Avatar m tn A number of techniques are available for achieving fluency which are prolonged speech techniques, airflow therapies, rhythmic speech, biofeedback methods, vocal control, masking, anxiety reduction, attitudinal therapy and trial therapy. Speech therapy involves learning new speech techniques (such as speaking syllable-by-syllable) and modifying the present ways of speaking (such as reducing the rate of speech).
Avatar n tn Do you live in the U.S.? Call your pediatrician and ask for a referral to your state's Birth to 3 program. There is free speech therapy and other therapies available. The evaluation is free and any therapy fee is based on your income -- most people are free. I think my copay was $6 per hour therapy session. Doesn't matter if it's autism or something else...
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor about possible therapies for your son.
Avatar f tn For most stroke patients, the rehabilitation process includes nursing, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), therapeutic recreation (TR) and speech therapy (or speech language therapy, SLP). OT involves exercise and training to help the stroke patient relearn everyday activities, sometimes called the Activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating and drinking, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting.
Avatar n tn Potty training has become quite complex in this day and age and made more challenging if a child has certain delays. Given that your daugher has speech delays (Is she in speech therapy) and sensory issues (she would benefit from Occupational Therapy), the potty training is made even more difficult. It sounds like you have tried many positive things--here's a few more: Create a hug basket of "rewards" that sits in a basket near the designated potty.
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Avatar m tn After respiration, circulation and cardiovascular function have been stabilized, either high dose intravenous immunoglobulins or plasmapheresis used in combination is better than each alone. Therapy is ineffective after 2 weeks from when the first motor symptoms appear. Risk associated with immunoglobulins are hepatitis, renal failure after 5 days of therapy.

Avatar f tn Hello My son has recently started Kindergarten and seems to be more sensitive to sounds He was diagnosed PDD-NOS a year ago, school does not recognize a diagnosis and has him under "developmental delay" category since he is very "borderline" and while some specialists see ASD in him, others do not. He does have IEP, and teacher's assistant helping him through transition period.
Avatar m tn Yes to Spongeboba's suggestion that you should definately try to get your sister physical therapy and speech therapy. I don't know with the paralysis whether she is eligible for the PT, but she is talking and could certainly use the speech therapy. I had aphasia after my carotid artery dissection stroke which means I was speaking jibberish (sp?) and hardly able to speak and I also had much difficulty understanding what other people were saying to me.
Avatar f tn Firstly, I think you need to do is to get him assessed by at least an ear, nose and throat specialist, solutions differ greatly depending on the causation, surgery, botox, therapy, skill set training etc will only benefit him if the underlying cause is being taken into account. IF he has Oromotor dysfunction, that is a dysfunction of the muscles that control the mouth.
972758 tn?1253099564 If not, please contact your school system and have her assessed to get into speech, occupational, and possibly physical therapy ASAP (some districts offer developmental preschool), and they can possibly tell you if there is a specialist doctor who can do an assessment for autism. Some schools make their own diagnosis. You don't need a diagnosis to get the therapy, though.
Avatar f tn My sister had a health visitor come to see her but she wasn’t able to give many answers. She has been referred to speech therapy now. But we were warned that things like proper discipline or potty training are useless until my niece can speak and understand words. She’s also still drinking from a baby bottle and will only really eat soft food. But as we were warned it will be very hard to change these things as we can’t explain things to her.
Avatar n tn I also imediately put him on the GFCF diet and we were strict for an entire year because he jumped in ability so dramatically in the first month- fully potty trained and withing 6 months dropped his repeditive behaviors (not hand flapping- he always had his hand in his mout flicking the back of his bottom teeth). We also got him right into speech therapy but not OT and PT because the school said he didn't need it.
195469 tn?1388322888 Does anyone know what is involved with "gait" training? I will be going to a physical therapy center to have this done and wonder what it entails. Probably should ask the center, but I knew I would get better answers from someone that knows about it or has been through it themselves.
Avatar f tn My 4 year old granddaughter has obvious speech problems. It is very hard to understand her. Her speech patterns have also changed. She used to call her mother "Mama-ee" and now she calls her "Mahee". She cannot pronounce her own name, Meaghan. I want my daughter to get her a hearing test and she says she does not think she has a hearing problem.

Avatar n tn The best way to proceed would be to arrange a comprehensive developmental evaluation, including cognitive, social, emotional, fine and gross motor. Speech/Language and Occupational Therapy (particulally to address sensory integration problems) should be included in the evaluation.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn He turned 2 in October. Since then, we have him in speech 3x week (1 hr session). Occupational therapy 1x week, and Applied Behavioral Analysis 15 hours a week. He is on the GFCF diet, takes supplements, vit b12 injections etc.. We have run labs on him as well. Currently, he still runs in circles flapping his hands, climbs constantly on our table and chairs, has to close one door in house, turn on a certain light and does other non-typical behaviors. Do these kids improve?
Avatar m tn If you are really concerned you can ask your pediatrician for a referal for autism testing. You can also contact your school district. Is he getting speech therapy from the school district?
