Spotting between periods while breastfeeding

Common Questions and Answers about Spotting between periods while breastfeeding

Avatar n tn Almost anything is considered normal when it comes to your periods while breastfeeding. All women experience a time of postpartum bleeding following birth which is not considered a menstrual period. If bottle-feeding, most mothers will have their first real period not long after this. Breastfeeding, however, suppresses menstruation at least for a while. For some mothers, there may be an absence of menstruation for weeks, months, and even years while still breastfeeding.
470885 tn?1326332637 My Dr. put me on BC pills that were ok to take while breastfeeding. I'm sure your ob knows what to give you but there are quite a few options.
Avatar n tn I have never spotted before, ever, even when I took bc years ago. My period started between the 15th and 20th of last month. I am breastfeeding so I know that periods can be irregular. So...I just don't know...
Avatar n tn i didnt go for my 3rd shot which was due at the end of october, as it was already messing up my periods while i was on it. its now mid january. and ive had a continous period for 3 months :( its awful and reall inconvieniant. im never going using this form of contreception again. and if the person above is correct, and this can last for 12 months! and the doctor is just going to tell me to "ride it out". dear god. i hope not. and there is something they/i can do.
Avatar n tn Last period was March 20, 2006. I have just begun my periods again since I stopped breastfeeding so I'm not sure how many days in a cycle I usually have. My husband and I had sex on March 31 (technically its April 1 since it was after midnight) and again later on that day. Then late April 2nd i started spotting. Has the egg implanted in my womb already and thats why im spotting? I thought it took several days for it to be implanted?
Avatar n tn I am having lower abdominal slight cramping as well. I never spot between periods nor do I ever have cramps. I usually am like clock work. So I am starting to worry. I bought a home pregnancy test and will take tomorrow morning as the test recommends. I will post tomorrow and let you know. I'm trying to stay positive as I have read that this type of spotting does occur during implantation. Sorry not much help but lets keep our fingers crossed.
Avatar f tn I did not have menstrual cycles while I was breastfeeding. However, prior to my pregnancy I have had a pretty consistent period and I have never spotted between periods. I started my first menstrual period (since breatfeeding ended) on May 9th. It only lasted about 3 days which is shorter than normal for me. However it was normal in the amount of bleeding. On May 22nd I went to the bathroom and when I wiped it was pink.
Avatar f tn I was on depo for about 2 1/2 years, I have been off of it for a year now and started to get my periods again last November, they have fairly regular with spotting in between. I entered in all my information of when is get my periods and how long, all my spotting etc in this app. Since November and they felt my periods were 48 days apart, yet I would spot fairly heavy for 2-3 days in between each 7 day period. Well my last cycle began on Feb 12 and lasted 5 days compared to usual 7.
Avatar m tn ), I would wait a couple more weeks and then test again, it is possible to be pregnant while breastfeeding.
Avatar f tn Me and my partner want to have a brother or sister for her but my periods haven't started yet so I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice or stories to tell if they have been in a similar situation to mine or has anyone gotten pregnant while breastfeeding and had no period. I love breastfeeding my little girl and want to continue till shes 1.
Avatar n tn When a woman breast-feeds, this turns off your normal menstrual cycle. As a result most people do not have periods while they are breast-feeding. When you stop breast-feeding, it may take your body a few months to start cycling regularly. What that means is that you have the normal feedback between your brain and your ovary.
Avatar n tn i wasn't too worried because some told me period is late cuz of breastfeeding. but i started spotting yesterday. spotted a few times of a brownish color. but i know implantation bleeding is supposed to start BEFORE or AROUND when you are supposed to start your period..NOT after right? so this probably isn't implantation bleeding since i'm a week late? Additional Details 0 seconds ago o sorry i forgot to mention that...i did take a at home test a week ago and it came out negative.
1923882 tn?1352253706 yup my doctor confirmed it, you get periods while bf'ing it's just never regular
175662 tn?1282217256 I went to my family doctor today, and I am becoming more and more unhappy with the woman. Not only did she tell me she thought that I had lost Nadezdha when we first found out I was pregnant... then it was discouraging me from breastfeeding because of my Fibromyalgia (she wants to put me on other drugs and I can't because of nursing)...
Avatar f tn While I have some of the symptoms, I certainly don't have the extreme pain, spotting between periods, or irregular periods.
216278 tn?1308864682 i had two or three periods before we got pregnant though, while breastfeeding - i thinkn i could feel ovulation during two of those cycles..Hoping the best for you for #2!!! I agree that trying to concieve without the stress that the first one was is nice! GOOD LUCK!
Avatar f tn Not pregnancy related but im really hating and regreting getting the depo shot , I had my babygirl March 12th so I decided best birth control for me would be the depo shot (im also breastfeeding) .. But I been spotting for more than a week now & I read that it can be for days, weeks, even months ! Are you serious? I cant take it anymore does it really happen ? ..anyone been on the shot before? When will the spotting stop? ... Any help or advice .. Thank you ladies!
Avatar f tn Yeah Breastfeeding can make your periods irregular... Maybe thats what it was....
Avatar f tn I have had Cramps for the last month now and ONCE and a while some spotting im about 8 weeks along this normal Has anyone else experienced the same thing? I called my Dr. and she said its normal but im just not use to it I guess and feel like im the only one that is going through this.....
419158 tn?1316575204 And I was talking to my mom, and she told me when she was breastfeeding she hardly got her periods either. So I thought, well breasfeeding can stop ovulation, therefor, stopping your periods. And I thought that's what was happening to me. And then went another month. My MIL noticed I wasn't asking her to pick up tampons and asked me why I wasn't asking for tampons. I told her I hadn't bleed for 3 months and it's cuz I'm breastfeeding.
Avatar f tn Unless you're in my step mums case... where she lost 6. She also Breastfeeds and normally has regular periods (When not breastfeeding) but whilt breastfeeding it too her period 5 months to even come... and then was always 7 to 9 dys off... when breastfeeding stopped her periods went back. Personally it sounds like a period! Thats just my opinion, but the best thing to do, is if you're still bleeding elevate your legs even whilst you sleep, it will help stem the flow.
Avatar n tn When i had periods i got pain but it was more of an ache and felt like there was a weight hanging off my vagina LOL It could be excess blood flow...makes sense cause women who get vulval pain experience it when they are aroused as the blood flow causes the one knows why tho.
Avatar n tn hi there, I have also been trying for baby #2 and have very irregular periods so they put me on hormone therapy just to get my periods regular. After that I still was spotting so it was hard to tell if it was implantation or just spotting, doc told me wait and take a pregnancy test. as for anxiety meds, I am on anti anx meds and while I was preg with my son they changed my meds to a c level[ranked a-d for safety durring pregnancy and nursing]med.
Avatar n tn It is common for women to stop having their periods after a little while on the Mirena IUD, especially if you had light periods prior to having the IUD. I have had my Mirena in for 14 months. I had it inserted after the birth of my second child. My periods started to come every other month, and now they have stopped completely.
184342 tn?1282592350 I don't have small children, but I do think that a healthy amount of sex is whatever works for the two of you. If you both are happy, and it isn't causing either of you stress, then its normal. DH and I go through "hot and cold" periods. Often, if one or both of us are stressed about something, or maybe extra tired from work or whatever, more time that normal for us can go by between. I used to worry about it...thought maybe we were abnormal.
Avatar n tn That is the only time I know of for them to prescribe that type of Birth control pill. If you are breastfeeding you most likely wouldn't be getting your periods this soon anyway and it may just be the breakthrough bleeding caused by the pill but if it is a lot and you can feel it coming out I would call your doctor it should not be that heavy. I also took the progesterone only pills for almost a year and I did not have any problems.
734635 tn?1231817643 i've had the mirena iud for almost 4 months now. i've gained no weight whatsoever, not pregnant and i'm still having the irregular spotting and bleeding but i knew i was in for that for 6-12 months and no cramps. did your doctors go over the side affects with you when you asked about the mirena? my ob and i had been discussing my b/c options since i was aprox. 24-25 weeks pregnant with my twins.
145992 tn?1341348674 I have had the Cooper IUD now for 8 months and my periods are still crazy 2 times a montha dn spotting in between, befor the IUD my period would last for 3 days no cramps, now 8 days and cramps, and mood swing, i seem to be more bitchy and parrinoid, ooh and my hair has has fallen out alot....
363110 tn?1340924019 DS is almost 7 weeks old now. We've decided to stick w/condoms, at least while I am breastfeeding. BCPs and the like often interfere w/breastfeeding & milk supply even when they claim not to. My body has been through enough in the past year! lol.... DH is fine with it. It works for us; we used them for a year between the time I stopped BCP and when we started ttc. After awhile it's just not a big deal and you learn to forget that it's even there.
Avatar n tn My periods are usually like clock work;every month between the 10th-12. Last period was 06/11/08 it was a normal period. July--no period, no sweat cause every woman will skip at least one period in her life for one reason or another other than pregnancy. Took a pregnancy test just to be on the safe side and it was negative. August 2nd and 3rd--went to the bathroom and found light brown sticky mucus in my panties.Read flag!!!!!! Took another pregnancy test......once again negative.
