. I also have a history of asthma too. Any idea of what might be causing this pain since initial test seem to rule out cardiac problems. No one in my family has a history of cardiac problems either.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I can hear and understand that you are very frustrated and the "not knowing what is wrong" part can make one feel depressed and anxious at times. Typical heart pains, funny enough, will not be at the left side of your chest. It sounds like you have a nerve that is stuck somewhere and have you ever considered seing a Neurologist for an MRI? I am talking out of experience...

Avatar f tn In some patients, however, the pain may be sharp or pressure-like, rather than burning. Such pain can mimic heart pain (angina). In other patients, the pain may extend to the back. Since acid reflux is more common after meals, heartburn is more common after meals. Heartburn is also more common when individuals lie down because without the effects of gravity, reflux occurs more easily, and acid is returned to the stomach more slowly. Many patients with GERD are awakened from sleep by heartburn.
Avatar n tn The problem has been that this chest pain has not ceased since Sunday. Originally my chest pain was located on the left area of my chest by the ribcage and would float around my pectoral area. On Thursday the 21st I went to my family doctor. I told her the story that I tell you now. She ran an EKG on me, took my pulse, and measured my blood pressure. All was fine. She prescribed me prescription strength Ibuprofen (600 MG) and told me to take this three times a day for the next week.
Avatar m tn Went for an ultrasound today and noticed strange chest pain when they had me hold my breath. It only happens when I hold my breath and I am laying on my right side, and the chest pain is about an inch to the right of my left nipple. Like a stab that intensifies the longer I hold my breath. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn I learned a trick from my mom on how to deal with it. Lay on your left side with your right leg pulled up to your chest or stomach (a comfortable position). It helps me a lot and doesn't take too long to relieve the pain. But if it doesn't help at all in around an hour then maybe you should atleast call a hospital and ask for their opinion about it. And hospitals also have a financial help thing that I also do! I hope that this helped!
4250330 tn?1388621179 Thank you I actually went to the doctor a few weeks ago cause I was having chest pains and a little bit of stomach pain. And they did an ultrasound on my gallbladder and a bunch of other stuff. They made me hold my breath for a couple seconds every time they would take a picture because I had gas built up. And they also told me I have a cyst on my liver.. I still get the chest pains along with dizziness I get that mostly when I'm laying down trying to go to sleep..
Avatar n tn Listen, I get HORRIBLE stomach pain from any artificial sweeteners. Could it be that? Her symptoms sound so much like mine when I eat Splenda, Equal, Aspartame, etc. Be careful it's in so much, diet soda, candy, lots of things. Splenda is usually listed as Sucralose in ingredients. Hope she is doing better now?
Avatar m tn It is more under the nipple to left side of my chest and left arm sometimes. I also get pain in my back sort of between shoulder blades when it is really bad. I have had ekg, reads normal ,BP 123/87 no shortness of breath. My cholesterol levels, bad cholesterol was below slightly do not remember exact number. Good cholesterol was slightly higher than normal but was told that helps to fight coronery disease.I do not have insurance and both my wife and I recently lost our jobs.
Avatar n tn Hello! I have been having a dull aching pain in my chest mainly left side, back pain and some occasional arm pain. I do have GERD and had my gallbladder out in 2003. I saw my doc and she thinks its just a flare up of GERDs but has set me up to have a stress echo. I am driving myself nuts wondering is the heart related, am i ignoring signs of a heart condition. My doc doesnt seem so worried but i have small children and cant help but wonder am i taking the right measures promptly.
Avatar f tn It manifests itself as a very intense, sharp pain, typically at the left side of the chest, which is worse when taking breaths. Patients often think that they are having a heart attack which causes them to panic. This pain typically lasts from 30 seconds to a few minutes. Though some episodes last just a few breaths, in rare cases they can persist for up to 30 minutes. In most cases the pain is resolved quickly and completely. The cause of PCS is unknown.
Avatar f tn Three years ago, while pregnant with my daughter I started to feel pain under my left rib cage. The docker thought it was her feet brushing against my ribs. Three years later, I am still in pain. Now the pain won't go away. I have had every test under the sun done. Endoscopy, colonoscopy, upper gi, stress test, heart ultra sound, EKG, five other types of ultrasounds ranging from uterus to spleen to gallbladder. I have had chest x rays too. Recently the pain is so bad sometimes it wakes me.
Avatar f tn I have been having horrible chest pain for four years now and it feels like knives stabbing into my chest. At first it was only on my left side and would last a couple of seconds to an hour. Now it has obviously gotten much worse at will last up to two days at a time, and ocassionally on my right side as well. When this happens I generally have a pain that is also in my left shoulder - same feeling just like a knife stabbing me.
