Avatar m tn My daughter, age 15, had to be rushed to the ER about 4 weeks ago for severe abdominal pain. After hours of tests and ultrasounds, they finally came across a complex cyst 4.5 cm in diameter. The GYN put her on birth control and the unbearable pain seemed to be getting better until yesterday. I know it's not likely, but what are the odds of ovarian cancer in teen? Being a complex cyst really worries me.
Avatar m tn Ultrasound of ovarian cysts is not an exact science. Most ovarian cysts are benign and most go away in 2 to 3 cycles / months. Yours is still small which is also good. If you do not have a family history / genetic predisposition for ovarian cancer then your lifetime risk is less than 2% (1.3% per government statistics). If there is a concern about malignancy, you will want to see a gynecologic oncologist.
Avatar m tn Ovarian cysts are common and almost always benign (non-cancerous) including ones that have some suspicious traits. A woman's lifetime risk of ovarian cancer (OC) is less than 2% (1.3% per U.S. government statistics). Imaging is not exact and doctors have to cover their bases hence the reason for saying malignancy cannot be ruled out. Biopsy is the only way to know for sure Erratic bleeding is pretty much the norm during perimenopause.
Avatar m tn I recently went to the doctor to follow up on nausea that I have had for many years which was always dismissed. I also recently started developing left side abdominal pain and every so often right side pain which would come and go. I went to the dr on Tuesday and she thought I had shingles even though no rash. Long story short, she also sent me for a pelvic ultrasound and she called today to say that I have a complicated right ovarian cyst. I am completing losing my mind.
Avatar f tn 3% per U.S. SEER / cancer statistics). Benign (non-cancerous) ovarian cysts are actually more common in post-menopausal women than most people (even doctors) realize. Most cysts resolve on their own in a few months or so. This website may be helpful to you - http://ovaryresearch.com/ovarian_cysts.htm. Let us know what you find out. Hopefully, it's nothing of concern.
Avatar n tn Not that you have cancer, because most cysts are benign, and OVCA is considered rare, but because the onoc is the most experienced to clean up in the remote case that it is cancer. At the very least, tell youir surgeon that you would like the onoc standing by just in case. Yes endo can raise the CA125 levels as can many other things, no diagnosis should ever be made on just the numbers alone. the only true dx is made from a path report on tissue removed during biopsy or surgery.
Avatar n tn I have been on the birth control since I was in the military. At the age of 18 is when I started with the birth control. I was diagnosed with a blood clot in Sept in my right leg. Then in November while I was on the blood thinners I ended up having rectal bleeding and I went back to the hospital again. Then in December I returned to the hospital again because my primary physician said that I had internal bleeding and they said that I was extremely anemic.
Avatar m tn Most ovarian cysts are benign and resolve on their own in 2 to 3 cycles. Do you know the type of these cysts? The ultrasound report should give some details. Are you still menstruating and is your cycle regular (aside from the spotting)? You did not say what day of your cycle the ultrasound was done. It is normal for the lining to get up to 16mm in the second half of the cycle.
Avatar f tn A CT scan can get a pretty detailed look at ovarian cysts so your doctor saying it is not cancer has a fairly high degree of accuracy. Some traits they use to gauge malignancy potential are thickness of the walls, number of septations, papillary projections, solid matter versus fluid, pelvic ascites. Of course, the tissue will still need to be biopsied to be sure. MOST ovarian cysts, including complex ones, are benign.
Avatar n tn ann There is a forum especially for women with ovarian cysts. The women there are full of knowledge about cysts and I am sure that you will find the answers you seek over there, plus a lot of support. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn t want to scare you at all, but time is of the ESSENCE when you are dealing with ovarian cancer. The sooner you catch it, the better chances you have of beating it. Just my two cents...
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome to the forum. I have to start by saying that I am a bit surprised that your gynecologist waited so long to remove a complex cyst. From all I understand, complex cysts rarely resolve on their own, plus with a complex cyst there is a increase that the cyst can be cancerous (NOT SAYING IT IS!!). The good news is that if your gynecologist suspected cancer, they would not be waiting so long for surgery, plus your cyst has not increased in size.
Avatar m tn For past few years every month a time comes when i suffer from inappetance, nausea followed by breast tenderness and swollen lymph node around my breast, subscapula and right inguinal area. Finally there is a dull pain in area just above right side of my pelvis , frequent urination and a thick mucus discharge comes out of my genitalia in large volume with some abdominal discomfort. Its like pseudopregnancy except for that im a virgin. I happend to run so many test like ultrasound and fnac etc.
Avatar f tn But there was no sign of cancer. The statistics say 90-95% of ovarian cysts are benign. I know we all worry about being in the other 5% or so. But the CA125 number is good for you. What would be more worrisome is if it was high. CA125 in younger women can be elevated for so many other reasons besides cancer that it ends up scaring people. In your case it's a good reading. Most likely your surgery will go smoothly and your pregnancy will continue without much problem.
Avatar f tn Hi.. First of all i would like to thank this forum to all the girls here sharing their story,I have few post here I am here again, still searching for the answer and still worried I don't want to think that i have a ''OVARIAN CANCER''no one like to have cancer, I have MRI SCAN & BLOOD TEST yesterday, my next apointment is Jan.16.. still have lots of pain nearly 2 months still waiting for 2 weeks to meet my Dr. my last period Dec.
Avatar n tn I am having a hysterectomy next week for a 9 cm fibroid and a 7 cm complex ovarian cyst. The doctor is more concerned about the cyst than the fibroid. She said the complex cysts are more "worriesome" than the simple cysts. She does not think it is cancer, but said she wouldn't know for sure until surgery. I am thinking the worst and very upset. Does the size of the cyst indicate cancer? I don't know how long it's been there.
Avatar n tn I've had a few ovarian cysts in the past 7 years. I was just wondering if they can affect my chances of getting pregnant?
Avatar f tn Hi there and welcome. Sorry you are having such discomfort. cysts in the ovaries is not uncommon. I've had simple cysts and passed them which seems like a very heavy period with bad cramps. Some women have many cysts and a disorder called polycystic ovarian syndrome. Ovarian cancer is often silent. It's a seeding cancer meaning tumors are very tiny and spread like sand blowing in the wind. They do grow but it takes a bit of time.
Avatar f tn Healthy ovaries are removed at the time of hysterectomy around 70% of the time despite the vital functions (lifelong hormone production) of these endocrine glands. All my parts were removed for a 9.5cm complex cyst that was shown to be benign on frozen section. My surgeon (long-time gynecologist) even waited for the results of the frozen section and then proceeded to remove the rest of my organs. If there is concern of ovarian cancer, you should see a gynecologic oncologist.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if someone could help me clarify a few questions. I am 41 years old, perimenopausal and was diagnosed with a 5 cm complex ovarian cyst on my left ovary in early August. I had a 2nd ultrasound at the end of August that showed it was still there but had not increased in size - although my uterus was the size of a 12 wk. pregnancy (a fibroid and some endometriosis she thinks). My CA-125 came back at 16. I am scheduled for a 3rd ultrasound at the end of Sept.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for surgery on Sept 7. I know 99% of dermoid cysts are benign, but do the odds of malignancy get greater if the following statistics are present? 1) Maternal grandmother past away from breast cancer, 2) After a biopsy of my cervix in 2004 a doctor told me if it was put off any longer, I would have had cervical cancer, and 3) I had to have ultrasounds every two weeks while pregnant with my last 2 children (ages 2 & 3) and never was I told of any cysts.
Avatar m tn I have had several friends who thought they had Ovarian Cancer but when they got in there the tumors were benign. If it is Cancer it is not the end of the world. The statistics on Ovarian Cancer are old. They now call Ovarian Cancer a chronic illness like diabetes. You deal with it but you can live a fairly normal life. I am stage 4 Ovarian and I ride horses, hike, camp, train dogs, and have a happy life. Even with Stage 4 I am no where near dead.
Avatar f tn 8 septated fluid density structure in the right ovary which is posteriorly in the culdesac and measures 6.1x5.0x5.
2042958 tn?1329985977 Women can take supplementary iodine to ward off breast and ovarian cysts and cancer. You might want to find out if you are deficient in iodine.
Avatar n tn Up to 14% of women that have gone through menopause get cysts. There is a wide range of normal for size of ovaries. Ovarian cancer is hard to predict and size of ovaries is not used to do so. But what prompted this question? Are you having issues with your ovaries? Or did you have a concerning exam?
Avatar f tn 4% of getting Ovarian cancer in her life time. At your age the statistics are even lower. If you have cysts on both ovaries than you have even less of a chance. Most times they can see ovarian cancer on an ultrasound. By the time you have symptoms it is progressed enough to see on an ultrasound. Over 98% of ovarian cysts are benign even big ones. My symptoms were anorexia, First bleeding almost every day for two year then no period at all.
Avatar f tn Even though the frozen section done while I was under anesthesia was benign, he went ahead and removed the rest of my sex organs (uterus, both ovaries, both tubes). I have been suffering the medically documented after-effects ever since (8+ years). I wish I had realized how frequently women's sex organs are unnecessarily removed. I would have done things VERY differently including abandoning my gynecologist of 20 years. Hoping yours is nothing serious!
