Staph infection wound

Common Questions and Answers about Staph infection wound

infection

Avatar m tn A staph infection is indeed contagious. Typically, to avoid transmission, thorough hand washing, and avoiding contact with any drainage, and the wound itself should be sufficient. Staph isn't sexually transmitted, so you don't have to avoid intimacy. I also wanted to address Amey's post above.
Avatar m tn I have been researching and it seems as though it could have been MRSA or Staph (my wound was similar to those I saw on google)--red, bleeding, puss, crater like wound, hot to the touch. I am worried now that I have not taken the right measures in taking care of this. Although the wound has closed and I feel and seem okay (minus the bump) is it possible that I could have long term effects that I am not recognizing immediately?
Avatar m tn But it is also present on the skin normally and so when you scratched it you probably broke the skin and created the wound and infection. But, Staph aureus can cause boils, furuncles, impetigo, and it is possible to get it into your blood stream usually from a wound. Were you treated for it? If the wound is gone you are probably ok. Just don't scratch the area. If the wound gets worse and/or if you have a fever then you should go to the doctor. Staph in general is fairly congagious.
Avatar m tn A friend of mine has a staph infection in the hip. can the staph infection be spread to others? if so how?
Avatar n tn the material cultured from my leg grew staph aureus and i have been on iv vancomycin via picc line for the past 4 weeks. the wound was left open to heal by secondary intent and i had a wound vac for several weeks and now the remaining open wound gets a wet to dry dressing once daily. i had an angioseal placed at the time of the cath. is this something that occurs commonly post catheterization? staph is usually a skin infection not an internal infection......
Avatar f tn If the pus was present, I would think it was a staph infection. Even though it might not be a staph infection, the fact that it is getting bigger could mean that more and more of her skin, tissue, muscle, could suffer from irreversible damage. If she is feeling poorly that could mean an infection is spreading that the current course of antibiotics is not healing. Please get a second opinion. Your Mom deserves a second look.
Avatar n tn And how do you know you have a staph infection again? My son has had a staph infection and it was initially very localized but it spread to his blood stream overnight and he literally had the craters over his entire body head to toe at intervals. Was very frightening. Luckily he did respond to antibiotics. I've read that when staph recurs you need to change your diet to all healthy, get rest, build your immune system.
Avatar f tn Two weeks is more than sufficient time for sutures to be left in place with a hand injury. If there is an infection, then the wound might open and should remain open to allow drainage and resolution of the infection..
Avatar f tn Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like? Be careful not to touch it without washing your hands and anything you touched wipe down surfaces and the water handle etc. with disinfectant wipes. Wash towels and washrags if you used them after touching the wound or sore.
Avatar m tn My son had a staph infection from a wound. He got a small rug burn on his knee. Not thinking it was a big deal, after the first day, I didn't pay much attention to it. He put band aids on it. Until one week later when he said something was wrong with it. I looked and holy cow, it was a pus filled crater. We went to the doctor the next day who diagnosed strep and he got a topical antibiotic.
Avatar n tn Sounds like the pus is starting to come out. But if you pick a staph infection it isn't like a pimple it will spread the infection. Try not to touch it. Wash you hands often and use clean towels. You may want to go back to the doctor since you opened it up. If it isn't getting better they may need to change the antibiotic.
4280431 tn?1352404281 He has a wound and a colostamy bag, and his wound is almost closed. (had it opened again for a staph infection, which is gone) He has pain in the stomach, gets very tired quickly after a walk and is barely eating. Is it normal, or should he see his Dr. sooner than his appointment in a week or two? Thank you very much.
Avatar f tn d been on morphine for a week and other drug cocktails. I had a staph infection even with intensive care around my stapling, they slammed Vancomycin in my system as soon as they saw the tell tale signs, it's pretty common these days with our generation being given anti-biotics at every sniffle. That's why they have those Public announcements on tv not to take anti-biotics.
Avatar m tn Staph infections can be very difficult to treat. Staph bacteria can produce toxins and can cause various infections (wound, skin, toxins and if unlucky, septicemia/bacteremia). It may be killed by chlorine in the water but will not be killed on the skin especially if the bacteria is deeper and protected by the skin and tissue. The chlorine level may not be high enough to actually kill off the bacteria especially since some strains of Staph. auerus tend to be pretty tough.
Avatar n tn 6 what is the difference between herpes wound and staph infection wound . is it the same. do they both have access to the blood stream . 7-i have heard that the wound has to pressed for couple of minutes for the blood to go in.
Avatar f tn Gram-positive bacteria are bacteria that give a positive result in the Gram stain test, which is traditionally used to quickly classify bacteria into two broad categories according to their cell wall. Cocci means sphere-shaped. there are 2 gram positive cocci bacteria that are pathogenic to humans, Streptococcus and Staphylococcus. So basically while there was no Staph "Infection", there was probably staph bacteria present.
Avatar n tn s from laying down so much and the doctor said its a strong possibility of it being infected. Maybe even staph infection. I try to refrain from handling her clothing and bedding. Should I try to stay away from her as much as possible?
Avatar n tn When the test results came back she said the wound cultures showed i had a staph infection. I asked her if she was sure thats all i had to worry abotut and she said yes because if i had herpes those bumps would look more like blisters and would be painful (which they werent at all). So I thought i was worry free until i got called again stating that the herpes tests came back 2 days late and that i was positive.
Avatar f tn I understand that staphylococcus has not yet been identified as a sexually transmitted disease, however I believe this is just an assumption due to a lack of research in this specific matter. I have had three swabs over the past year (I am a female), the first two have came back negative for any STD but with a sign of yeast. I had recurrent thrush infections.
Avatar f tn About a week ago I got some kind of infection in my foot I'm not sure if it's staph infection or if it's a spider bite and waiting on the culture to come back but in the meantime the infection has spread and it my whole left leg started swelling and since then I swear I can feel something moving and it it is all the way up my body now up into my stomach there's a big old knot is visible you can see it am I going crazy. Am I going crazy my chest is tight and hurts.
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms it can be cellulitis infection but it can be possible for you to be getting this infection from your friend especially if you had some open sore or wound on the thumb. It may also be caused by staph infection from the nasal passages of individuals coming in contact with the patient. So nothing can be said with confirmation regarding the mode of entry of the organism. Apply some warm compresses and topical antiseptics.
1751415 tn?1315069443 He is terminally ill with what started out as gangrene in his toe (inoperable because of other health conditions) and has now spread to a little above his ankle. I am concerned that on top of everything else this might be a staph infection. I mentioned it to his nurses and they said they'll mention it to his wound doctor on Monday. In the meantime do those of us who visit him have anything to worry about or should we take special precautions?
Avatar f tn CAT scan today again showed nothing but minor irritation at the site of the wound. The infection is obviously persistent. More antibiotics identical to those previously prescribed have again been prescribed. Should we pay someone for a second opinion?
Avatar f tn I was kept overnight with the presence of strep and staph infection via cultures and blood. I was sent home after 2 days with a diagnosis of VRSA. I was sent home with doxycyclone and pain meds to take every 4 hours. I was told that if I don't see an improvement within 24 hours than I should be seen asap. I was seen again last night. I had a cat scan of my face. There were no abscesses noticed but small pockets of fluid.
Avatar n tn This could be a staph infection, and you need to see your doctor, especially since you've had a fever. If you can see your doctor today, that's great. If not, maybe you can go to an urgent care center. Make them do a wound culture on it to find out exactly what it is.
Avatar n tn About a year ago i broke my leg and had to have surgery, I had steel plates put in and they infected, they checked me for staph infection and but was never told if I had it. Then they operated and removed the metal from my leg, but was never put on any medications. Shortly after that surgery I began getting boils, and now I am worried what to do. The doctor will no longer see me that did the surgery in the first place. Or give me the records to see if i had staph infection in my leg.
