She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.

Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Avatar f tn My 3 yr old started speech therapy as soon as he turned 2. It was great teaching techniques for us parents and older sister too. So when we play at home, we repeat and put into practice what we learned. Repeating over and over, is a must and eventually he will get it. Don't give in to what he wants until you say the name 3-4 times minimum and you see him making an effort to repeat it or sign it to you if you do.signing. Sign language dvds are awesome.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone. This is a follow-up on my mother's progress. Therapy with the speech pathologist helped a great deal. She learned new techniques for swallowing effectively and over time she has been able to strengthen her throat muscles. Initially, she didn't like the idea of going to therapy but came around as she saw how she benefited from it. She still doesn't have the same appetite prior to stroke.

The evaluation is free and any therapy fee is based on your income -- most people are free. I think my copay was $6 per hour therapy session. Doesn't matter if it's autism or something else...

1955760 tn?1346483744 VCD mimics asthma, but is treated with speech therapy and breathing techniques. There is a video online that demonstrates one breathing technique. Look it up and try it. See if using that technique reduces your symptoms enough that you don't need the inhaler as often. When my asthma first worsened, I was also diagnosed with VCD. Doint the breathing exercise did help keep my calm during an asthma attack and sometimes stopped my symptoms.

Our daughter with learning difficulties is very visual, learns visually. He has never had really good speech, but lately it has gotten to the point that 95% of the time no one (including myself) can understand him. when he is angry or up set, the only way that he communicates is through physical aggression. He will not play with other children, but clear away from them.

I am picking up my afo next week - maybe we can compare notes. Mine is non-hinged, so I doubt i can sleep in it. I am getting it to stabiize my foot while my foot stress fracture heals. Do you happen to have any of those black boots they often give for foot injuries?

She was due to be discharged from the hospital to home last night with her granddaughter moving into her home to take care of her. (We live 2+ hours away). She will need 24 hr care. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Some concerns-- swallowing is very compromised but they determined via swallowing test that she can swallow if placed in a very upright position.
