Avatar n tn My hypothyroidism is causing me to have leg cramping, especially during rigourous excersize. I was told that if I take potassium the cramps should lessen, but my hypothyroidism also caused me to develop high cholesterol. Is it bad to take a potassium pill of 99mg when you have high cholesterol? Mine is about 210.
Avatar n tn I'm newly diagnosed diabetic and taking Metformin 500mg 2x a day. I have been taking it for about 10 days and have had the worse cramps and stomach pain! I'm not sure if it is my pre menstrual, which never feels like this, or the new medication. Has anyone had stomach pains or cramps as side effect of Metformin? I'm also taking Lisinopril-HTCZ.
Avatar f tn I have leg cramps on a weekly basis. Some are so bad they make me sick to my stomach. What do you think could be the cause of this?

Avatar f tn For 3 months now (off and on) I have been feeling movement in my stomach. I know this sounds wierd but, I am starting to worry. I have a 2 year old son and this feels exactly live fetal movement. However, I know that I am not pregnant. I can feel it on the outside of my stomach (with my hand) and sometimes I can actually see my stomach move. At first I thought maybe it was gas but I am pretty certain that it isn't.
Avatar f tn Never really known ibuprofen to be linked to GI issues with occasional use, i.e. stomach cramps related to menstruation. I have GERD myself and I use ibuprofen occasionally. Warm tea is good.............hot water bottle is good.
Avatar f tn I have suffered for years from occassional cramping deep within my rib cage. I thought it was because I am sedentary but exercise - yoga, strength training, etc. - did not help. I tried calcium supplements but they didn't seem to work either. Over time, the cramping became more frequent, and I noticed that some days I would get cramps in my feet and in my legs. I did not have to be doing anything strenuous to provoke the cramping.
1921443 tn?1322656010 Having a diet that doesnt have enough potassium may cause muscle cramps so try to add potassium rich foods and see if that helps. Potassium helps with the electrical conduction of muscles and helps with movement. I use bananas when I have this problem. Good luck to you and hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Hi I have been suffering for some time now with my muscles cramping in my feet, legs, in my stomach and has also started now in my neck which feels like my throat is closing in like if you are wearing a polo neck and it is to tight. If anyone could help me it would be great it is a very painful condition and horrible when you feel like you choking.
Avatar n tn Abnormal potassium levels may cause symptoms such as muscle cramps or weakness, nausea, diarrhea, frequent urination, dehydration, low blood pressure, confusion, irritability, paralysis, and changes in heart rhythm." It does not specify which side effects are from potassium being too high and which are associated with it being too low, but you could certainly google "potassium too high" and get some good information.
Avatar n tn One of the side effects of steroids can be low potassium and muscle cramping can be a symptom of that. The side effects of steroids are more readily seen when taken orally, however, I can attest to the fact that they do happen with injections also! Try increasing both your fluid intake (dehydration can also cause muscle cramping) and potassium rich foods (bananas, potatoes, tomatoes, etc.) to see if this helps.
539156 tn?1281818356 My Rheumatologist told me that old fashioned Quinine was good for cramps. The easier way to do it, would be to supplement your diet with potassium, as Quix says. Morale of this story....DO NOT point your toes anymore. LOL That kind of exercise, as I have learned the hard way, is that I can no longer do it without severe pain. If you only have these cramps when you point your toes, I would not take a supplement.
Avatar f tn For about a week now my brother has been cramping in his stomach, arms, hands and legs. and the cramping has gotten stronger over the week. After coughing or sitting up the cramps or spasms intensify. Avatar f tn Why ami having very bad cramps in my legs??? They seem to always get worst at night please help!!!
Avatar f tn ve been having cramps all over my body over the past few days. The cramps occur mostly in my hands, but also in my neck, stomach, arms, legs and feet. I went to the doctor yesterday to get my blood tested to check my thyroid and vitamin/mineral levels. All the tests came back normal. I have had a bad shoulder for about 5 years now that is from weight lifting, I'm not sure if this could be a cause of my cramps or not? This is causing me to have severe anxiety about what it could be.
1770029 tn?1325802355 Hi and sorry you are ill. There is no such thing as "stomach flu" meaning the influenza virus does not cause flu in the stomach. It is considered gastroenteritis. The symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, low grade fever up to 100 degrees and possible cramps are caused by many things, virus or bacterial. However, the most common cause is a virus called Norovirus. It is spead from person to person by fecal oral contamination.
Avatar f tn Never had one before but been having pretty bad cramps in lower abdomen that go round to my back off and on all day. I'm 14+5 and had a pretty upset stomach Thursday and Friday, lost a lot of fluid. Been drinking water and Gatorade (for low potassium they found at er when I went in for fluid), and other than the cramps I'm starting to feel better. The doc said the low potassium was bad for baby. Just wondering if the dehydration and hypokalemia is causing me to miscarry.
Avatar n tn Tonight I went to the hot tub at the YMCA and to the therapy pool(where I got leg cramps) Now I seem to be getting the cramps during the day. My feet hurt also. My urine numbers back in November were also more than double the highest in Oxalates, uric, phosphurus and every one except Potassium, which was only slightly low. I also thought that the problem was maybe I wasn't getting enough sleep (4-7), so I tried getting more.
Avatar f tn Knock on wood, I have only had a few minor cramps in the lower legs. But no inner thigh cramps as of yet. Those are the worst. Drinking primarily water this time. Lots of water.
Avatar f tn Besides the vascular system, make sure your potassium is not low (get a blood test through your doctor), as low potassium can cause muscle cramps. Another thing that can cause them are a lot of the cholesterol lowering statin drugs. So, if you are taking one of those talk to your doctor. You might also want to consider getting referred to a gastrointestinal specialist about your stomach swelling and hurting after you eat.
1972798 tn?1355549267 So I have been awake since 145 (10 hours now) this morning due to leg cramps which started last night that were so persistant nothing would take them away.. Long story short after taking baths, using a heating pad, massaging, whining, taking tylonol and stretching with nothing even touch the pain I ended up in ER for a leg ultrasound to rule out blood clot and blood work to be sure calcium and potassium were ok.
Avatar n tn These muscle cramps can have many possible causes including hormonal imbalances, dehydration, low levels of potassium or calcium in the blood, side effects of medication, or, more seriously, diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and neuropathy.[6] They are also a common complaint during pregnancy or for the elderly.[7] most of the time it is from extreme workouts. more common reasons would be dehydration and low potassium or calcium. eat a banana, drink some milk and see if that helps.
Avatar m tn Low potassium levels can also cause the cramping. I get horrible cramps if I don't take a daily potassium. You should ask your doctor to test your levels to make sure it's adequate. Vitamin B12 deficiency can also cause brain fog, so that's another test you might want to get.
Avatar n tn Hello! I'm 34 weeks and 5 days and I have bin having severe cramps in my hips in my lower abdomen in my legs and I was just wondering is that normal?
Avatar f tn I keep getting painful cramps in my legs. What can I do to stop the cramping?
