Avatar f tn t keep my skin under control without being on the pill, so I saw my gyn and she suggested I might feel better if I have a steady dose of hormones instead of the varying levels Tri Sprintec provided. She prescribed Sprintec, which I will be starting next week. Could you help me understand the difference of how these two similar pills work? I know they are the same hormones, but how much do the levels differ?
Avatar f tn Hi, 'Laser treatment for melasma - A Wood's lamp test should be used to determine whether the melasma is epidermal or dermal. If the melasma is dermal, laser (or "IPL") will acually DARKEN and worsen the appearance of the spots. Dermal melasma is generally unresponsive to most treaments, and has only been found to lighten with products containing mandelic acid. In all treatments for melasma the effects are gradual and a strict avoidance of sunlight is required.
Avatar f tn Hi Kay, Here is something you may find intresting Tri-Sprintec contains female hormones and therefore alters your female gynecological symptoms. Tri-Sprintec typically causes nausea, bloating, stomach cramps, breast pain, vaginal discharge, menstrual irregularities and changes in your appetite and weight. Tri-Sprintec can affect your appearance and cause increased hair growth, loss of hair or freckling of your skin. It can cause nervousness, a headache and fatigue.
Avatar f tn I have had melasma and now have vitiligo. Around 2002-2003 I was on Paxil and I developed hot flashes and melasma. I was given a prescription bleaching creme Benoquin which removed most of the melasma but I have a couple of stubborn spots that won't go away with the creme or tri-luma. I have tried using retinol products faithfully and although my skin is soft the spots are there. Oddly enough as the melasma started to improve the vitiligo kicked in. I don't know if there is a connection.

Avatar m tn I just started using the birth control Sprintec a week ago. I had a stroke on Monday. I cannot walk well, but other than that I have recovered quickly. I will be 20 on Saturday. I am only 19. I want to know how many others are out there who have taken sprintec and either had a TIA or a stroke due the birth control...is there anyone else?
Avatar n tn Hi, Now that you have mentioned your daughter's pregnancy ,this does sound like melasma.Melasma may run n the family.Melasma associated with pregnancy may last until one has given birth and the hormones regain their equilibrium once more. Oral contraceptives may also contribute to melasma. For some melasma ,may be present for a lifetime. In your wife's case, when did she notice these dark patches? Melasma may occur in any part of the face and is usually symmetrical in distribution.
Avatar n tn My next cycle was regular 28days. One day 1 of my period I started tri-sprintec, but discontinued it after 3 pills. This month my period is now going on 5 days late and 2 pregnancy tests have been negative. Is this normal? I did have unprotected sex during this month, but my husband did not ejaculate inside of me. Please help...
Avatar m tn Hello, I am a 37 year-old male currently suffering from mild-moderate melasma and have been advised by my doctor to avoid UV/sun exposure. The melasma is localized mainly to my forehead and right cheekbone. I currently use a Kojic-Acid based treatment 2x a day, and Retin-A 2x a week. I am interested in using the a Hair Regrowth System to combat male pattern baldness.
5994222 tn?1378018692 I earlier thought it to be tan and use fairness creams. Then I found from net it could be melasma and used melacare forte for a month. It lighten the spots for some time but became even darker when stopped using. You can check on my profile photo. These spots are not 3-4 year old and increasing. Kindly advise.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have a dark spot on my cheek which I have probably had for at least a couple of years. Recently I have noticed that my entire face seems to be developing melasma (previously diagnosed in only one spot on my forehead). I now have become obsessed with one spot on my cheek, larger and darker than the rest, mainly because it has one tiny pinhead-sized 'mole' that I can feel when I put sunscreen on it. I have an appointment with the dermatologist at the end of next month.
Avatar f tn I was taking BC sprintec (3 month doses) at the time in which my BC stopped working...aka I was having a period every month instead of every three months and it was happening while on active pills. After my period, I got intense vulva irritation, felt like a stabbing knife that would come and go throughout the day. Redness and swelling of vulva. No lesions. No blisters. No fever. No tingles. I got tested for everything under the sun with the only hit was on my HSV IGM coming up...
Avatar n tn Almost like a healing bruise. The areas are smooth, and look like the melasma I have on my face. I also take Synthroid and am on birth control (not sure if this could be related to meds?) Any idea what this could be? Do I need to see a dermatologist? Thank you very much.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Sprintec for almost a month now and its caused my breasts to swell and nausea so far, but those side effects have gone away. Now my vaginal area is itchy and uncomfortable and I think it might be the pills. Should I call my doctor and set up an appointment to check and make sure its the pills and nothing serious?
Avatar n tn Ive be taking sprintec for 3months forgot to refill my prescription so I have missed 4 pills in a row sunday-wednesday they would all be blue pills. I have had intercourse with in theses days. Should I take a pregnancy test before I start back on the pill? If so when should I take the pregnancy test?
