Common Questions and Answers about Staph infection wound

Avatar n tn It is very important to be treated right away! It is caused by an infection from an insect bite, an open wound or often in hospitals where they don't properly sterilize their tools and are used on a patient. This can be fatal so be sure to treat it ASAP!
Avatar n tn now she is back in the hospital and they said she has staph infection. she is breast feeding. Can the new baby get this from the mother and should she stop breast feeding? please help??
Avatar f tn i had a staph infection about a month and a half ago. the wound healed but the area around it is still hard and infected what should i do?
Avatar n tn Staph is not limited to HIV patients, non-HIV patients can receive skin infections from staph as well. The horror stories on the web about staph infections are due to staph aureus - which is normally found in a hospital setting. Dicloxicillin is normally a pretty good antibiotic for the treatment of this. Other medications to consider would be Keflex (Cephalexin) or Augmentin.
Avatar n tn I pack it each day changing the dressing at least 10-12 times a day, still leaks on my clothes. Got a call today from the ER, they state I have a staph infection, they will give me med. Is this normal? This stuff has a smell to it and I am still hurting and a lot of pressure. Will meds fix this and stop the draining? Please someone relieve my mind!!
Avatar n tn the material cultured from my leg grew staph aureus and i have been on iv vancomycin via picc line for the past 4 weeks. the wound was left open to heal by secondary intent and i had a wound vac for several weeks and now the remaining open wound gets a wet to dry dressing once daily. i had an angioseal placed at the time of the cath. is this something that occurs commonly post catheterization? staph is usually a skin infection not an internal infection......
Avatar m tn I have been researching and it seems as though it could have been MRSA or Staph (my wound was similar to those I saw on google)--red, bleeding, puss, crater like wound, hot to the touch. I am worried now that I have not taken the right measures in taking care of this. Although the wound has closed and I feel and seem okay (minus the bump) is it possible that I could have long term effects that I am not recognizing immediately?
Avatar m tn A friend of mine has a staph infection in the hip. can the staph infection be spread to others? if so how?
Avatar f tn (I can't recall if it's flagellated or not, which lends to the possibility of build-up and other things moving the colonies for you.) I'm confused why this is in the hysterectomy section, however? Did you develop a staph infection following a surgery? Knowing exactly what was infected and what sort of surgery/when had would also help me figure out if it's a nosocomial infection and could change how it possibly happened.
Avatar f tn Hi: For the past 10 years or so, I would get a pretty nasty staph infection in or on my nose. Bactroban did nothing, so I would end up on Bactrim, Cipro, etc. The round of AB's usually took care of things. I began to notice that these breakouts happened whenever I got a lot of sun. These infections happened only 2-3 times a year and I didn't usually worry about it. My doctor sent me to an ENT, who was pretty useless (she just told me to keep my nares moistured..???
4584130 tn?1356830891 This think is so gross, and looks like photos I looked up on staph infection. To make it worse, there are two smaller places on my hand that have formed blisters as well. Please help me with this!
Avatar f tn Two weeks is more than sufficient time for sutures to be left in place with a hand injury. If there is an infection, then the wound might open and should remain open to allow drainage and resolution of the infection..
Avatar m tn These can live normally in the skin and throat but can get into wound causing infection. Staph infections are contagious and can be transmitted with direct contact with an infected sore or wound, or with personal-care items such as razors, bandages, etc. Staph infections can range from minor skin problems to life-threatening infection such as in the heart valve lining Symptoms may present with skin symptoms such as abscess, boil, furuncle or cellulitis and needs to be managed with antibiotics.
Avatar n tn She just looked inside my nose and said that it's a sinus/staph infection. She said it's not the serious staph and that everyone has staph in their nose. She put me on a second round of antibiotic right away instead of messing around with the first round because she thought that they swelling was unusual. The antibiotic I'm on is called "Avelox" and I saw improvement with the swelling in <24 hrs. The swelling and paint is almost completely gone! What a relief!
Avatar n tn Hello, Yes,staph infection can be spread among people having close contact with infected people. It is almost always spread by direct physical contact and not through the air. Spread may also occur through indirect contact by touching objects (e.g., towels, sheets, wound dressings, clothes, workout areas, or sports equipment) contaminated by the infected skin of a person with staph bacteria. Hope this helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional doubts.
Avatar f tn The matter that is really concerning me now however, is I have an infection in the belly button wound - even the day after surgery, I was aware of a bad smell from the wound. However, without any advice on how to care for my wounds on leaving hospital (only being given painkillers) was a journey into the unknown - been through many stages with it, but presently 9th day of seepage of sometimes blood and yellow pus from wound.
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms it can be cellulitis infection but it can be possible for you to be getting this infection from your friend especially if you had some open sore or wound on the thumb. It may also be caused by staph infection from the nasal passages of individuals coming in contact with the patient. So nothing can be said with confirmation regarding the mode of entry of the organism. Apply some warm compresses and topical antiseptics.
Avatar n tn When the test results came back she said the wound cultures showed i had a staph infection. I asked her if she was sure thats all i had to worry abotut and she said yes because if i had herpes those bumps would look more like blisters and would be painful (which they werent at all). So I thought i was worry free until i got called again stating that the herpes tests came back 2 days late and that i was positive.
Avatar n tn I have been treated for a staph infection following open heart surgery for 11 months. I had a huge cavity in my chest from the infection. I was treated with two antibiotics intravenoudly for three months while a nurse treated the wound wth medication. I was then put on oral antibiotics as the wound medications continued. The surgeon said it would never close up and I should have another surgery to remove the wires and scrape the sternum. That part wasn't scary.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure, I've had my blood checked and the infection does not show up there. I saw my GP yesterday and inquired about it, and she (very condescendingly) told me that they're already tested my immune system and I'm a "very healthy person" as I currently have 2 staph infections, an ear infection, and a sinus infection. Time for a new GP? Yes, I think so.
Avatar n tn Hi there, It is possible to have recurrent MRSA infection after having had a MRSA infection at a different site on your body. A patient who has a community-type MRSA infection is more likely to have a recurrent skin infection than a patient who had a non-MRSA staph infection.Clindamycin, doxycycline; trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and linezolid are commonly used in such infections.
Avatar n tn I developed a seroma and staph infection (at which time my neurosurgeon told me that all the fat in that area had turned into “soup”) and had an I&D of the seroma on 7/16/07 with a week of IV antibiotics inpatient & I&D again on 9/11/07. I have been on IV or oral antibiotics since July 16 continuously. I have been seen at a wound care center and they have referred me to the plastic surgeon. My wound is 1.8 cm long x 1 cm wide x 10 cm deep with tunnels, and is down to the bone.
Avatar f tn My world was rocked on December 24, 2007 when I was told that I had a staph infection called MRSA. Since then I have been trying to get rid of this skin infection by taking two antibiotics, taking bleach bathes, getting lots of rest, eating right, drinking lots of water.
