hernia-surgery

Avatar m tn bad news is it will not fix itself so surgery is needed almost all the time, good news is; the surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure without hospital stay depending on recovery time and its sorta cheap depending on what you would call cheap, i had mine done overseas 18 years ago and i stayed in the hospital for two days because i had a tonsil infection (unrelated to the surgery) all for around $1200, nowadays a good urologist with laparoscopic surgery will get it done as an outpatient
Avatar m tn I am 28 years old with what is likely a sports hernia. There is no noticeable bulge or hernia, and the pain has become unbearable and will confine me to a bed for a week or two at a time. The pain originally manifested in my testicles, but recently I feel pressure in my groin area, resulting in a pinched feeling in my femoral nerves. I've consulted both Dr. Krischkan in Ohio and Dr. Petersen in Nevada, and both do a modified Shouldice (i.e., 2 layers vs. the traditional 4). Dr.
Avatar n tn Hi aliparkone, If she has undergone a laparoscopic surgery, the recovery time is faster. She can go home in 2-3 days. She might have pain at the surgery site for which pain killers can be taken.Generally a semi-solid diet is presribed from the 2nd or 3rd day during the first week. If the semi-solid diet is tolerated well, then other foods can be slowly introduced. This usually takes 2-3 weeks.Complete recovery takes 2-3 weeks.
Avatar m tn My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar n tn There are a lot of factors that will determine recovery time such as how physically fit you are before surgery, any complications, and any other medical conditions you may have. You'll need at least two weeks and even then you shouldn't go full-bore back into your full pre-op activities if you're typically very physically active. Most GB surgeries are done laparascopically these days, which can be deceiving because you only have three or four small wounds that are visible.
Avatar n tn This can be repaired through surgery. Recovery time varies depending on the size of the hernia, the technique used, age and presence of underlying medical condition. However, a hernia can recur up to several years after repair. I hope this helps. Avatar f tn I saw an orthopedic surgeon who didn’t think my symptoms matched a labrum tear but probably sports hernia. I had another MRI that showed I did not have sports hernia. I also had a scrotum ultrasound that showed nothing wrong with testicles. My question is, can a hip labrum tear cause sharp pain when the muscles are firing for ejaculation? My ortho didn’t think so but after the clean sports hernia mri we are discussing possible labrum surgery.
329994 tn?1301663248 I tried to eat solid food and that has not set well on my stomach, very nauseous, so I am gone back to drinking Boost, eating soup, soft foods and that sets better on my stomach, but does not produce a bowel movement. Is this normal after surgery and will it just take more time. I also have a hiatel hernia and take Prilosec 20mg/day. Thank you for any help.
Avatar f tn I am an law enforcement officer and the doctor said I could resume full unrestricted duty in a week. I have been doing research on the procedure and it seems the average recovery time is about two weeks but people are still not able to lift items or do strenuous activities. My concern is my equipment which weighs about 12lbs around my waist and my vest. I am also concerned about my ability to engage in physical activity if I have to defend myself.
Avatar f tn This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? First, what is a recommend timeframe to resume daily activities (I.e.driving,etc.). My tentative return tobwork dare isn't until July. And...
Avatar f tn I am quite fit and physically healthy (eat well, swim at least once a week) so I am going to have the surgery in the summer holidays this year and was wondering what the average recovery time was (preferably for someone like me or your own personal experiances) also when are you allowed to do sports again, how long you stay in hospital and if you are allowed to fly afterwards.

433485 tn?1321813390 I have not had the operation, and I looked to see if we had a forum for folks with hernias, but, it looks like we don't. I would do a google search on umbilical hernias and surgery, you should hopefully be able to find something that will be helpful. Sorry that I can not help you more.
478868 tn?1209031705 Hi Gail, As a nurse in the recovery room, I see incisional hernias all the time. The hernia develops from a weakness in the wall of the muscle that was cut for your original surgery. Alot of times if it is bothersome or large enough, they will take you back to surgery, may place some mesh against the muscle to reinforce it and it can be day surgery. Most can do it laparoscopically, so less recovery time in the hospital.
Avatar f tn The patient may have to use specially designed corsets and braces for some time. These help the hernia to fall back into place. The symptoms subside and the person is fit to resume normal life. He/she may have to avoid high impact and force sports for life, but other than this can lead a normal life/dance (for fun), play sports casually, run, jog, cycle, swim etc. Sometimes, despite all treatments the disc does not fall back in place. A surgery may then be required. Take care!
2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.
454221 tn?1259445739 The risk of blood clots exits, but with an experienced surgeon, use of intermittent calf compression boots at surgery, relatively short operative time, and early ambulation, I have not seen this complication in over twenty years. Occasional seromas and minor wound healing issues are more common. Recovery time is usually about two weeks.
Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, A bit of background...I have a 7-8cm cyst on my left ovary. CA125 of 10, ultrasound shows no sign of a malignancy, so they are not too concerned about that. Dr. I was seeing wasn't confident in doing a cyst this size laparoscopically so he referred me to another Dr who is apparently an "expert" in removing large cysts like this by "bagging" it and removing it that way through the tiny incision instead of having open surgery.
1570782 tn?1296689507 Hey Everyone! I'm new to this whole forum thing, but I thought I'd give it a try. I was just wondering for those of you who've had surgery, how long your recovery has been? I just recently had the surgery and I'm having a hard time dealing with the after math. I am here to find some friends to talk to who are going through the same thing as me. Please feel free to talk with me anytime.
Avatar f tn I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?
Avatar n tn 2. What can I do to prepare before and after the surgery to help witht the recovery process. 3. May I still be excercising such as 1 hr. walks and situps/crunches before the surgery? and 4. Are there any special bands or wraps such as a girdle to help keep my organs in and my body in shape?
1257808 tn?1322762215 I had an inguinal hernia. Got out of surgery around 14 days ago. I had an open mesh repair. I have documented my surgery and recovery here: www.myhernia.co.
