Common Questions and Answers about Stomach gas methane

Avatar f tn Im posting this in hopes that somebody out there is going through the same thing as me and has found a "cure"! I get heart palpitations and episodes of afib from stomach and intestinal gas. Been to the doc, heart is fine, blood work is fine, blah blah blah. Been reading FAR too many posts where Dr's do NOT believe that there is a connection between stomach issues and heart rhythm and Im starting to get VERY frustrated.
Avatar f tn There are conditions that can cause unusual odors including too much fat in your stool and methane gas from certain bacteria. If you are lactose intolerant and drink or eat milk products, your bowel movements will smell and you will be gassy. You could also have a problem with parasites or colon inflammation. The bowel also is greatly affected by an overload of toxins, which of course chemo is.
Avatar m tn Hi Just wondered if anyone, during palpitations, feels that their stomach is empty and brings up a lot of wind? I seem to get this a lot although not all the time. I hate eating because i get palpitations and feel absolutely drained after it. It doesnt matter what I eat. I am vegetarian and eat a lot of dairy (cheese I love). I also get a gloop feeling in the middle of the chest bone and this worries me.
586636 tn?1223131279 I felt like I had acid or something in my stomach. It was awful. But I eventually went home. After I was released, I was still really sick. I have these horrible flu-like symptoms and I'm still having heart palpitations that make it seem like my heart is going to jump out my chest any minute! I went to the hospital again and stayed for 2 1/2 days.
Avatar n tn Flatulence is produced from the normal digestion process as food is broken down by acid and enzymes producing carbon dioxide, methane gas, and other elements. Usually when you have a bowel movement, the bowels are expelled as waste, and most of the flatulence should disappear, but maybe not. There are muscle contractions that move food through your intestines like a "car wash".
Avatar m tn mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain and gas. The gas is made up primarily of carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and may include methane, that is mixed with nitrogen and oxygen from room air that is inhaled or swallowed. The carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and methane are produced by bacteria in the large intestine while they digest undigested food that reaches the large intestine.
Avatar m tn 1. Helycobacter pylori infection of the stomach. Dx is by urea breath test for H. pylori. 2. Gastroparesis (slow gastric emptying). Dx is by stomach emptying test. Diet changes don't help much. Avoiding acidic foods may lessen stomach burning and heartburn.
Avatar n tn Hi I am a 17-year-old healthy male, I was diagnosed with IBS & GERD around Novemberish of last year (2009) by my pediatrician and was prescribed medications upon medications, but none of them seemed to that led me to believe I had something far more serious, because I even tried to switch up my diet and despite all of that, I still wasn't feeling good and I had missed a total of 12 days of school because of all this madness.
1704915 tn?1357604854 ) Mannometry = lower esophagus is weak causing the trapped air and pains (taking Aciphex and Gas X for this, avoiding gas causing/acid causing foods) 4.) Empty Stomach Study = stomach is emptying in a normal range 5.) Physical Therapy for pelvic floor dysfunction = not the cause of constipation. When this did not work I begged my gi dr to do a colonoscopy to set my mind at ease. 6.) Colonoscopy = they found I have a very long and very torturous colon..
Avatar f tn If celiac, Crohn’s and other problems have been ruled out then lactose intolerance and IBS are the possibilities. Gas in stomach, burping, diarrhea all go in favor of IBS. Pancreatic enzyme disorders, liver dysfunction, HIV, cancer of the gut, and infections by parasites other than giardia can all cause persisting diarrhea. Lyme and lupus are other possibilities that present this way. Please discuss this with your doctor (GI doctor). Take care!
Avatar m tn I'm a 29 y/o male. For 3+ years now I've head diarrhea and upset stomach that is caused primarily by starch and sugars. I figured this out by trial and error during the first few months. First, by attempting to go on a BRAT diet during a period of gastrointestinal distress. That made it worse. It seems to be that certain things make it much worse - peaches, apples, bananas... fruits are probably the worst offenders. Breads and lactose-containing foods don't sit well either.
Avatar f tn i really don't know what to do. my mouth and stomach is acidic and i think i have a lot of gas in my stomach. my doctors says i'm normal to my findings.
Avatar n tn Recent research showed that patients with bloating symptoms often have retention of gas in the small bowel, and even possibly reflux from gas in stomach. So, personally I think this could in many people be a cause of gas related symptoms. I also have this chest tightness, increasingly after meals. When I inhale very deeply through my nose, it induces a belch, yes.
Avatar n tn Smelling like foul gas when you don't know it? Passing gas and not being able to smell it yourself but others can? Passing gas and having absolutely no knowledge of it? I'd also like to impart some info I got from a website not too long ago. I wish I still had the address. However, this is what it said: the body naturally expells gas voluntarilly and INVOLUNTARILLY. Everyone passes gas without knowing it.
Avatar n tn The unpleasant odor of flatulence comes from bacteria in the large intestine that release small amounts of gases that contain hydrogen sulfide and methane. Most gas is produced when bacteria in your colon (large intestine) ferment carbohydrates that weren't digested completely in your small intestine. Your body does not digest and absorb some carbohydrates (the sugar, starches, and fiber found in many foods) in the small intestine because of a shortage or absence of certain enzymes.
Avatar m tn when the patient's intestinal environment deteriorates, a large amount of methane and other harmful gases are produced. In some cases, the large intestine pumps the gas into the blood vessel and eventually passes through the sweat glands. Thus the patients’ sweat glands smell like methane. The conjecture above explains the principle that the body smells foul, so how do you test the validity of the conjecture? In fact, we can verify it by the following three experiments.
Avatar n tn I get the sulfur burps, wich i cannot tolerate so i won't burp otherwise i'll throw up and i would rather have the stomach flu than what i taste with this! I get the urge to have to eliminate but am unable. Bad stomach gas and foul when released. Have to stay in bed and this really messes with my life! I notice it has gotten worse and more frequent after i had my baby girl 6 months ago.
Avatar f tn If you fart consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb
Avatar m tn RavenC's comments that allergens couldn't get from the intestines to the air around us might be correct - I don't know for sure because I'm not a medical researcher (although I am in graduate school in a scientific discipline) - but instead of allergens or spores, couldn't it also be some kind of gas, such as methane or even ozone, which some people definitely are allergic to? The fundamental assumption of TMAU is that a substance (i.e.
Avatar f tn the odor from tmau2 is most likely a metabolite (waste product) of the synthesis of the pathogen/bacteria/fungus in the gut and no, I don't think that the odor itself travels in waves like electricity or sound. If anything, the tmau2 odor is just a regular gas, however a very alkaline gas which is irritating (oven cleaner is very alkaline and very irritating). That's why not all people with tmau have patm. I cause patm sometimes when I can smell an odor and sometimes there is no odor.
Avatar m tn Clinical Chemistry Many people, including people with primary or secondary TMAU diagnosis, as well as those who are negative, have wide ranging odors. From gas/fecal to rotten egg and all sorts. Do you have a theory on this ? “Body odour is caused by the release of volatile compounds from the skin in sweat. Just as TMA is produced in the gut by bacteria, there are probably many other volatile compounds which are naturally produced – like skatole which has a faecal odour.
Avatar n tn if you are starving (again b/c of diarrhea and the fungus competing for the sugar) as soon as you eat you will be very tired/sleepy Your doctors seem to be chasing symptoms and forgetting about looking for a cause. Stomach ulcers were stress/runs in family/spicy food.....turns out it is H.Pylori bacterium. Arthritis...again was runs in family/cold work environments, bacteria. Heart disease.....was poor genetics, IE runs in caused by viruses.
Avatar n tn It's very heartbreaking to know I am the cause of it. Yesterday at the gas station I went to pay the lady working there and she started rubbing her nose and eyes. Then, she started yawning. I hate it so much! I too have nothing positive to say, but hang in there guys. I'm staying in prayer over this.
Avatar n tn Wow, Include me in too. I am here for vibrating in my stomach and somehow came across this.Yep I got an indent in top front of my head. I noticed about 2 months ago and I thought about having it checked out but didnt. I have noticed mine has filled in for now. I dont know why or how it happened but its not as deep as it was. Unless it starts getting deeper I will probably not worry so much about it.
Avatar n tn What makes it worse is it's not a simple toss and turn all night, it's an almost indesribable twisting, knawing feeling in the pit of my stomach that forces me out of bed, even though I'm so tired I can't hold my head up. I've tried having a couple drinks before bed, over the counter sleep meds, even got some halcion from a friend, all to no avail. How long can I expect this to last, or is there something I can do to lessen the pain in the meantime?
